Looking very nice Martin. Beautifully painted and based figures. Did you see that History Hit chanel had a special on Boudicca a few weeks back? Thought might be of interest. Always thought it would be cool to do this as the gauls/romans from Asterix. Now 3d printing is a thing... uh oh... 😂😂😂
Love this series of videos! Great work with the bases and the painting, everything looks amazing! What sizes of bases do you use on the various units please? Finding the ones supplied in the box a bit small and cramped.
Thanks, glad you like the project, I have an update to do for it as I have finished a few more units 👍 the bases are all from Big Red Bat, I put the Roman infantry and Gallic skirmishers on FK&P6b and the cavalry and Warband infantry are on FK&P6. Hope that helps 👍 bigredbatshop.co.uk/collections/all/bases
@@7thson726 It is not as bad as it was back in the days with the other very large company....we called it "failcast" :). And your videos are all very well done....
I have that same Vercingetorix on a command base and it’s perhaps one of my favourite minis and little dioramas I’ve done. I look forward to seeing what you do with it! This whole army is turning out splendidly.
I hope you were careful with the druids mould lines....... lol Getting the dogs was a good call, as you say for a skirmish unit, or command base or even stick a good boy in a unit
my favorite two pictures that are burned in my memory are a close up of Slane raging and the Dwarf at the end being cheeky. Such good Illustrations @@7thson726
Looking great, if I was going to expand the force I would probably add Chariots or Cavalry. If you were going down the chariot route I would highly recommend Victrix chariots.
Glad you are all on the mend and awesome looking force. How about some captured Roman scorpios? Lookingvfoeward tonseeing what you do with the War Dogs.
Looking foward to the first battle. I got the ancients bug last month from watching your videos last month and accidentally ordered a Greek Victrix army. 😂
Awesome video Martin! I've just started looking into historical war-gaming, particularly Hail Caesar with war of the roses. Do you know the best way to find a local gaming group? I'm based in Suffolk! Thanks and really excited to see the project progress further!
Hello mate, thanks for checking out the video, I think you commented on the PCP but just in case it wasn't you there is a good club in Bury St Edmunds and also check out 4TK in Colchester 👍
Haha I have Cavalry, they were in the first update, ok probably should have mentioned that again 🤔😅 I don't mind painting cavalry so long as it isn't Napoleonic 😁
@@7thson726 Hmm, . . must've missed that one. I'll have to go back & look. So, ya don't like Napoleonic cavalry. Horses are horses so it must be the uniformity of the uniforms. IE you don't get to have "carte blanche" regards the outfits of the riders. A hangover from decades of fantasy gaming no doubt. It's okay, you'll grow out of it eventually. Hugs from Texas.
These look amazing sir, I'm very tempted to do some Romans however my pile of opportunities is too large. Like you I've had a month of sickness so not much has been done here in the tack room.
Another fantastic video Martin. Love your content. Which of the Big Red Bat bases have you used for the Gallic warriors? Could you add some cavalry perhaps?
These are absolutely beautifully painted models on fantastic bases. They look simply stunning. To be picky, I think the woad should be a bit more turquoise - use some of the dye if you don’t believe me! Also, Tacitus says the druids had white robes and golden sickles, but a) you can’t trust Roman writers and b) your figures, your choice!
Haha thanks very much. The woad colours can vary drastically from the tests I've seen, almost to the point it's nearly black it's so dark. I think the lighter stuff looks better so a turquoise could be fun to try 😁👍the whole thing with this project is to have it done quickly but that does leave some room for experimenting 👍
@@Swindondruid2 that's really cool, for dye? We had some experimental archaeology on one of our sites as we had late Saxon dyeing pits, that's where I had seen the dark stuff, though nothing went according to plan on that project, though that's a long story 😅
The Gallic Army is coming along nicely Martin, have you chosen a tribe to base them upon? Your command bases are fabulous, I love the Druid base, a favourite of mine also. I converted mine removing the Serps and adding a sword and shield. The second command is very nice also. I find the warlord figures need to be pre placed to fit properly. Love your idea of the elevated figures I will add that to my basing. I added the war dogs to command bases and cavalry bases, they really add some extra to the base. Another 100 odd warriors I think, some naked perhaps. No chariots unless you are planning on Normandy plains tribes Cheers Matt
Cheers, thanks very much 👍 these aren't really based on anything, just generic at the moment. If I want to add in some tribe specific stuff then I can later but for now I think I'll keep it simple. Got my eyes on another starter set and definitely some cavalry 👍
Come on Gauls 😋! I have a question about basing. Unfortunately, after I'm done with basing (which I'm using your tips for :) ), the miniatures seem to be a bit higher than the ground due to their own bases they are on? Am I doing something wrong or is it just a case of not using a base and put the miniature straight on the movement tray?
Thanks very much 👍 glad you're finding the videos useful. I know exactly what you mean, I sometimes either build up the glue or basing paste around the bases to hide them. You can cut them off but that can be a bit fiddly sometimes
Personally I prefer the Druid rules from the Germania book , which allows the druid to attach itself to a unit , and shares the fate of it , but a Roman unit charging it has to take a H to H break test adding 2 to the roll a "Hold your ground " result allows the unit to charge normally , now, Druids add up to 3 Dice , to a British H to H combat , just like a Division commander , and after each combat a roll is done as if , for a commander, to see if he is wounded or killed , using the rules for commanders
`War dogs , there are rules for there inclusion , they were never put in the book , but were published on the "Old" HC forum , before it was hacked , and they were lost , I did have the foresight to download them , if you or any body wants them , reply to this post and i will put them up , I use my "War dogs " a lot
Ah, so, I showed them briefly in the first update, Warlord sent me a unit of Cavalry for the Romans and the Gauls so I will be doing those after the Romans are done 😁👍 probably should have mentioned that again haha
If I had the choice I would choose a unit of naked gallic warriors from Victrix and maybe gallic chariots also from Victrix, by the way they are also much nicer.
I have thought about chariots for the Caesar's Invasion of Britain so I dare say it will happen at some point 🤔 Each to their own, I've painted up quite a lot of the Gallic Warriors sets from Victrix previously and sold them.
Some of the nicest Gauls out there are the Aventine ones. Really shouldn't have naked warriors during the Gallic Wars, they were last mentioned in Asia Minor over a hundred years earlier. More appropriate for the Punic Wars.
