The move to latches to hold the vat down is a welcome change, making it easier to pull/peel up and off the vat if you have a FEP puncture and resin cured between the screen and fep.
Unironically just bought a full GKTWO kit off Marketplace and got home with it the same day as your live stream reveal. LOL.

Great video! I'm new to resin printing and I would need to set this up in my garage. I live in Arizona and the garage will get upwards of 45C. Is that an issue for a printer like this? Also, are the wash and cure add-ons worth having? I thought I detected a little hesitation in your video regarding those.
This has got me looking at the GK2 again. Honestly, the two things keeping me from getting a GK2 in a couple months are the lack of an exposure range finding tool, and the reports of spotty customer service.
As awesome as the GK3 looks, it's way bigger than I need at a price I won't be able to afford for years.
Any information about Release Date?
Website still states oct 5th for US and oct 10th for EU, already significantly later then around sep 20th when the early bird offer started.

One concern I have is that when you hang the build plate on the side of the printer (to let it drip) you can't close the lid and therefore you risk exposing resin in the VAT to sunlight (I got my printers in the attic with a couple of windows around, the sunlight doesn't hit the printers directly but scattered light could be an issue).

Guys I’m so torn! I had the heygears ultracraft reflex in my basket and just seen this! I know the gk two is awesome so I’ve no doubt this is too and a larger print volume than the heygears printer! Any recommendations on what I should go for? Heygears is super appealing to me as a newbie to the hobby in that it basically does everything for you but I am not lazy and don’t mind those things so this gk three is also appealing! Love your videos btw dude you’re the reason I’m even interested in resin printing 😅 x

you need to decide what you want. a big printer or an easy to use printer. Neither does the other's job.
Heygears is not big
Uniformation is easier than most resin printers, but not plug and play nor as detailed as Heygears.

Sadly, on a personal level this machine is way to big to fit in my apartment. However, living in the Midwest, the heater function is a blessing regardless what people say.

Being a casual (rarely use) Phrozen mighty 8k user, this seems like a much improved and better option. The build plate not being messy. The refills. The comparable print quality for the larger build size. The heating. It's all around the 3d printer a first time printer would want for ease of use.
However, there is one thing i'd really like to see in this. Which is some kind of attatchment that is either native to, or 3d printable and attachable to the air vents for vent systems with tubing. To make ventilating out a window much easier. Apart from the resin being physically toxic, the fumes are easily a worse issue when it comes to health and safety. Always looking for the simplest way to vent.
Will your critical review be up before the early backer period is over? Id like to hear an opinion on how it compares to direct competitors in its size range(ie the Anycubic M3 Max, Phrozen Mega 8k, Elegoo Jupiter). Like you said people wont likely be printing small stuff on here so the pixel density doesnt particularly excite me.
It’s better than those imo. It has more gem features and higher quality.
My critical review will most likely be the same video again but saying the light above the plate is daft because it doesn’t light the print but from behind it.
That’s about it. I’m waiting on a retail model

@@petercallison5765 I'm sure you did. As for me, I made the mistake of ordering the S4U through a local reseller instead of Elegoo's web site. Not only the EU (where I live) was served after the US market (which received the machines in advance) despite the common initial ETA of June 24, Elegoo also ghosted all these resellers and gave the printers only to the customers who bought them directly through their web site, with a 2-month discrepancy (to which you have to add the time taken by sea transport on container ships to the EU, which takes longer than to the US thanks to the war in the Red Sea). I guess that the EU customers who buy Elegoo's products at their local reseller are considered as subcustomers.

Auto leveling that works 100% of the time? My DWS XFAB had this 7 years ago.
Multiple exposure tests? SL1 did that like 5 or 6 years ago.
Is it better to get the wash for the gk2 as it is better then the gk3 one?
Also, will the carbon filter thing match the one in the gk3, so we can just buy the ones for the gk2 and that will fit in the gk3?
Not gonna lie, I've been sceptical about feeling the need to "upgrade" from the GKtwo to the GK3 Ultra. As you say, it's just "the same quality, but bigger, and with a bit more quality of life"
But I'll be damned if I'm not feeling a serious itch right now. This is a titan of a printer and, well, printing a titan on this would be pretty damn dope.

Just orderd using your code to get free ACF - does the printer come with 1 sheet nFEP installed and another spare in the pack? Package contents state 2 nFEP sheets. I also ordered a spare vat... it also states the vat option contains 2 vats... not sure if this is correct. The standard package includes 2 resins, but doesn't allow you to choose which ones - is there a way to specify? Awesome video BTW and I am selling my Mega 8KS to get this. I'm not a fan of the Mega 8KS build plate with the holes and lack of WiFi is a pain.
it cover 3 pieces extra acf films, but the printer itself will cover nfep films in the package.
Watched this. Bought one at $999.. great overview and ignore the compulsive tools that spend their lifes searching for a detail to try and correct someone. Was 42C at my work the other day.

I actually do t share settings on principle. I encourage people to learn how to dial in their printers.
Done!, and made sure I used the "Ross Link". Thanks to the comments here I got my free NFEP. I ended up still paying $1399 due to me getting giddy on parts and supplies. :)
Am currently contemplating between the gk2, gk3 and the Saturn 4 ultra for my first printer. It will be in my garage so I think the heated vat from the uniformations would be good, not sure if it’s worth getting the 3 over the 2

@@pichu1908 I ended up ordering the gktwo for the heated vat function, along with the uniformation ultra sonic cleaner, and then went with the anycubic wash and cure 2.0 for the curing station
Im a little confused by Uniformation I asked there online chat "Are you selling empty bottles & replacement rubber caps for people to use their own resin for the GK3 Ultra" and they replied "Yes, we sell empty bottles." Technical Supports email replied with "We have no plans to sell empty resin bottles for the time being. When customers buy our printers now, we will give them an empty resin bottle, which can be reused about ten times. In addition, the power pump of the automatic feeding is not powerful, and in order not to affect the printing, the resin is extracted slowly. It may be a better choice to pour the appropriate amount of resin directly into the resin tray before starting printing." so do they or dont they?.
I've just sent this comment to my marketing contact and asked "Will you be selling empty resin bottles or not? if so when. as many people are getting upset that you do not already sell them"
@@FauxHammer have you had any luck with your marketing contact to find out about the empty resin bottles? as i'm seriously considering canceling my order.
One of the biggest selling points of this printer is the option to get an empty cartridges to fill with resin of your choice but I don’t see that specified anywhere on the listing, and no empty cartridges available for sale yet. I’m hesitant to preorder it without that reassurance.

Thanks Fauxhammer for the preview video. Used your affiliate links to purchase and to get the nfep film (which worked). Dont know why resin didnt work out for me. Do you know what find of free resin it applicable? Waterbased, abs, or regular? I tried all by adding to cart, but didnt work. How often does uniformation give out a response? I did an impulse buy with the whole package (wash and cure machine included) but didnt see your cure machine review until today and wanted to immediately change my order to order only the printer instead. So far its been a day they have reapond to me thru email and im a few hours away from the super early bird special gone if they dont teapond to me in time.
Just read your most commented post. "2x standard resin" will do that once uniformation is able to correct and or change my order.
I love it! I want these updates in a GK2 Ultra and what and if is possible as an update kit for the GK2. Especially the new z-axis. Make it happen!

@@FauxHammer true that BUT the GK2 should be partly updateble. At least the have the 12k upgrade kit. Maybe a similar kit with shared parts of an „GK2 Ultra“ like an improved vat, 20um AFC screen and dual linear rail module could be possible.
I mean heck, the GK2 is so easy to maintain and repair (compared to Anycubic and Elegoo machines). Why not? Uniformation appears to be very customer oriented. At least from the nice support chats I had with them :)

What is the speed of this printer compared to M7 pro & M5s? Thank you for your time.
The Saturn 4 Ultra with the tilting vat will be the fastest. The M7 and M5s will be a lot faster than the GK3. The speed of the GK (and all printers) will depend on the type of FEP used. Now that a large 16k lcd is available you can expect all the other brands to use this within a couple months. I would have grabbed the GK3 but I can't scrape together the money in 2 days so now I am looking forward to a 13" tilt tray version from Elegoo.
No gap on the cover for mine, well, 1-2mm at worst. They confirmed me it will be PFA for the release. I'm from Lychee team, the printer is already available in our slicer, minus network for now.

@@FauxHammer a little bit later. We released today Lychee slicer 6.2 with a new slice engine, great for "16k" printers, and hopefully soon the release of something new. The whole team is at 1000% at the moment, then we will release that as soon as possible. I want myself to use the network capabilities 🤣 And I'm aligned with your feedback about the GK3 Ultra. Great printer they did! I hope to release my own video soon!

15:30 Thanks to this clever pressurized system, wouldn't such a shallow amount of resin in the vat (compared to the thick amount on other printers) allow for tuning the TSMC with a shorter lift distance and faster lift & retract speeds, especially when using an ACF film? I have the intuitive feeling that the limited default print speed can be improved that way. Of course, curing time will not improve.
I think you’re expecting a bit too much from this honestly. It’s a basic printer. Just designed well
I ordered the GK3 (using your link) and the QIDI Plus4. I am concerned about fumes in the print area I am building in my basement. I was planning on printing an adapter for the back of the GK3 to fit into the carbon filter spot and then venting it out a 4" exhaust hose using a small inline fan to a vent in my wall to outside. My concern: Will venting it this way cause the interior of the GK3 to cool, thus causing heating and printing issues? Would appreciate any input you might have since you have had a ton more experience than myself. Thanks!!
If you pull air out, yes it will extract heat too, it will pull air in from your room through all the small gaps around the printer. But the heater, heats from below the LCD. so the first part of the chamber to be heated is the resin at the bottom of the vat. which is the part you want heated the most.
So it should be ok.
For the Wash and Cure station - if you have an open comms channel to the manufacturer, can you find out if it could be "stacked"? E.g., put the wash station on a stand above the tanks, so that it takes up less surface area? I can't see why it wouldn't be able to since it's using pumps, unless the pumps are really underpowered.
I suspect it is not powerful enough to pull up. and you'd also need your own tubes. dunno until i get a release version, this version is just a prototype

with a vat that big, does that reduce the usable amount of resin per bottle significantly?
not sure what you mean reduce. you need more resin in the vat to cover the area, but after that, you consume the same amount as you normally would to print whatever you print
Thanks for the video - looks like some great bells and whistles. I'm wondering if you can us IPA in the wash station? The discount prices are awesome but even the retail price isn't that bad if you are wanting a large build area resin printer.
sorry, yes you can use IPA. I dunno why I said water, probanly becasue I use water washable resin

My one issue will absolutely be space. Not necessarily because of the printer itself, but the wash station is absolutely mental.
(It also seems to take 30!!! Liters of IPA, that's... a jug and a half to say the least)

I think the pixel size makes this a good printer for small finely detailed prints. The bed size is irrelevant then it comes to scaling down but you have the advantage of a large bed and build volume by resin printer standards for scaling up. This would be an amazing printer for printing a large number of highly detailed minis. On the subject of ACF film, you might as well use an FDM printer if you're going to get the equivalent of vertical layer lines.

@@FauxHammer I think a company calling slightly more than 15,000 pixels 16,000 is even more disingenuous than companies using that metric to refer to resolution in the first place.
So basically if you want the GK2, this one is not really an alternative of quality (especially considering it costs twice as much), it is more if you want to print bigger things and have the little upgrades like the integrated resin dispenser and whatnot.

Awesome, this would finally be good enough to print stuff like model kits of spaceships and the like (Star Trek saucer sections can get pretty big and a pain in the ass to clean up if you print them in sections).

due to the resin pump on long prints is it likely to be a problem with heavily pigmented resins if sat. I regularly print large items that take over 18 hours to print.
How so? Do you mean that the pigment will settle at the bottom ?
@@FauxHammer yes as the pump will push the heavily laden pigment into the vat as it settles on the bottom of the refill bottle, leaving the top of the bottle with little to no pigment unless you are present to shake the bottle every so often.
Uniformation have now replied saying "it's not recommended to remove and shake the resin refill bottles while the printer is printing, as it may disrupt the printing process. "
One thing I don’t get. You said more functions will be available, UI is still in the making etc.. why companies do the rush releases? And then we received unfinished product with ‘more features coming soon’ that I hate in modern days
Because it's a pre-order. Actual shipping of the production units is estimated to be in september. Maybe these features will be finished then (I hope).
They aren’t rushing it, as I said in the beginning. Mine is A prototype. They nailed the hardware down because that can’t be easily changed after. The software can.
But this question goes to every software industry. Look at phone apps and videogames. It used to bed you got what was on the disc. Now you get update after update.
Other companies are but better at hiding it Uniformation are being open about it
If I could afford it, I'd buy in a heartbeat. Even with the kinks it looks like it will be a crazy good printer. I'm not into miniatures(even though I'm subed) and the larger volume would be great. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford it.

Ended up going with another printer because this was going to be available till the end of next month and I need a large format resin printer way before that.

Great video but we print larger models like 1/4 to 1/3 scale so at 16mm an hour it would take us 4 weeks of around the clock printing to finish one model. My friend keeps trying to sell me his Galaxy larer print because it's to slow at 60mm with the upgraded laser module!
If you print just miniatures then yer it might be useful but on larger models it doesn't matter if they are printed at 4k or 8k..
That early bird price is killer, but so is my wife's control of our budgets 😆💵, so "not at this time ...". However, UNIFormation have hit a grand slam home run with the GKThree Ultra!
What's with the use of the blow torch (to remove air bubbles in the resin)? I've not seen this before in relation to 3D printing - is this an issue with this printer?

Is it because you had a early prototype of the washing station, that you've not been able to make it work or will all user be affected by this?
When Uniformation sais echosystem to describe printer>wash>cure, do they mean in the same sense as HeyGears where washing and curing times are automatically set based on the model you've printed?
Yeah mine is just a prototype and I could not work out what the different functions do and it leaked all over my desk and killed a studio light becasue I pressed a wrong button by guessing through it.
It'll do what the instructions say on launch, I have no instructions.

$1800 with wash and cure, not knowing how well they even work, is a bit to much, especially concidering it'll be my first printer.

@@FauxHammer I mean I don't think there really is a comparable printer offered right now when it comes to features, unless you count ad-dons & modifications or go higher to something like HeyGears' UltraCraft.
But yes, just a lower price overall to enter a similar price range to others like Elegoo's Mars/Saturn lineups which are half or a third of the price of the GK2/3
Presumably a smaller printer entails lower production costs which leads to a lower price.
Alright I bit the bullet after all this time and I'm replacing my Mars 2 pro. The resin code work with 2 regular resin bottles for those wondering why it doesn't work.
The size, resolution, resin feeding system and the build plate are what convinced me but having the USB port and power button at the front was equally important. seriously, how is it so hard for other companies to do that? I'm a bit bummed about the lack of tilting vat but I can wait until the next generational leap to switch.

The biggest shop in austria (3djake) also doesnt have uniformation resin (but has the gk two printer and stuff). do they have a problem geting the resin out of china? do you know anything about it?
not that I know of? perhaps that locale has specific restrictions and since the resin isn't "out" yet, they have not started the Approval process to allow it to be shipped in :(

Ok, it STILL needs a way to vent the entire unit of any VOCs. That looping carbon filter isn’t doing a thing. It’s just oumping VOCs back into the chamber. Please get them to make an adapter for a fan to slot into that back filter hole.
I preferred the ultrasonic cleaning, it's much much better than wash stations.
The new one isn't ultrasonic?

Impellers or magnetic stirrers are frankly quite bad, I'd rather manually shake the model, it is quicker and cleans better... and free.
I love to use my ultrasonic cleaner because it leaves no residues even in thougher spots, and it is great with hollow models.

The Ultrasonic cleaning station is low-powered and unheated and also seals with a metal lid or the build plate itself.
I'm assuming that they couldn't get a proper license to say their Ultrasonic was safe with IPA in an industrial setting (even if it is safe "enough" at your own risk).
Impellers do suck compared to Ultrasonic solutions, however, it's not all bad.
The 3-stage process is hopefully their attempt at making an impeller cleaning process that works as well as a low-powered Ultrasonic.

What I ask myself most is whether the GKtow also gets a software update with an exposure test, better wireless integration in Chitubox & Lychee and the possibility of adjusting the slicer file settings in the printer's UI?

something thats disappointing is that the build volume is effectively 280mm in height if you want to use the wash3 ultra which has cleaning volume of 300*165*H280mm. I suspect that 2cm is lost due to the thickness of the build plate, which is why i dont know why they didnt just give the whole machine 2cm extra depth to accommodate for it, as I expect to have projects that will simultaneously use both the 30cm width and 30cm height of the printer. Still, I have purchased the entire combo and will just have to work around it.
hmm, didn't realise that... good spot! I've just asked them why this is... You can out put the larger parts in the basket. but the basket doesnt cover the full volume either, only half.
@@FauxHammer might just put the parts straight into the vat without the basket as the basket still limits it to 290mm.
also can you please suggest to them to increase the max bake time to something like 30mins - 1hr for the cure station? Some resins need baking for various reasons (e.g. biocompatibility) and 15 mins isn't enough. Even better if the max bake temp can be increased to 60C or even 70C (assuming that it's not a hardware limitation). I can just get a cheap desktop oven for it but if I'm gonna pay $280USD for a cure station I'd want to make the most of it.
Furthermore, can the cure station be set to bake only (without curing afterwards)? As some resins like post-baking as well.

I really enjoyed this video, i would just like to ask how much the resin smells. If i get this printer, then it will likely be put next to my other FDM printers in my garage. I probably wouldn't mind the smell of the resin but other members of my family probably would. How much does the resin smell? I don't have any experience with resin so you'll have to dumb it down a lot, sorry. Really, I'm just looking for a resin printer that doesnt smell. Thx.
i didn;t us etheir resin. but the printer has a carbon filter to stop the smells anyway
@@FauxHammer Does that cut out like 100% of the smell, because ik some 'carbon filters' especially in 3d printers do not work at all, or barey work.
@@AMakBTYT it;s hard to guesstimate mate, i don;t notice a smell at all. as far as filters go, it;s pretty solid and large. but how sensative you are plays a big part, as does how smelly the resin actually is.

How would this handle Warhammer sized miniatures compares to the gktwo with a 12k screen? I kinda want a gkthree none ultra because I like the resin pump features. Only thing missing is a tilt function and this would be the perfect printer
it will be better than the 12k GKtwo, marginally. as that is not as good as the 8k gktwo, which is what the GK3 ultra is like. but there's little in it
So in short, will handle them fine, you an just fit more on a plate.

Me? Well for what I want id get a reflex. But out of these 2… probably the 3 ultra so I could print massive stuff when I want to.
I would like your opinions about something. I was planning to get a gktwo. Since I mostly print miniatures (lootstudio). But some of their props could be done in one go on a bigger printer. I was also thinking, bigger printer = more miniatures in one go = less print time = less fumes or is there a noticeable print quality? What do you think? (Your reply will have an impact on my choice, but this is still my choice, so I won't blame anyone for their feedback)
The print quality is about the same as the 2. Slightly better.
I am planning a new workshop and need cabinets....but will the GK3 fit on my counter with the lid up and not hit the cabi ets? If you could hold a tape measure up to this beauty for me i would be chuffed to bits!

I have mixed thoughts about this printer. There is a lot I like in theory. First I really like the idea of the drip method they have e for allowing the resin to drip back into the tray after a print. I like multiple exposure testing in one print. I like that they have included a handle into the design. I like the thought put into how it pumps resin. I like that even though it is a larger printer you can still get decent resolution. You can definitely see the difference between 50 micron and 20 ish micron pixel resolution. I feel meh about the heating method. mostly because it's not a heating method. Leaving most resin 3d printers on will heat up from the bottom. It seems like they noticed made it more deliberate and then called it a feature. And I am not enamored by the price and the lack of an extraction hose attachment point. As much as cartridges are nice i want to vent it to the outside at the end of the day.
Bought everything, the resin code didn’t work, got the nfep it worked. Needed a new wash and cure anyway, mine was on its last legs. All I can say there went my cruise that I had planned to schedule and kill the flight to the UK I was looking at. I don’t need to head there anyway was there in May.🎉😂

Hey I was lucky I never get up at 5am being retired 11am is when a get up. But I had a problem with my Bambu X-1 I removed the metal plate than forgot to reinstall it. Was making pink unicorns well run out sensor failed than it finally stop went to look had a big ball of pink. lol Even the x-1 is not totally perfect but was a easy fix, where on other machines I would have walk away. Plan on using only your resin on the new machine.
This is a great resin printer！But I have a different opinion regarding the heating method. The transmittance of a 16K resolution LCD screen is very low, with most of the heat being absorbed by the screen or the machine's interior. Therefore, this heating method is inefficient, and at the same time, it will accelerate the aging of the exposure screen.😟

I'll still argue that the UV exposure has such a significant impact on it;s own, that the heat argument is negligeable.
I haven't seen people complaining that the GKTWO screen dies significantly faster than any other... and that printer allows you to heat it even warmer than this one.
@@FauxHammer In principle, there is the risk. I also have a GK2, but clearly, the GK3 has better features and a larger size. I’m considering purchasing a GK3! By the way, in my area, I rarely use the heater.
Does it still come with the uniformation slicer? I think it's important that there is competition in this space or else we'll all be slaves to chitubox or lychee

Honestly, can't wait for a full review. If it's anything like GKTwo, and it seems it is, with a few tweaks, it's well worth, even at full price. So much larger, but you can still print same quality miniatures, as well as giant things. Only problem with it is real life physics, because you can't put so large print area into a smaller footprint 😂😂

I have the GKtwo and love it. Personally I'm not going to pick up the GK3, unless/until the GKtwo burns out completely. I just don't have a need for the size.
One thing I was really hoping to see with the resin pump, after hearing that it was pressurizing the bottle, was for it to be able to 1: empty the vat, as it would make it even easier to fill, if we could just pour the resin into the vat, and then have it get sucked into the bottle, and 2: bubble air through the bottle to mix the resin, then wait a certain amount of time for bubbles to rise to the surface/pop and then start releasing it into the vat. There might be technical reasons why this is really hard, expensive to do, but that was just my initial thoughts when I first saw the announcement.
In the footage, you're popping bubbles during the print. Is this just because you had just poured freshly shaken resin into the vat? Or is the pump introducing the bubbles?
