I've got an NF3 for review arriving today. The reason I asked for that vs a silver sky is because I'm not the biggest fan of a traditional strat single coil sound but I like the overall feel and aesthetics of these PRS "strat" guitars. The NF3 delivers the aesthetics (that orange paint job model looks killer but unfortunately wasn't the one I was sent) along with a noiseless and beefier sound than what you'd get from a strat or silver sky without straying too much further from the traditional formula. I've been told by a few people who have them that the pickups sound like noiseless P90's. I think for the player who likes the look and feel of a strat but wants just a slight twist on the look/sound, the NF3 is the answer.
The neck is comfortable, the trem works nicely and I dig the pick ups. The clean and crunch tones appeal to me and it takes pedals well. To me it’s not unlike a fully produced Strat meets Tele meets 1980’s sound. Which come to think of it a big complaint about modeling amps is that it sounds too produced/ too much like a studio recording. Anyway I like it. The volume pot however acts more like and on off switch. That I don’t like. Cheers.
Sounds like it would be a really good tool and we need to check one out. Thanks for letting us know. Once we try one we will do a follow up so keep your eyes out.
On the contrary, I haven't been as excited in awhile to try out any new guitar as I have with the NF3 SE. I never really was thrilled with the Silver Sky, nor did I want one, as I already have a Fender Strat that I love. I have single-coil and humbucker guitars, but nothing that fits in-between. For me, this one fits that need really nicely. And besides, I absolutley love the look of the NF3 SE over the Silver Sky. I know this is purely subjective, but this is my favorite SE model PRS has ever put out. You can't look at these as a Strat, or a typical humbucker guitar, they are something altogether different, which is exactly what I was looking for. And as far as the bridge pickup not positioned at an angle, like with a Strat, being that it's not a single-coil pickup and doesn't behave as one, it really wouldn't be needed. IMO, PRS made a great call with these. It's unlike anything else that they currently have released, that covers a different tonal spectrum...it is it's own thing, which I think is brilliant!😁
It's good to hear you are excited for it. Would love to hear your thoughts after you get to check one out. We will do a follow up once we get to actually put one through its paces. When that happens we might feel different about them. Thanks for the input.
Hmmm many opinions seemingly knowing what the guitar is all about yet not having one in hand to demonstrate your points??? I have watch a bunch of the NF3 reviews and hoped to gain additional info to consider buying one or not. Very disappointing. I have a SS SE and had the Core SS. I do not like the hum of the single coils nor do I like the 25.5" scale length. I have numerous guitars with humbucker so for me the question is how close to single coils is it. I know its different - just how different. One video with Tone Junkie showed it nailing the S tone. Most people who are into it look at it as more of an 80's super strat type. Again to call something dumb your not playing is unfair.
Agree 100%. PRS SE has been knocking it out of the park but I don't see the point of the NF3 SE especially when you can get a Silver Sky SE instead. I guess if you want something Strat-like but sounds different or if you want noise cancelling pickups, then it might be your thing, but is there really that much demand for it? Doesn't seem like it. When it comes to reading the room for demand, PRS is usually on top of it, but I feel like the NF3 SE was a mistake. Personally, I think now would've been the perfect time to release a Tele style SE since a lot of people have been requesting it (I wouldn't be surprised if they're working on one currently). The Miles Kennedy signature has mini-humbuckers, but if they release an SE Tele then I feel like it should have single coils. The Silver Sky doesn't deviate that far from a Strat, and I feel like that was a good choice. It was just different enough to be unique and still scratch that classic Strat itch. They should keep that same thought process when making Tele-style SE. Even if it seems like they're straight up ripping off a Fender Tele, just make enough slight changes to make it unique and call it a day.
I am excited to see what Paul does with a more classic T Style guitar or a SE version. I agree that it’s most likely in the works. He always has some great twists on his guitars and I will be interested to see what he does with them.

That makes sense. The thought of it sounding closer to a noiseless P90 is intriguing for sure!
I own both. The NF3 is great. No single coil hum and the outputs sound great. Especially if you pay with the tone knob. Already sold my Silver Sky
Just curious, what made you sell the Silver Sky? Was it for an upgrade or just a change of guitars?
Oddly enough this is the only prs I like…I love it.
Great to hear you love it. What was different about this one that you like so much more?

@@tonebros6533 Well, actually, I've played on a few and have also bought one.🙂
@@teviswest Awesome! We will get our hands on one soon and get that follow up filmed.
