  • This week's guest is the world-famous composer and pianist, Ludovico Einaudi.
With 15 studio albums and over 80 films and TV shows to his name, he is one of the most prolific composers alive today. Ludovico repeatedly tops the classical charts globally. Incredibly, one in 10 classical streams in the UK come from his music, equating to over 1 million streams a day and 2.4 billion streams in total. He is the highest-streamed classical artist of all time.
Ludovico’s latest album flowed naturally out of him during the pandemic and is appropriately titled Underwater, as it was a creative deep dive to another place, "where he could swim freely without thoughts, without travel, and the usual rush of touring." As you can imagine, it is a wonderful soundtrack for the Slo Mo life.
A biography of a musician can only tell you so much about them, so I’d recommend streaming his music, even during this episode, to get a feel for the heart and soul of one of the great musical icons of our time as he invites us into his mind.
    Listen as we discuss:
    - Why does music make us feel so deeply?
    - Ludovico's upbringing with music and a beautiful explanation of his inspiration.
    - His stint with rock n'roll as a young boy. (Even Ludovico was inspired by The Beatles.)
    - Writing his new album, Underwater, during the pandemic, a result of new appreciation.
    - His incredible performance on an iceberg to bring attention to climate change.
    - The most beautiful thing we can do is enjoy nature. Everything else is distraction.
    - Grating carrots by hand instead of using a machine, a true Slo Mo habit.
    - Music is not just sound, but a holistic expression of your life.

I, for one among many, appreciate the actual silences in Einaudi's music. The music may surround silence, silence surround music, or silences and music may highlight each other in some kind of harmony. Expression is not only the sound.

In a way, silence is the ground for appreciating so much of life. Music is the feeling, as you both say. To me, personally I experience this and other music internally and viscerally. The interview reminds me of some childhood experiences feeling being in nature and loving the felt sense of things. Thank you for this interview.

Language also has music, in some writing and much poetry. The interview helps me answer those who ask, "What good is poetry? What good are novels?" I've literally been asked and it was hard to say. Whatever connects us with the ground of our living, I would say now. Dance and movement included. My child self danced spontaneously. Why, indeed.

His music speaks to my soul. I never took piano lessons and fully learnt how to play novule Bianche and experience just out of sheer love for the music.

I knew that Ludovico Einaudi had high emotional potential through how he manages to touch our souls with his music and through the different interviews. But here, we have an incredible description of his hypersensitivity !
