I really like your philosophy Russell. Your focus on the correct sequencing combined with hip rotation (which is what actually creates lag) highlights how simple and natural the golf swing really is. We get so focussed on moving the club first, rather than moving the body first and setting our backswing into position.
Great video thanks , have trouble hitting ball turf😡
As you rightfully say, it's about the sequence of events that create the right swing. For me personally, feeling grounded with both feet is one of the foundations, like grip, stance etc that I've been sort of ignoring but appeared to be key to a much better swing and ball striking. Overall balance (fwd/backwd + left/right) and applying the right pressure into the ground with my feet is the key thing I am still somewhat lacking on more relaxed/half wedge shots vs full iron shots. Would love to see some vids on that!
I agree. Grounded feet, correct grip, good golf posture, and good alignment are like 90% of hitting a decent shot. Swinging the club becomes fairly easy when the setup is spot on.
Ok I’m on it
Hi Russell the video you done about a month ago the magic move and then this video, I have really got so much out of the two videos. It has created so much space to come through the ball and makes so much sense thank you.
Awesome
Russell, this brings clarity to what my coach is trying to teach me. I feel it in my iron rehearsal swings on the course. The swing starts down slow and really speeds though impact. Oddly, with more speed comes more consistency and direction. I'm sure it's because the technique is correct. Thanks for the explanation!
Great lesson again as always! I would like to thank you Russell for helping my game these last 2 years.
I was shooting +12 to +15 before the pandemic and now I am consistently around +6. Getting good information is a very important key to unlocking a persons potential and you have been providing this in abundance!!!
Thanks for sharing
Golf is so hard
This open at impact with the hips tilting has revolutionized my iron swing, I struggled with the timing in applying this to my driver swing but now am considerably choking down the driver and eliminating unsynchronized movements in favor of hips torso shoulders staying linked and synched. So starting to feel like my driver and iron swing are one and the same, just with a difference in ball position.
Got a bunch of golf events coming up so we'll see how it does on the course. (When it comes to my driver swing pre-adjusted, can't get much worse, I was a yip machine)
Thanks Russ, still working on getting my weight to shift left at the top of the back swing, so I’ll hopefully get to this next!!
HI Russell, this "Up-and-Open" always cause me to top the ball. Could you suggest how to balance between the body up and topping the ball. Thanks Alan from Canada
This could be a backswing fault not impact. Maybe try to stay more centred first then get up. It’s also possible your getting up but loosing depth. Get the feeling of getting up whilst staying on the chair
great video, but i'd offer a suggestion: hit several shots during your explanation. it will not only add to our understanding, but you have an awesome swing and us weekend players are inspired when we see it.
👍🏻🙏🏻
Please please Russel, can you do a video on going in depth about the timing of this extension, hopefully with some drills to achieve this. Meanwhile I think, it‘s one of the key things, if you do it right. But - it‘s such a thin line of timing it right. It‘s not only the early extension, when you move your hips outward to the ball. Even if your posture is correct („hips on the chair“), doing it too early ruins the whole swing. Thankyou.
Up and through 🤔 man I can’t wait to go to the range this week. Ive struggled for years trying to get rid of my baseball type spin out. I hit the ball ok but I know I don’t hit the ball with much compression. Hope this is the missing peace to my swing
Good clear detailed lesson. Thanks!
This was supper helpful! Thank you!
Thanks Russell for this tip. I have working on transferring my weight forward prior to swinging the club forward. This tip has especially helped me to not hit behind the ball.
Great lesson. When do you actually release the hands ? This one always puzzles . Through impact or after impact. If it is after impact , then you are hitting down on the ball ?
Ok I’m on it this week
What I struggle with in doing this is when I (right hand dominate) "power" the downswing with my right hand I struggle with consistent contact. Is this move better done by powering the downswing with the lead (left for me) hand?
Maybe, contact could also be linked to a lack of lateral motion in the downwinf
Awesome explanation Russell, a true “aha” moment for me. Thanks so much!
Great video as always!! This is something I need to work on!
Thanks, it is difficult for me to apply but I got it….I use to stand up too much at the end of the swing so I guess that is why I’m not compressing too much the ball and my club head speed is low (70-72 mph with a 7 iron)
Hi Russell, Very enlightening, The problem I have is sometimes I revert to sending my hands forward, I get great contact when literally on the down swing at impact I try to take my hands to my left hip, is this right? in what direction at impact and after are the hands travelling, I "post up" better and with long irons it does feel that I and jumping If my hands feel more inward left as apposed to down the line. I hope this make sense as I'm struggling with this. Thanks Gary.
Hard to say as your hands are influenced by your rotation too. The key thing is a repeatable ball flight. If that’s what your getting then 👍🏻
@@russellheritagegolf Hi, just watched your video from earlier this year helped a lot, great tuition. Putting what you have teach into practice net and on the course really has helped me, Thanks Gary
One thing that sticks out to me between the 2 positions shown on the headline/initial post of this video is the left shoulder is free and extended from chin. I , on the other hand ,seem to be jammed together left chin close to shoulder at impact. Is this extension related. My shoulder goes up but it’s too close to my chin???
Possibly this could just be your head position in truth. I’m not sure if this is the feeling your after but maybe give it a try and see how you get on. I would assume it’s the chest rotation your after
Russ, does this move affect ball height in the ball flight? Makes me think could be the reason I tend to have low ball flight.
Sure will help lift the ball up a little more
I definitely get stuck staying down and hit heavy often. Need to practice working that left shoulder back up.
Much needed
Its keeping the head level or even going slightly downwards whilst trying to get the body to come up that eludes me....i always feel like my head comes up a bit early when I release through the shot......plagued me for years!
This is the importance of hip depth. This tilts the pelvis and keeps the head down
Great vid
Thanks..now i am +11
Who is the new guy? What did they do with Russell? 🤔
Looks ~10 years younger.
Russell this is the biggest “aha moment” for me. You have nailed it, I have nailed, perfect body motion.
Thank you.
Jerry
If you focus on pushing into the ground at the right time, the extension tends to happen naturally because the ground pushes back.
