Absolutely love this!! It's secure under the bass drum hoop, so no tape or whatever required. I'll add that it really muffles superbly without completely killing the bass drum overall sound. I highly recommend it for live and recording situations!! Plus no having to reset pillows or towels or whatever every time you move your bass drum!! Thanks Remo!!!
This would've been better if he was playing a simple groove without the highhat barking. Cool product though! Might have just given me a reason to switch from an Emad to a Remo kick head. I play all Remo, except for the emad.
The Sub Muff'L is available for a 16" and sounds great! Thanks for the comment! remo.com/products/product/external-sub-muffl-bass-drum-system/#MF-3016-00
handidrummed but maybe this won’t come unglued or tear like the Emad does? I’ve used Emads a long time and every last one of them has done one or the other or both!
@@drumfanatik316 Never had an EMAD rip of tear on me. The plastic ring on this however makes a rattle sound when hit though, at least when I tried it both times after returning it once.
Would like to hear this on a kick drum that does not have the special rings built in to break up frequencies like the Mapex you are using. Are those not specifically designed where you do not need internal dampening?
Just like any dampening the sub muff'l enhances the low range frequencies but any slight loss in the highs that may impact the attack can be offset by adding a falam slam if you're not already using one. Thanks for the question.
That would be cool if Remo made one for the reso head but instead of installing it over the head, why not make it to go on inside of the head kinda like the remo muff L ring but with this design
Closest thing that I can think of that they have for the reso head would be the Felt Tone head. It has a vintage-style strip on what I can only describe as an "extended" version of the Powerstroke ring. It has a similar gating effect as this new Sub Muff'l ruclips.net/video/aTF8X6NK9nc/видео.html
Zephyr Vibez Yep but you can use the tray and mufflers on any brand kick drum head as it is not glued to the head like an emad’s tray is. Also you can take sections of the muffling out. I cut the foam rings on my emad heads so I might try this since it does that without cutting any foam and it adjusts from room to room with the removable padding.
You have a front hole? The basketball sound is pretty common for all bass drums but especially when using a front hole and a dampened batter head like this. Sounds Like A Drum did a video on this exact problem where they put a sandbag in the kick, not touching either head, and it solved all the problems.
hdrumnp yeah it’s always sounded like a basketball in a big gym bouncing without anything on my bass drum. Every engineer I’ve worked with has insisted to put something in there. Not entire sheets, that’s overboard but a tiny little pillow does the trick or even a t shirt, just a much more focused deep sound. Depends on the type of music, if you want a more resonant higher tuned bass drum then that’s fine to put nothing in there but for prog and metal and other styles that require a deep punchy attack that gets out of the way quick because of the fast hits, then having muffling in the bass drum is necessary. It’s all preference, why does it make you tired of seeing other drummers do that? If it’s not what you like then don’t do it simple as that. Other drummers who like that sound AND FEEL which I like the feeling and sound of having some muffling in the bass drum then drummers like me can do that. The drumming community would be a boring ass place if everyone used the same technique gear and had the same opinions and preferences on sound.
Andy Ham My comment was more geared towards people who stuff a blanket into their bass drum, dig the beater, and then wonder why their drum has no tone. Playing in studios frequently and recording all kinds of music, I’m well aware of sonic needs based on the order of the day.
I disagree. If you’re gonna leave your bass drum head all flappy like that one then yes leave your drum empty, but if crank it like you should and get some proper head tones out of it you NEED to muffle the drum. No one wants to hear an 808 every time you hit.
Robin Gustafsson Emads are great, but every one of them I’ve ever had has either came unglued or the ring that holds the foam has split or both! This is kind of ugly, but looks as if it may hold up better do to the fact it’s not glued down?
@@drumfanatik316 Hmm, interesting. Shame that you've had that experience, personally that's never happened to me with any of my EMADS. Are you changing heads often/using a really high tuning with a lot of tension on the head or something?
Robin Gustafsson not at all. I change my head once to twice a year, depending on the amount of gigs I’m playing. I play mainly rock and some metal but I don’t tune it high at all. Like one turn past finger tight. But the ring itself that holds the foam in place is what splits. And I’ve had the adhesive start to give up in areas of the head that it’s “bubbling” and doesn’t make full contact with the head. Not sure what the deal is either?
Yeah, but this allows you to use any head in the Remo category of kick drum heads. The EMAD series is very limited in the models. And I like that you essentially have three levels of dampening instead of two.
Two things from this video:
1) that clear ambassador sounded 🔥
2) excited to try this out!

Please, please make a version of this for marching bass drums. That would solve a huge headache for teachers.
Thanks for sharing your feedback!
Ambassador clear all the way!
Would it take that much effort to compare the sound with and without the muffler? How am I supposed to judge if its worth the buck
They made a comparison video!
NEED THIS FOR MY 16" KICK!!
Remo, this is a great idea. Thumbs up from me. Also, is this Russ Miller playing?
Wish you had a 26"...
no kidding!!!!

Taylor Mead I’ve played coated and clear P3’s, clear emad and clear emad2.. the clear P3 records the best IMO.

incredible !!!
Would the 16" size fit on a floor tom?
Would the 16” fit on a regular floor Tom?

Would you get any punch out of an ambassador if muffled?
How can we purchase one? Or when will it be available?
These are just starting to ship now so they will be hitting stores and coming online over the next 2 weeks.
How does it affect attack? I don't want to lose that.

Forget the muffflll what is the pedal.
DW Machined Chain Drive Double Pedal
I’d buy this in a heart beat but don’t think it will work with my trigger? 😢😢😢
Buy Footblasters.
Can it be folded in half to be packed inside a suitcase? Because I travel to the US next week and I want to buy one 22in. Thanks

I bought one, installed it and then realised that I can't attach my pedal the same way anymore...
So an emad

Anyone else using this product getting that "basketball sound" when mic'ing the kick?

Im good with my pillow
Why??? Hello Remo and other drum head manufacturers! Some of us play 26" bass drums!!! STOP cutting your sizes off at 24"!!!!!!!!
Nothing in the drum, just how it ought to be. So tired of seeing entire bed sets in people’s bass drums.
Nick Colantonio seriously, you get a real sound with nothing in there

Really good idea, except for the fact that the EMAD already does this, and this one is much uglier imho...
