Anyone else find Jefferson's few lines (0:35) surprisingly difficult to get a feel for meter-wise? I keep trying over and over and I either end up too fast, too slow, or not in the correct rhythm. It's like a lot of the syllables in "while slaves were being slaughtered and carted away" are just slightly staggered from the beat.
