The boat wasn't open to the public years and years ago at the Annapolis boat show, and I'd never heard of them, but the sales guy liked my questions and invited me on board. It was Safari (I think hull #2 of the original 62 Gunboat). And it was the most perfect boat I'd ever stepped on. I've been obsessed ever since. You don't get to say this that often, but I have to say, again, this one looks PERFECT!
Have been following ever since your purchasing of Peter Johnson's defunct company.. This is the best looking Gunboat ever.. VPLP have done an amazing job in design inside and out.. Spoke to your CEO /Director on an Outremer at the Gold Coast Boat Show at Coomera a few years ago just after the takeover and was very impressed with the planned direction.. Can't wait to see one of these new designs in the water.. The ultimate in elegance and speed.. Best of luck for this 68.. Thank you for the updates and this video..
I have been following Gunboat since the "Wipe Out" video went viral in the sailing world. The original classic Morelli and Melvin design is an icon for performance cats, but this design is nothing short of breathtaking. Gunboat is now officially a 'Supercat' of performance sailing, like Bugatti, Pagani, Porche, Ferrari, Koenigsegg, et al. of the auto world. I thought Nigel's APC 78 was the most elegant cat until this G68's debut. Peter's legacy lives on; Gunboat is in capable hands at La Grand Large Yachting, vive la France...
They trusted a Chinese yard with manufacturing, warranty, and a non-compete. There were some problems especially with warranty that the Chinese yard wouldn't honor, so gunboat left, and the Chinese yard immediately started building a competitor (ruclips.net/video/JaSwN2RW32A/видео.html). While gunboat had to honor the warranty work out of their own pocket. Manufacturing in China killed the company. They got bought up by the French makers of outremer. Who seem to be doing an outstanding job.
