I can't believe Donatella had the audacity to stop casting Fernanda. Her body and walk were perfect for Versace. I think Fernanda is the best representation of a Brazilian woman we've had in the runway so far: Very mixed and a fuller body. Isabeli, Raquel, Caroline T, Michele and Gisele are amazing, but they can pass as Europeans.
Fernanda Tavares looks quite European, too if you ask me. She got a very Mediterranean look like Isabeli Fontana, and at times she resembles Natalie Portman, who is also Mediterranean (Israeli). Tavares is a Portuguese surname, so most likely she has Iberian genes. Caroline Ribeiro and Adriana Lima had more racially ambiguous looks.
@@lissandrafreljord7913 I understand you both but im Brazilian and we are the most mixed country in the world, there's nothing like ``looking more Brazilian`` this is literally Brazil, being a mix, you will find people in all heights, weights, looks, hair and skin color, we don't have a Brazilian default, its the only country you can find supermodels from lais ribeiro to Gisele, and that's our thing, don't try to categorize us as other places, that could sound disrespectful , thank you.
@@ingridkorziniewski I ain't darling. And I am quite aware of that Brazil is an extremely diverse country when it comes to races. The only country that can rival Brazil in its racial diversity would be the US. Just like Brazil, you can find Americans of European, African, East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, West Asian, Pacific Island, Amerindian (mostly mestizo Mexican Americans) descent, and any of the mixes. I was just pointing out that the OP seems to have in mind that passing as European = blonde + blue eyes, which isn't true. Europe has a lot of brown eyed brunettes like Fernanda, especially in Southern Europe. Fernanda to me looks predominantly of Southern European descent.
i'm pretty sure she stopped going on her own, she almost entirely quit fashion shows after 2004, only doing vsfs in 2005. i believe at this time she moved back to brazil, only two years later she started a family
Fernanda is one of my favorite Brazilian models! She is a beautiful, versatile model and a spectacular walk. His poses at the end of the catwalk are strong and killer!
Johnny a few are definitely good but many I feel only got successful because any models go had a Brazilian passport was on "trend" in the late 90's & early 00's. Gisele and Fernanda look nothing alike (except maybe eye shape) but Gisele getting so famous defiantly helped Fernanda and other Brazilian models. I always thought of Fernanda as an unlikely fashion model. She got *really* lucky in my opinion! Sure her career is no where near as successful as Gisele's, but even then she did a lot better than I personally think she deserved (no hate, just the truth). She did quite a few high fashion shows but her performances were not consistent (sometimes she looked STUNNING and other times she looked incredibly PLAIN!). Also she would walk clumsy at times, adjust her runways outfits a lot (Versace 2002 & VS 2003), and also show up late to important shoots like Versace. No wonder her career pretty much ended by 2005.
@@vcyre idk she was in every versace shows from 2001 to 2004 until Donatella throws her like she did w michelle alves but i counted once she did the most shows after them
Totalmente!
I always thought of her as an unlikely fashion model. People mock Gisele for her small eyes and slightly big nose but Fernanda has smaller eyes and a bigger nose! She also had a relatively thick straight-up-and-down mid-section. For every photo where she looked pretty, there was another where she look really plain. She often fidgeted with her outfits which is unprofessional and showed up late to Versace shoots. She got *really* lucky in my opinion that models with Brazilian passports were in style in the late to mid 90's (mainly due to Gisele) and I think that really helped her career. Once the Eastern Euro models and the "dolls" came into fashion, her high fashion career was over (around 2005) and she started focusing more on Brazilian projects. I think she was a successful but "filler" model just like many others from different modeling eras. That's not a bad thing but she doesn't deserve the same kind of praise as Gisele or Karolina or Natasha who were able to outlive trends and had the looks, talent, and work ethic to continue.
- - Fernanda got pregnant and married a famous and very succesful brazilian actor in 2007. That’s why SHE interrupted her international career, because she wanted to start a family and be a present mother. And Did you know she had one of the most lucrative contracts in fashion history ever; An 8 million dollars contract with L’oreal Paris (2000 -2008). Not to mention she was the first brazilian model to be on the cover of French Vogue at the very young age of 17.
No offence but you don't know how the fashion industry works. When a fashion model gained enough fame, she can stop doing shows. Shows are very tiring, mostly don't earn a lot (unless you're at the TOP like Naomi, Gemma, Sasha, etc were). After a while, models can count on lucrative cosmetics/hair/commercial contracts. They can earn millions with those contracts and only a few thousands for some fashion shows. Some models like Natasha Poly, Mariacarla Boscono, Anja Rubik, Magdalena Frackowiak did fashion shows for 10-15 years because they enjoy it. Models can literally... just.. stop doing shows if they don't need them or don't want to do them.
MiggSuperMan just because I don't agree with means that I don't know how the industry works? 🙄 Funny because I actually WORK in the industry instead of sitting at home watching RUclips videos. I know that when models become very successful they usually stop doing shows BUT Fernanda wasn't getting much editorial work either after the Brazilian craze died down in 2005 (and the "Eastern European/doll look" came into fashion). Now Gisele is power house who was photogenic enough to outlive the Brazilian passport trend.
Adriana Lima NO because by 2005/2006 she was barely doing high end work and that was BEFORE she got pregnant. Her high fashion career pretty much ended by the time the Brazilian-passport trend was over and the doll/Eastern-European trend had started. Now Giselle and Adriana were photogenic enough to continue in the industry. Fernanda of course is not strapped for cash due to those L'Oréal campaigns BUT those commercials were for Brazilian audiences. She definitely wasn't on billboards in New York or Paris after 2005. But the same thing happened to models who got a come up based on being Eastern European from 2005-2010. Look at Snejana Onopka compared to Natasha Poly. Snejana's high fashion career ended by 2012 because her being Ukrainian wasn't going to keep the fashion industry's attention but Natasha had the cheekbones and work ethic to still get work even today from Balmain etc.
MiggSuperMan sorry but you cannot compare Fernanda to Natasha or any of the other models you mentioned. Fernanda didn't just "choose" to stop high fashion editorials, she just wasn't in demand anymore once having a Brazilian passport was no longer was in fashion. No one except those who were really into learning about the fashion industry during the late to mid 00's remember Fernanda Tavares. She was a successful but "filler" model. We see these filler models types from every model trend or wave. When waifs were in, there were many models that got high end contracts but suddenly disappeared when Brazilians came into fashion (mainly due to Gisele's fame- she paved the way for them to trend) and then the Brazilian filler models who didn't have what it takes suddenly disappeared when the "EE dolls" came in. Then the fillers from those years ALSO disappeared (like Snejana Onopka, Mariya Markina etc.) when the "ugly pretty" or social media girls came. My point is that not every successful model from an era was successful due to her looks or talent. Snejana was VERY successful in the mid to late 00's but she was riding on a different trend just like Fernanda. Snejana's not ugly but she definitely can look plain at times and has been trying for a comeback for years with no success. Sometimes a lot of these models became successful due to hype ("oh this model is from X so she's in") and weren't able to outlive trends.
