Do BMW's not have a light on the dash or something that indicates that the door isn't shut all the way? You know, like my 1989 Camry had, and every other car I've driven since then.
BMW door cards are not really attached well at all in the e36/e46 the bottom part starts letting go very easily when the cars get older. Also I have closed a car door before from the inside and after that I still had the door handle in my hand not attached anymore. But that was not a BMW.
got an 04 ZHP with 170k miles and I commute 60 miles a day with it, runs like a clock and its a joy to drive. Don't think I could justify a $8000 supercharger kit though

Have you seen the values of them now? A clean e46 330 went for $26k on bring a trailer recently and it wasnt even low mileage. These cars were putting out WAY more than official figures suggested - easily over 250hp stock. 14 sec 1/4 mile is only slightly slower than an e92 335!
Which is especially weird because you can get a good exhaust sound on those with stock exhaust and just a muffler delete and it sounds better than his exhaust
LegendInThaMakin it may be better but the only thing in my opinion who saved the E9X platform was the coupe..the E92..because when the e90 sedan came out it was so fucking ugly especially from the rear it was not even funny , plus big problems with the small 2.0 diesel engines..so the e9x platform eventually matured, fixed the issues , the sedan facelift actually looks good but i dont know it's still not as special as the e46 but it is probably more capable no doubt :)

These E-46's were last true driver's cars in terms of handling, sportiness, classic good looks, performance and sound that fit the slogan, "the ultimate driving machine."

It's a Borla catback with bimmer brake headers. The headers cause the rattly, raspy sound that sounds bad. BMW I6's with a Borla by themselves sound good.
Seems like all anyone does in the comments of these reviews is bitch about the persons exhaust, instead of complementing how well kept the car is or something around that remark lmao.
That sounds too tinny for Borla.. all borlas are a beefy bassy sound.. kid prob has no idea what's on it, sounds like a cheap fiberglass thin metal exhaust
I think people jump on the sound too much. With i6/v6/i4 engines, you really have to hear them in person to get the low notes that the camera can't pick up. You can't just hear a video and dictate if it sounds good or not
My E46 330ci is now 17 years old with 223,000km. It goes like stink and doesn't have a single rattle. Maybe it's because it's 700lbs lighter than stock, has not a single piece of trim left other than the dash, and if half seam welded O:). The poly bushings creak like hell though. Debating FI.... would be almost scary at 2700lbs with a 3.38 diff on the super tight country lanes around here...
The last BMW 3-series i would buy. Even now these cars look really good, and they work out in the real world too. ..and thumbs up for this car in particular. Looks good, and is very tastefully modified.
@@startingtech3900 ZHP refers to the "ZHP" package that BMW offered on these cars. It consisted of a revised suspension, 18" wheels, a little more horsepower, a few styling upgrades, and some other stuff. Hope this helps!
ZHP's are pretty rare I'm sure all his friends didn't have them! Probably a lot of 330's but the ZHP is pretty hard to find there not everywhere even back then.

I wish we got E46 330ci ZHP's in Australia. I think there's some clubsport or m-optioned 330ci's but definitely not ZHP. They're a solid compromise for a poor man's M3.
Just take a 330 and throw in some Schrick cams and M3/upgraded suspension. Body kit if you want. It will be just as fast and cheaper than buying a ZHP.

I owned an E46 M3, and while no one will argue it was and still is a great car, I was never too fond of the sound. It is a unique high pitch raspy sound. Check out my vid of the exhaust I had and it sounded similar to this. I upgraded to an E92 M3 a few years back and I still never get tired of hearing the wonderful rumble of the V8. Cool car nonetheless.
You change out the midpipe (to get rid of the rasp) and get an El Diablo Exhaust and the car sounds perfect. There you go! Problem solved. I have an E46 M3 Competition in Interlagos Blue. That sound of the S54 never gets old and turns heads everywhere I go.

Matt was really nice to this driver and his car, good for you Matt. I do kind of agree that the exhaust sounds more like a 4 cylinder engine than a inline 6. I owned a vr6 with a Borla exhaust a few years back and even that sounded beefier than this, still a nice car I wouldn't mind owning though so props to the driver on his nice BMW.

I would like to get this kid on a wrecking ball. I have a E46, loved it until the reverse gear went. I am so tempted to buy a E46 vert, they are just beautiful. Perhaps if I find the right one, although I love my G37s. That engine in a E46 would be awesome.
M54's are excellent motors, reliable and very easy to work on, but they lack the power that the hungry car modder craves today since turbo cars are so common now I own an Imola Red ZHP sedan, and its a great daily car but I could never see it going much further The only thing that makes them likeable by many is the price you can find some ZHP's for, or ZSP 330i's Worth the price and investment if you keep it for a few years
Brandon Andrade If you want to make power, you need the early M50. The internal changes made from there onto M52 and M54 made them shittier and shittier.
It's not really about the power though. the ZHP is all balance. I have a Mystic Blue Metallic Sedan, 6MT, no nav, slick roof that I've put about 75,000 miles on over the last 4 years. It's such a sweetheart. Easy to heal-toe, wonderful steering, great ride quality, solid comfort, decent mileage. The miles melt away in any environment; and given the right tires, and weather. You CAN take an M54 up to about 400 whp, but that's about all they'll do without internal reworks that aren't worth it (just drop in an N54 at that point). And you'd have to contend with other driveline issues at that point anyway. It's just not really what they're about.
real M suspension is very different than other 3 series. different mounting points for sway bars , struts etc... different geometry than a regular 3 series for sure.
$4200 is a lot for only 300 wheel horsepower. How much did this have stock? These days with the turbo cars you can get way more power for just a couple hundred bucks for a piggy back tune. Could have used that money for a newer car plus trade in with more power.

I was surprised he did not rip the door handle off it that speed, the door cards are not infinitely strong.
Door handles aren't just attached to the cards, they tend to be anchored to the body of the door. Otherwise they'd break very easily.

Borla and headers can be a little raspy. The supercharger made it worse I believe.

I have an 01 330ci 5 speed. These cars are amazing and reliability isnt an issue if you love the car and take care of it.

The torque is higher then you would expect, 300 whp would roughly be 350 ft-lb on these engines with a supercharger like this.

You change out the midpipe (to get rid of the rasp) and get an El Diablo Exhaust and the car sounds perfect. There you go! Problem solved. I have an E46 M3 Competition in Interlagos Blue. That sound of the S54 never gets old and turns heads everywhere I go.

Should I trade my 06 civic si coupe for a 330i zhp BMW sedan ? Both clean titles bmw has about 20k less miles .. I really like the bmw but idk which is worth more

Matt was really nice to this driver and his car, good for you Matt. I do kind of agree that the exhaust sounds more like a 4 cylinder engine than a inline 6. I owned a vr6 with a Borla exhaust a few years back and even that sounded beefier than this, still a nice car I wouldn't mind owning though so props to the driver on his nice BMW.

I would like to get this kid on a wrecking ball. I have a E46, loved it until the reverse gear went. I am so tempted to buy a E46 vert, they are just beautiful. Perhaps if I find the right one, although I love my G37s. That engine in a E46 would be awesome.

M54's are excellent motors, reliable and very easy to work on, but they lack the power that the hungry car modder craves today since turbo cars are so common now
I own an Imola Red ZHP sedan, and its a great daily car but I could never see it going much further
The only thing that makes them likeable by many is the price you can find some ZHP's for, or ZSP 330i's

Brandon Andrade If you want to make power, you need the early M50. The internal changes made from there onto M52 and M54 made them shittier and shittier.
It's not really about the power though. the ZHP is all balance.
I have a Mystic Blue Metallic Sedan, 6MT, no nav, slick roof that I've put about 75,000 miles on over the last 4 years.
It's such a sweetheart.
Easy to heal-toe, wonderful steering, great ride quality, solid comfort, decent mileage.
The miles melt away in any environment; and given the right tires, and weather.
You CAN take an M54 up to about 400 whp, but that's about all they'll do without internal reworks that aren't worth it (just drop in an N54 at that point). And you'd have to contend with other driveline issues at that point anyway. It's just not really what they're about.

Dirt4k by the way yes the m50 is the best motor to handle boost on stock internals followed by the m52 and the m54.
Its not an e46 if it doesn't have aftermarket halo's...B/C the OEM ones weren't rice enough.
real M suspension is very different than other 3 series. different mounting points for sway bars , struts etc... different geometry than a regular 3 series for sure.
It's not "very" different--it's the same design with some geometry/subframe changes.

Have you ever owned a BMW Matt? If so which one
$4200 is a lot for only 300 wheel horsepower. How much did this have stock? These days with the turbo cars you can get way more power for just a couple hundred bucks for a piggy back tune. Could have used that money for a newer car plus trade in with more power.
Lol its not always about power. I drove fast mustang coyotes and Camaros. The bmw zhp is much more fun to drive despite the lesser power.
