Youve got to do Elvis Presley (October 28th 1956) on the Ed Sullivan Show in black and white. He was very young and naive then, its wonderful to watch, he speaks at the end, not to be missed. You won't regret it.....
Yep, Elvis served in the the Army after being drafted at age 20 after his first year of budding stardom. He was stationed in Germany. After his enlistment was over, he launched his movie and recording career. This period was like stage 2 of the Elvis Era
According to eyewitnesses Elvis himself was melting and they had to wash the suit down in the intermission and dry it with a hairdryer. 🤣 So stylish but the worst kind of outfit for the heat of a TV studio ...
Notice she is smiling with that glint in her eyes. She is smiling like all woman do who watch this beautiful talented man and can't take their eyes off of him.
Understandably. I mean when one thinks of Germany back in the day they think of war and Nazi Germany. And she lost her first born, and her mother 4 months after hos death, with Elvis being the only survivor. She had a right to be worried, poor thing.
I grew up to this man's music. I was 10 y/o---------5th grade--------when " Heartbreak Hotel hit the radio. And I have to say, it's one of my all-time favorites. The man was the best lookin dude I ever saw-----------he just had " it " ----------whatever that was, he had it. Damn! --------MJL< 76 y/o
Elvis in this '68 version "Heartbreak Hotel" is best of Elvis version ! Truly like real heartbreaking, feel so painful and hurting even crying and a lot tears ! Most by Elvis in '68 backing rebel style and return to rock, no more nice guy, Elvis wanna be himself and do anything he wanna be, Most in '68 in this live tv show is really success and Elvis just telling all of fans say : "Elvis is back ! Nobody or anybody can beat me, Nobody can stop me I wanna be ! Because I'm Elvis Presley !"
Believe it or not, Elvis had to be talked into walking out onto this stage. He hadn't performed live in almost 10 years and was fearful fans wouldn't like him. Thankfully Steve Binder coaxed him...and the rest is history.
He is and always will be one of a kind. And it doesn't get any better than the 68 special. He was gorgeous and better than he had ever been. Full of life, full of spunk, full of laughter and full of himself and let it fall over on everyone else. He was the GOAT. Greatest Of All Time and forever will be. Enjoyed yall's reaction to him.
When you can mess up, stop in the middle of the song, talk, laugh, tell the audience it’s the worse performance you’ve ever done and it’s STILL a classic performance? . . . your the definition of cool!
look for Elvis Presley 1968 Comeback special live in Burbank, California -- the "stand up session" -- you'll a number of geat songs while he's looking amazingly gorgeous; it's in the Army in Germany where he met Priscilla when she was 14
Elvis was drafted. He was offered to serve as an entertainer on bases. He said turned military down and said he wanted to serve like any other young man. He did serve two years in Germany, where he met Priscilla. Elvis did everything just like everyone. No special treatment. He came home a sergeant. He loved America.🇺🇸
Hello Kids!! You HAVE To Hear Elvis Do "Lawdy Miss Claudy" By The Legendary Lloyd Price!! It's From The Same 1968 Comeback Special, He DOES NOT Play When He Performs This Song, He Does A VERY Respectful Version Of It. Grace and Peace, Ralph In CT
Omg he was such a beautiful man! When my granddaughter was 3, she saw a life size cutout of gold lame Elvis. She looked up at him and said "I'm gonna marry him!".
68 Special is my favorite. you guys are beautiful. I am in the twlight of my life, but new generation of Elvis fans give me hope for the future. ❤ y'all. God bless you more 🙏
The '68 Comeback Special was filmed in two sections. The first was where they had two different audiences in a close setting of fans. He hadn't performed for a live audience in 1o years. They used reactions from both parts of selected songs to broadcast on the show. The second part was more in the line of a variety show of musical sketches to give him a chance to showcase his maturing vocals. It also gave him the confidence to end his movie career and begin touring again. The music scene had changed so much in the time since he performed live. And then, we got an improved idol for his core audience that loved him even more.
@@teijaflink2226 it was his Hollywood period. He was making movies as well as the soundtracks for his films. He became the first actor to earn a million dollars per film.
First time I heard him was on an Army NAAFI juke box in 1956. I knew then that he was something special - his raw voice was so unique which many tried to copy, no one came close. Our own, Cliff Richard sounded like a choirboy in comparison. I don't believe we will ever see his like again, a true phenomenon!!
Elvis was drafted and served in the Army from 1958 to 1960. This was his first appearance in front of a live audience since a USS Arizona Memorial benefit concert in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 25, 1961. Just before this song, Elvis went to Steve Binder, the director of the show, and said " I can't do it." He had done nothing but make movies for the last 7 years and was worried the audience wouldn't accept him. Steve told him "you've got to at least go out there." He told Elvis he could change his mind once he was on stage, but he had to at least make an appearance. Once he was in front of the audience, his instincts took over.
Yup, and Elvis could have gotten out of being drafted due to his celebrity status, instead he refused any preferential treatment and insisted on fulfilling his patriotic duty to the country, just like everyone else at that time. Ironically it was his willingness to serve that became yet another one of the many reasons why he continued to be so endeared, especially with the 1950’s era of pearl clutching conservatives (no offense intended) who only a few years earlier were horrified by his supposedly “suggestive” dance moves and trying their hardest to have him canceled. Elvis had a very natural way of reaching into peoples hearts. No question Elvis had to overcome some difficult “cultural” times and norms that existed here in America at that time. More important, Elvis was successful because he was obviously a good man! He worked hard and didn’t ever stop believing in himself. Elvis became the “superstar” that we love, listen to and talk about still 43 years after his untimely death back in 1977. TCB
James Burton was another good guitar playing of his. He was in Army in Germany for 2 years. Charlie Hodge told me that he was always nervous before going on stage esp at the 68 Comeback Special. Elvis could just sit there n smile n we all would go crazy
Saw him in Vegas, WOW...I would recommend watching Elvis and the Black Community, short documentary, after this you will understand Elvis roots in gospel music, gives you the whole story of Elvis. Enjoying your channel
One of the best in this show is "Trying to get to you." He had been filming movies & making TV guest appearances since 1960 or so. This was his first live performance since then. He really was very nervous. He was in the Army for 2 years. Also check out Return to Sender and I don't wanna be Tied. From the movie Girls!Girls!Girls!
Young Elvis, old Elvis, Slim Elvis, Fat Elvis, the package was always gorgeous but the thing about Elvis was he was sweet, funny, generous, humble, all with a voice that changed lives, he was and always will be the King....
If you wanna hear Elvis at his BEST (vocally), you have to do "IF I CAN DREAM" from the same 68' comeback special. He closed the show with that song as a tribute to MLK who had recently been assassinated.
One of the funniest moments from the comeback special is when Elvis goes into the introduction of another song and Charlie Hodge walks over to pick a piece of paper tissue off of Elvis' cheek (he'd just dabbed the sweat off his face with a tissue from somebody in the audience and a piece of the tissue was left stuck to his cheek) and gives it to a girl in the audience who then proceeds to put it IN HER PURSE, LOL!!!! Elvis just shakes his head in slight embarrassment but with a smile on his face and says "It never ceases to amaze me, boy, I tell ya." That's how he felt about the level of adoration some of his fans gave him: he kind of had to laugh about it because it was so over the top.
Elvis: HIS HAND IN MINE, LIFE, I JOHN, BY & BY, MILKY WHITE WAY, ONLY BELIEVE, I BELIEVE, TAKE MY HAND, WHO AM I, WHY ME LORD, YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE, AN EVENING PRAYER, ON A SNOWY CHRISTMAS NIGHT, WINTER WONDERLAND, SANTA CLAUS IS BACK IN TOWN
Fantastic reaction!! This was Elvis's first million-selling record in 1956 and was #1 on the billboard charts for 8 weeks. Throughout 1956-57 he had 14 million-selling records with 9 of them reaching #1 on the charts plus 2 #1 albums. White racists were scared to death that he was bringing the races together (which he was). Many think he was drafted into the Army with the goal of killing his career.
He almost had to be forced to go on. Elvis had changed his mind and didn't want to go through with it. But he was told by director Steve Binder that there was an audience out there waiting for him. And that he couldn't let them down. "But what if I freeze up? What if I can't think of anything to say?" Binder told him "but you are going out there." (summary from page 312 of "Careless love" by Peter Guralnick)
I was 7 years old when I first saw Elvis Presley on TV. Now, my father, who was a Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald fan, positively hated Elvis and hated Rock 'n' Roll in general. On that particular day, when I first saw Elvis on TV, I remember thinking how cool he looked with his hair, his leather jacket, and the rebellious glint in his eye - and I pointed at the TV and asked my Dad, "Who's that?" My father told me it was Elvis Presley. Then I said, "That's what I want to be when I grow up." And my Dad cupped his face in his hands and said, "Oh shit."
Elvis was drafted. He served 1958 to 1960. Spent much of his time inGermany.
Elvis always enjoyed himself and the people ate it up

Elvis Presley live concert 1977. We'll worth watching
Listen to the original studio version from 56. So earthy and greasy. That recording was what made me love Elvis.

Wowoo wowoo this Elvis Presley is really mazing fantastique américain artist
This was in 1968. Elvis melted many of hearts in that black leather outfit.

I got a t-shirt with him wearing that black leather outfit...

Elvis served in Germany. There was no conflict at the time, but his mom worried herself to death. Literally. She died while he was still there.
Understandably. I mean when one thinks of Germany back in the day they think of war and Nazi Germany. And she lost her first born, and her mother 4 months after hos death, with Elvis being the only survivor. She had a right to be worried, poor thing.
Elvis liked to sit around with his fellow musicians and play around. One of his producers wanted to catch that on stage for his fans.

How comfortable must an entertainer be, of his caliber, to just giggle, laugh, and goof off... and not a SOUL complained.....
Believe it or not, Elvis had to be talked into walking out onto this stage. He hadn't performed live in almost 10 years and was fearful fans wouldn't like him. Thankfully Steve Binder coaxed him...and the rest is history.
There are so many documentaries about Elvis. Not much you can’t learn. He was the epitome of cool.
He was known to always joke around. He had the charisma in everything he did
A young Keith Richards had never heard anything like this.
It was a true inspiration to him.
Happy Birthday Keith. (78 years old)

This is from his 68 come back special. This is after his acting contract was over and he could sing on his own again.
*Most singers of today can't do stuff like this....unlike the one & only King of Rock & Roll Elvis*
The KING!!

And besides all of that he was karate black belt believe it or not! Elvis got it all man. He used to make every man jelous...and admirer...

What a funny guy Elvis was. He could joke around and nobody cared! 😀 Pure class, coolness to the core. Love your reactions. From South Africa. 👍
