It was the American book publisher who changed to Sourcerer's Stone. They reconned American kids wouldn't wanna read a book with Philosopher in the title.
You are watching the extended version. The egg scene wasn't in the theatrical release. Wizarding World is Universal Studios. The book for a little light reading was their screen test to see if there was chemistry between them. Those 10 points were the only points Nevel got all year.
Hagrid was expelled from Hogwarts, but Dumbledore allowed him to live on the grounds and be the keeper of keys and grounds. They broke his wand when he was expelled. He tried to mend it and keeps it in his umbrella. He is not allowed to use magic but was given permission while getting Harry.
New subscriber here. Hogwarts is actually a castle in Scotland, not a set. Alnwick castle in Northumberland. The train and the route can be ridden to the Castle. Except for the middle of winter. I was born & raised in the UK but live in the USA now.
wands help harness & direct magic. unless you're well trained then wand-less magic is a lot harder & unpredictable. iirc in the books Harry only does it unintentionally when feeling intense emotion.
*_Clearly, Hermione knows. Seems a pity not to ask her._* - pretty sure this is one of the very few moments where we get to see Harry's sassiness. In the movies it's much more toned down, he's a savage in the books though.
RIP Maggie Smith aka Professor McGonagall 😢 I loved the discussion. I laughed so hard because I feel like Erika explained it all but explained nothing but it all still made complete sense. 😂 It is kind of hard to explain without giving spoilers. I did like “Laws of Magic” as the best explanation. In a way, they live the same lives as Muggles just with a sprinkle of special. There would have to be laws or the Magic world would be in chaos. But, it also sounded like Phil felt Harry needed an on-screen explanation? 😂 I can’t wait to see if Phil gets his explanation(s) later which I think he will. 😊
Wandless magic is a thing in the harry potter world but it's not easy to do, all wizard/witch children do some magic though usually accidently, that's when the schools quell of acceptance writes their name down to be admitted to hogwarts at 11.
🍗 You can't conjure food out of thin air. That's established in one of the books. 💰You're probably not allowed to conjure money, or copy one galleon into 100 galleons. That would be causing inflation in that world too. 🧠 I believe it's Hermione saying in the first book that logic is not that common among wizards, so that might be one explanation to some of the Why's you have. Then again, there are pure plotholes too, but they aren't more than I can live with them. 😛 And most of the plotholes are in the movies only. Not all, but most of them.
a lot of the "rules" of magic, don't actually make sense though. There's no reason why you couldn't conjure food when you can conjure animals. The animals that can be conjured aren't technically alive, because another limitation described in Gamp's Law is that life can not be conjured, but otherwise the animals that can be conjured are identical to real animals in every physical way. If that's true, why couldn't you just conjure food? Also, it is established that you CAN multiply existing food. And it's also established that when things are multiplied that they come from the same "non-being" that things that are conjured come from. So it's definitely an inconsistency in the lore. I think it's basically just because Rowling wanted to make sure there was still poverty and socio economic classes in the wizarding world, and if you could solve scarcity with magic, those things wouldn't exist.@@PhilipManzano
@@ezradanger Probably, since the Wizarding world is pretty much like our world- but with magic. If Anything was possible there would be a Utopia. Not that interesting to read about.
Hagrid's father was a wizard. Hiis mother was a giantess. Don't ask me how *that* worked. 😂 Anyway Hagrid still has the pieces of his wand in his pink umbrella even though he's not supposed to use magic. No Rowling was not on set during filming. She came in occasionally to see things they wanted her advice on since she was still writing the books. The last book didn't come out til 2007.
There were funds for students who couldn't afford to buy all these things on the list. They might have to buy some things second hand, but they would be able to join Hogwarts no matter the household economy.
Ron's wish in front of that mirror may seem shallow, but he has all these brothers, (five) headboys, prefects, or really fun and sporty. And a little sister. Now he's bestie with the most famous boy, and the most intelligent girl in the wizarding world. He wanna shine, just for once! Be the best of them. Not the one people don't even say "Hi!" to. (It's too often Hi Harry!) Not the one no one ever notice. Mum never remember he doesn't like corned beef, nor the color maroon which happens to be the color on most of his clothes.
Exactly. And on top of it all even the filmmakers robbed him of the little moments showing his intellect, and gave all the credit to Hermione. (Eg the Troll incident, and Devil's Snare after getting past Fluffy.) I'm surprised they let him remain the chess master, and not made him 100% gormless.
I had very young children when this movie came out, so hadn't heard anything about it or the books. On a whim, Spouse took me to see this film. 15:48 was the moment I fell in love with this universe. From that moment on, I was all in.
I'll never understand anyone that calls Harry a nepo baby or "favored" by professors. I think what the trio did was well worthy of the points, especially since they lost 150 because of ratboy Malfoy... who didn't get any points taken for doing the same action. They saved the school for the first of many times... they earned those points ffs.
So the wand less magic seems to be fear or anger based. Harry ending up on the school roof to avoid bullies. His hair growing back. But in Order of the Phoenix Harry does "lumos" when his wand is feet away because of the dementors. It doesn't stop. James was an only child from a very wealthy family. Harry suddenly has no money trouble. Having had nothing, he is generous.
the movies don't really go into it but yes the food at hogwarts is cooked in the kitchens & magically sent to the great hall the labor involved is uhhh a bit controversial (don't wanna say more bc it might be a spoiler?)
So Phil's villan arc confirmed? Lol 😂 I loved Phil's comment and questions and logic 🤣. Also loved Erika's knowledge and informing Phil haha 🎉 pray we get all 8 movie reactions from y'all. ALSO Happy Halloween 🎃. 🎉
Watching the beginning scene is too sad now, all 3 legends are gone😢 I don't know why that comment about Dumbledore made me think about mean girls lol. "So he's like a really powerful wizard?" vs "So you're like really pretty?" 😂
I always thought that the reason the magic world does not mirror the non-magic world in structure/economy etc. is because the magic world has different requirements, and is inherently incompatible with the non-magic one. For example, the magic world has little to no technology, and that is because they have basically no need for things like cell phones -there is probably a spell or 12 that can accomplish it - or you can just teleport. The magic world places value in other things compared to the non-magic world - magicians have little need for oil for example. Magical criminals are waay more dangerous that their non-magic counterparts, hence the need for special rules for magicians, and seeing as the magic users need to follow special rules they tend to stick to their own kind, and rarely interact with the non-magic world. The Muggles are basically like aliens to wizards.
Getting to 150 points does not end the game. A team can catch the snitch and still lose if the opposing team has 160 or more points. Some games have gone on for weeks with nobody catching the snitch. One thing I've never read in the books is what happens if the game ends with the score tied?
Are you new to reaction channels? You don't think it would be more boring if they just sat there in silence? Just go watch the movie by yourself if that's what you want.

Whoever gets to 150 points wins the game or the seeker can catch the snitch, which is an immediate victory.

Catching the Snitch ends the game. It does not mean that you necessarily win, though. If the other team is ahead on points, you will still lose.
