I love my r8.... Maintenece is something to consider. My motor mount failed and cost 7000 to replace. Cats collapsed and cost 3000 to hollow out. Fuel pumps went out and cost 2500 Tires cost 1000 a year With that said the r8 is an albatross around my neck, which i will not sell.
Great video, Sam! Now, go drive a V10 manual. I do love the deep, throaty sound of the V8, but the V10 scream plus the extra 100+hp elevates the experience tenfold! I speak from experience as the proud owner of one. 😎
Still a head turner nowadays. Even youngsters rush to their mobiles to memorize this incredible car. The manual is the way to go and is on top a very reliable gearbox. The sensation you get out of this is so impressive. Will probably not change it to a V10.
They're still fast, its just that these days its so easy to buy a BMW and remap it to have over 420bhp. Racing aside the R8 is probably still a nicer car to drive than most
Sam: Just beware - I beat one of these in my "Pos 370z" 3x on a roll from 30-100mph... about 1-1.5 car lengths ahead. Why? Gearing - The 370z 2nd and 3rd gear in the automatic are very close, so, it just works... Would I "rather" have the Audi? Yeah! But - "Come on maaaaaaan" Guy paid $60k for a 2016, and it had an exhaust and a tune, and he lost to a "Pos 370z" (That's "maybe" worth $15k "at best" lol). - We ended up pulling over and talking for an hour about cars, so it's all good, but I had to prove that my Z just had intakes and exhaust - no tune. Anyone in the market for a V8 R8 - I would strongly suggest having extra $ set aside for a supercharger kit, or just wait/save more and find one with the V10. And I "get it" I LOVE the R8 - I love the sound of the V8, especially with an exhaust. But - Go pull up quarter mile times - we're talking mid to high 12's. Think about what sorts of cars already run those or better numbers for much less cost. Personally If I wanted a V8 for cheap, I'd probably go C6 as the best value option out there right now - and just live with the fact that it's "just" a Vette.
Nobody cares if you “beat” it from a highway roll lol. It’s a gated manual, hi revving, mid engine V8, daily drivable luxury car. Speed isn’t the point, it’s about the engagement, sensory feedback, and driving experience
You are correct, frame cracks on 2008-2010 is a known problem. Late 2010-2015 Audi fixed it by reinforcing certain areas on the frame to prevent the cracking. It’s not extremely common but definitely is a known issue
great video men. and is more like lamborghini cousin. but dumb @$$ call it a poor lambo. but the audi is more better in the interior & the lambo is more basic interior really.
The only one I'd buy just because of the Manny tranny. I hate automatic transmissions.....dual clutch or otherwise. The v10 sounds faaaantastic and is quicker, , but no manual.....borrrring!
@@KN-jw7ts it really does, I didn't say I want it to have 1000hp, what I meant is that it needs a little boost to be at least as fast as the v10 model, I like the R8, but I don't like seeing it embarrassingly lose to a modern stock hot family hatchback, and this is my opinion. Also I hate electric cars.

RS engine is 4.2 but does not have a dry sump, where the R8 does. There are a LOT of differences.

370z 1/4 mile is 13.1 and 0-60 in 5 seconds. Both of those times are slower than the v8 r8
