  • Armature reaction in alternator/synchronous generator/synchronous machine explained in Hindi with animation. Armature reaction in alternator is very important phenomenon. The initial phase of the video discuss what is armature reaction in synchronous machine and then it discusses what are the factors on which armature reaction of alternator depends. There are basically three case which affects armature reaction of alternator or armature reaction of synchronous generator or you can even say armature reaction of synchronous machine.
    Then after the effect of three conditions i.e unity power factor, zero lagging power factor and zero leading power factor on main flux were discussed. The armature reaction of synchronous machine or armature reaction of alternator explained with the help of vector diagram, graphical representation and animation. All three condition of armature reaction for unity power factor, armature reaction of alternator for zero lagging power factor or armature reaction of alternator for lagging power factor, armature reaction for zero leading power factor or armature reaction of alternator for leading power factor. at the end a summary is presented showing effect of all three conditions. The final section of armature reaction in alternator presents question for you in which one question is asked and that question is "When a large induction motor is connected to synchronous generator what will be the effect on armature reaction ?"
    This video is very useful for the person who has questions like

    If we connect large IM as a load to the O/P of Synchronous Motor, As Induction motor is Inductive load hence the armature stator flux will oppose the main field flux so the main flux decreases and the produced resultant flux is also low So the Demagnetizing effect will produced which decrease the output terminal voltage.

    Dear sir !
    Please clarify!
    In an alternator , as per Faraday's law, the armature conductor will experience voltage only after the rotor pole crosses 90 degree from facing the armature conductor. The current can flow through the conductor only after voltage initiated. Once the current flow happens the armature flux will happen as per right hand thumb rule. Then how the armature flux will react with the main flux of the rotor pole which is 90 degree away from the armature flux?

    As the induction motor is an inductive load, the armature reaction will be demagnetising to the main field .

    Brother why in lagging pf stator conductor are lagged wrt rotor pole..and not in unity pf as shown here.plz respond..

      Because of inductive load its starts lagging behind. At pure resistive load they are aligned but as inductive load starts increasing current starts lagging and so this happens

    dear sir, i have a doubt in lagging and leading load when we study in linear form .
    doubt is that , direction of current in conductor of stator . there is two magnetic field on stator conductor and both has different direction.

      the direction of current depends upon when will the conductor pass through N pole Under N pole the direction of current is inward ,Now for leading pf the armature (In inductor the current lagg behind voltage by 90 degrees ) so the N pole should be Electrically 90 degree leading that conductor to induce maximum current.

    If I am not wrong, I think you have applied the Fleming rule in wrong way. You used your right hand instead of left hand in finding it so. Kindly correct me if I am wrong....

      @@LearningVibes ay be like that but the direction of current you have used is in the opposite direction as I used Fleming left hand rule or ight hand Palm rule and this reverses all of the things.

    Ans: A motor serves as an inductive load, and if i am not wrong the resulting flux will be demagnetizing due to reverse magnetic field effect between armature conductors and rotor poles
