I think the problem is that generally, people over-value honesty; they believe that the truth is inherently valuable simply because it’s ‘the truth’ and therefore telling the truth no matter the circumstance is its own form of righteousness . I disagree; for me the truth has to be useful or helpful within the given context for it to actually be valuable. The reality is that some things are better left unsaid and and pinpointing the physical attributes you dislike in a stranger (spouse or not) does nothing to advance the relationship - all it does is make them feel rejected and defensive. Moreover, if physical attraction is important to you, why come to a show like MAFS anyway?

Most men have types. I learned this from a neighbor's son. He asked us, a group of ladies what was our type. We listed personality and fiscal responsibility. He asked as again. We were confused until he asked our physical type. He told us all men have types. They may not tell you their types, but they have them. After this I started scoping men out. Is it was possible, I would compare their last to or three girl friends. And 9 times out of ten, they had similar looks. I really didn't have to far, because I knew my brother's type. At the time, I didn't know it was common in men. This can also be truevwit h women. But it is not as common.

I think another reason why Chip hurt Joanna so bad is because she said her red head comment directly to him first, THEN she brought it to the group. Chip completely blindsided Joanna by making his preferences and lack of attraction known to the group first before Joanna had any idea of it. I think that having been frequently around groups of white women and black women- in my close friends and family groups- white women- in MY experience, not trying to generalize- have a very very sensitive relationship to weight/body. White supremacy elevates thin female bodies and while that definitely affects all women, what I’ve experienced in the black community is much more of an openness and acceptance of all types of bodies. Just like you said Jaz, people share what they like and respect that others like other things. But in the white community- calling out a woman’s body as anything OTHER than slim/fit/small - is like #1 worst insult ever. Even if that persons body isn’t thin/fit/small. Calling a body ANYTHING else (even if it’s a true description) is insulting. Again, in my experience. It's not just a hair color. Ginger refers to people with red hair, very pale skin and freckles. They used to treat them badly in the olden days, hell even 20 years ago they got bullied badly when I was in school.

I think that having been frequently around groups of white women and black women- in my close friends and family groups- white women- in MY experience, not trying to generalize- have a very very sensitive relationship to weight/body. White supremacy elevates thin female bodies and while that definitely affects all women, what I’ve experienced in the black community is much more of an openness and acceptance of all types of bodies. Just like you said Jaz, people share what they like and respect that others like other things.
