Just want to recommend a book similar to the one ally described called all the living and the dead by hayley campbell. It is super informative and interesting but written in a very casual tone. She basically interviews loads of people involved in the death industry to try and understand and dismatly the taboo culture surrounding death. That includes embalmers (discusses if its intrusive and violent or actually a peaceful procedure that allows solace for family members), funeral home owners and even a guy who worked on death row in the US administering the toxic injections. also discusses the psychological pros and cons of seeing people who have passed (embalmed or not), just seems like you would really enjoy it. I am only halfway through but so far I would highly recommend :)
