But it is still a VERY weird collab and it fits your observation of brands doing neutrals with some blue for the holidays! And I agree that Viseart palette is amazing. So is the soon-to-be released Ensley Reign palette full of “spicy neutrals.”

NFN, the Valentino Spike lipsticks are the most comforting matte formula. I’m a matte devotee when I’m not in a cozy balm. The Spikes feel like a luxurious cream to apply and have incredible longevity while staying so soft. I have a piercing in the center of my lip and they never get on it, don’t bleed, and survive cocktails. 🙌🏼

I love the darkest shade of the Olehenriksen balm! I have medium olive skin and light pink lips so lip colors tend to look brighter on me than I would like. This one is truly a subtle reddish brown.
Your story in Insta alerted me to the Necessaries sale - even though I am a customer I hadn't seen anything from them. Here to say I think you did a GREAT job with the video for this. And I JUMPED on the sale as I also think they make great gifts for the people who are hardest to buy for - old people can ALWAYS just lotion. Also they have unscented for those who are scent sensitive. Super excited about the larger pump bottle too and hoping they continue with their refillable program as well.
I started using the unscented Necessaire body wash over a year ago and LOVED it, and when I saw there was a Hinoki scent a few months ago I had to try it. I looooooooooove it, easily the best body wash I've ever used. the thick gel texture is so satisfying and the scent is gorgeous
I have tried my 1st Makeup by Mario product! Just this week I tried a lipstick I bought during to VIB sale. I was really impressed with packaging which from pictures looks so basic. Heavy black matte, with nice magnetic top. Formula was nice too! Necessaire also has amazing bar soap that is great for people with KP.
Hannah, you HAVE to get in on the lip stain train. The technology has come a looooong way, especially in the k beauty space, but even Rare has a pretty brown shade in their line (they are called lip oils, but they are actually glossy lip stains)

Thoughts on the lack of “Holiday’ness and these weird IP collabs: could this be the result of large corporations downsizing their staff, esp on creative teams? To me as an outsider, it seems like taking the thumbnail/cover of a holiday film and basing a palette on it is an easy out that doesn’t require the kind of thought or industry coordination and analysis that a more considered palette might. (I used to work in merchandising in a creative industry, so believe me when I say I know what it takes to put together a considered collection for holiday.)

I have all the shades & textures I like to wear already so unless I'm really eager to try a new or more luxury brand, not too much tempts me. I will say that Viseart palette caught my eye. I have a couple of their entedu palettes & really like them. This one looks beautiful & a little cooler than the neutrals I usually wear. Don't need it & there will be sales later if I decide I want it.

Thinking about trends, I'm honestly not super surprised that there are glosses. Asian beauty has boomed recently, and the "I am cold" look is trendy. That typically leans towards a more matte/natural base, lots of blush (especially on the nose), and a more pigmented glossy lip.
Inspired by your comments I did some google for the old school French counter brands; YSL, Chanel, Doir, Lancôme, Givenchy; Guerlain. There is a consistency of the magenta / pink across those brands but that’s the only loose connection I can find for a holiday colour story. Doing a broader search using Cult Beauty (akin to Sephora in terms of offering) I see two further loose trends. A statement blue and then golds / browns / neutrals with a note to a warm copper. There is definitely a consistency with a sparkle / glitter offering but nothing specifically consistent.
If you’re looking for a brown lip stain, you might really like the sacheu lip liner stains! They’re technically marketed as lip liners but it’s just a narrow doe foot applicator so it’s easy to apply all over as well. The only caveat about them is that they’re a peel off stain, so you have to let them dry down and then peel them off and that means you don’t get the initial glossy finish like a kbeauty lip stain. But in my opinion that might be preferable because you can just put whatever glossy product you love over it instead of relying on the texture and finish of the stain, which in my experience isn’t as shiny and thick as I’d like it to be. They have a really nice line of neutral pinks and browns and they’re sold at ulta, if you’re interested :)
Ive started operating under a 1 out, 1 in policy with my makeup. Ill only buy something new once ive used say a lipstick up completely. I feel a lot better for it.
Yes. The palette itself is not interesting enough for me to get it but... Inky, Pinky, Blinky etc are incapsulated in a water case and they move! Such a collecter's item. Sooo tempting. Note that the highlighter has just normal case.
I don't think Makeup by Mario Etheral Eyes: Moonlight is a holiday palette. I bought it a month or two ago when it first released and while it's gorgeous, it's really just a cool/neutral version of Ethereal Eyes. I love it, though. But I doubt it was intended to be a holiday palette.

I’ll be 40 in a couple weeks and I’ve been into makeup since I was 3 and my mother sold MaryKay. I have a huge makeup collection, including the OG subculture palette. The makeup by Mario palette is the ONLY palette I’ve ever returned for performance. It is horrendous. It doesn’t blend well, the lasting power is non-existent, and there is so much fall-out. It was $94 CDN and I replaced it with a $22 Morphe palette for the super cool tones I needed.
Viseart palettes are stunning but why I see that blue shift duo chrome shade in almost every palette of their..? I had small „Solstice” palette in the past and I HAD that blue shift shade there. I swear it’s like their staple shade 😂

I honestly love the colourpop palette because it reminds me of Barbie swan lake. Maybe it’s not Christmas but to me it has always screamed Christmas.

There is a consistency of the magenta / pink across those brands but that’s the only loose connection I can find for a holiday colour story. Doing a broader search using Cult Beauty (akin to Sephora in terms of offering) I see two further loose trends. A statement blue and then golds / browns / neutrals with a note to a warm copper. There is definitely a consistency with a sparkle / glitter offering but nothing specifically consistent.
If you’re looking for a brown lip stain, you might really like the sacheu lip liner stains! They’re technically marketed as lip liners but it’s just a narrow doe foot applicator so it’s easy to apply all over as well. The only caveat about them is that they’re a peel off stain, so you have to let them dry down and then peel them off and that means you don’t get the initial glossy finish like a kbeauty lip stain. But in my opinion that might be preferable because you can just put whatever glossy product you love over it instead of relying on the texture and finish of the stain, which in my experience isn’t as shiny and thick as I’d like it to be. They have a really nice line of neutral pinks and browns and they’re sold at ulta, if you’re interested :)
Ive started operating under a 1 out, 1 in policy with my makeup. Ill only buy something new once ive used say a lipstick up completely. I feel a lot better for it.
Naturium has a Cafe Collection of lip balms that have a vanilla scent. I haven't tried those colours but the formula is really nice.
If I were the one rebranding that ColourPop winter palette, I would surely name it "Crystalline Entity".
Oooh I would probably buy it with that name. As it stands, I’m unlikely to reach for a palette with Frosty the Snowman on the cover.

Yes. The palette itself is not interesting enough for me to get it but... Inky, Pinky, Blinky etc are incapsulated in a water case and they move! Such a collecter's item. Sooo tempting. Note that the highlighter has just normal case.

I don't think Makeup by Mario Etheral Eyes: Moonlight is a holiday palette. I bought it a month or two ago when it first released and while it's gorgeous, it's really just a cool/neutral version of Ethereal Eyes. I love it, though. But I doubt it was intended to be a holiday palette.

I’ll be 40 in a couple weeks and I’ve been into makeup since I was 3 and my mother sold MaryKay. I have a huge makeup collection, including the OG subculture palette.
The makeup by Mario palette is the ONLY palette I’ve ever returned for performance. It is horrendous. It doesn’t blend well, the lasting power is non-existent, and there is so much fall-out. It was $94 CDN and I replaced it with a $22 Morphe palette for the super cool tones I needed.
Viseart palettes are stunning but why I see that blue shift duo chrome shade in almost every palette of their..? I had small „Solstice” palette in the past and I HAD that blue shift shade there. I swear it’s like their staple shade 😂

Hannah, you should try dinto lip tints. It's a korean indie brand and they have these beautiful muted colours as opposed to the bright tints that most kbeauty brands come out with
