I always wondered WHY People were bothered by Tom & Jerry talking in the Movie. They also talked sometimes in the original Cartoons as well. Tom even was singing in one Episode (like how it's showed in the Video).

    • @GavinsBazaar313
      @GavinsBazaar313 Год назад +5

@@EscalationTV It was more due to the fact in the cartoons, it was played off as a joke, and was spontanuous, hence why they barely talked. That was the joke. Also the person in the video litterarlly even says so too, the clip you saw, she said herself is one of the rare instances they talk in the show.
Whilst I didn't like the 2021 film (not cus they didn't talk, I liked that a lot), I do respect Warner Brothers for admiting that yeah, them not talking was recieved better by the public, and for good reason.

When I was a kid, I watched this movie all the time. Whenever Robyn sang her song though, I would always cry… every single time despite not even relating to her situation. It’s been years since I’ve seen this movie and since then my father has passed away. If I were to watch it again, I don’t know if I could even handle the song now. I always loved this movie and was utterly baffled when I found out later that apparently a lot of people didn’t like it. I wish everyday I could have my father back, but pieces of media like this remind me of him, just the little clips you showed took me back to a time when he was alive, and I can’t separate those emotions and connections from this movie. Like you said, art is subjective, and even silly movies like this remind me of someone I miss deeply. I should totally give it another watch some time. Great video btw, I’ve recently discovered your content and I love your work :)

Wow. This is literally the best defense coverage I ever seen of this movie. It has it’s weakness, but it’s not an awful bad movie. I mean this is the most justice review I seen of this movie. I was honestly surprised how much people hated it, and how under appreciated some moments was. Especially when you look at the much worse direct to DVD ones. And it’s a hell of a lot better then the 2021 movie. I’m also glad there was a relatable element with Robyn that resonated with you. People ignore the heart of the story. And I never disliked her character. Especially when you have leading characters in a T&J movie that are downright unlikable. I believe this movie was there first attempt to make a comeback since the original classics.

Like in the beginning of the movie when Tom’s house is being destroyed, he goes back and get Jerry. He doesn’t like Jerry, but he doesn’t want him to die. Or at the end of the movie. After their whole journey and learning about friendship. They go right back from where they started. And the fact that they smiled, shows they like this

I was just talking to my sister about how underrated this movie was last night and she agreed. So funny seeing this in my feed now. It still holds up today I love the choices for Tom and Jerry's voices exactly as I thought they would be when I was a kid. I always wondered why this is really the only time they got to talk. I saw the same criticism and I thought what a odd thing and they did it before in WB animation and nobody said anything. Wile E Coyote in the bugs bunny shorts talked but in the original they didn't. And I don't think him talking took away from the comedy it added to it. Infact I prefer that version of Wile E Coyote. I felt like their friendship was justified it's not like they started out the movie being best pals. And I connected with the Robin character too as a kid. She's so likeable as a character. This is one of my top childhood movies.

    • @Luke-3281
      @Luke-3281 Год назад +5

Well, the difference between Tom and Jerry and the Coyote is that Tom and Jerry, while they can definitely talk, they just don't need to do it. Their silence doesn’t come from an inability to produce sound, they just believe action over words, whereas the Coyote rarely speaks after his father told him not to until he catches a roadrunner.

I personally don't like the film (I think the plot/execution doesn't fit Tom & Jerry, yes I'm not a fan of them talking but I like the VAs), but I keep finding more and more people (including my own fiancé) who enjoy the film. That's fine and I think works (even critically hated ones) should be re-evaluated and if people love those films-I think that's great. I mean, I genuinely love Showgirls so it's not like critically negative reviewed films can't find a fanbase.
I've always had a theory that the ideal Tom and Jerry feature film is them just doing the normal slapstic routine in a home while their owners are away, but the damage they cause to the house remains and eventually the house is destroyed: so they have to put aside their differences to rebuild the home before the family comes back.

I think it’s interesting hearing positive opinions on this movie and what people find enjoyable about it. I personally don’t like this movie but I can respect the people who do and can construct a critical analysis about it in a positive light. I personally just never thought of the movie as a Tom and Jerry adaptation, I personally think the live action movie did a better job adapting the cartoon shorts but even that film has its own problems.

I just watched this video again, and idk something about this and the looney tunes back in action video really speak to me. So much of the media I consumed and really enjoyed for a long time are things that people think is "objectively bad." But it doesn't have to be that way. We can try to see the good in things before we see the bad, and though I've never watched this movie before I'm glad I got to hear your thoughts on it before hearing anything else about it. I can tell that it's something that you care about, and I think that should be enough.
Alright I think I'm rambling but I do want to say I can't imagine how that experience of your dad missing must've been and I'm sorry you had to go through that. However, I'm glad that you had this movie and it was able to resonate with and help you at such a difficult time.

My cousins had this movie on VHS. I watched it, and I really liked it! Maybe it's because I generally found the original cartoons pretty samey and boring? My favorite ones were always the ones with Jerry's little grey nephew (who, coincidentally, usually spoke).
This story felt big, with pretty serious stakes. It still had fun T&J slapstick, but also some fun and/or sinister wacky side characters. The evil little sausage dog was one of my faves. Specifically, the movie was full of duos: the dog and flea, Cap Kidd and his parrot puppet, and Aunt Fig and her lawyer lackey. Each gives Tom and Jerry examples of the kind of relationship they could have going forward.
I love that by the end they were closer as friends, but not 100% buddy-buddy. I definitely heard people hated this movie as a kid, but thanks Kiki for giving it some love!!

I love this movie. People complain that they talk but, really, what does that matter? I didn't enjoy Tom and Jerry because they didn't talk, I enjoyed it for the slapstick, and there's plenty of that in this movie - both Tom and Jerry fighting each other, and them working together against some other character, and even when they're working together they still take the ocassional jab at each other XD And all of the slapstick is good. They manage to work them into the story perfectly so that it never feels forced or disconnected.
In my eyes, the whole 'silent duo' thing works fine for the shorter episodes, but for an entire movie there needs to be something more to justify its length. The story was fun and had a lot of heart, Robin was a good character, and the songs were great, to the point I sometimes get them stuck in my head whenever I remember this film. And at the end of the movie, the very last scene shows them going back to their typical cat and mouse behaviour from the episodes, showing that the two becoming friends was just for this movie, and then it was back to the usual formula.

I completely forgot about this movie until you it's revealed that they talk. I remember my first time seeing it was back on TV. Funnily enough, it was the scene where it's revealed that they talk. As someone with an Unga bunga, "me like funny cat and mouse violence" brain, I didn't like it. I changed the channel to see what was on either Disney or Nick. I should give it another watch now that I'm older. Amazing video.

I very rarely hop on to comment anything, but I caught your reviews of this and Looney Tunes Back in Action and felt absolutely compelled to comment lol. I had this movie on VHS as a kid myself, and watched it so many times that I actually ended up breaking the tape out of sheer use haha. And despite growing up and recognizing the many flaws this movie has, it continues to be a guilty pleasure of mine, and honestly I wish the soundtrack was available somewhere to buy, the Henry Mancini score is enough to keep me happily invested by itself.
All this to say, well done, and high kudos for giving this movie some real love and respect, and not going the meme-y nostalgia critic angle of screeching about how unorthodox it is for Tom and Jerry to talk. Hope you have a good one and I look forward to many more under appreciated movies getting the love they deserve :)

My dad was also super distant growing up but through tom and jerry he always wanted to spend time with me to watch a show, and to be able to relate to my dad in some way and spend time with him was something I treasured. This movie, on top of it being differently good, will always be a reminder of my tenacity and also my love for my dad~

I never really watched the whole movie, but one of my random yet stronger childhood memories is watching part of it on a VCR in a cafeteria full of kids in the late-90s. The part I caught is when Tom and Jerry first talked and the cafeteria got louder and more excited once that happened, for me it just blew my mind and I wanted to see more of it. Maybe the critics who grew up on Tom and Jerry 20-50 years before this movie came out hated the idea of them talking and that's perfectly understandable, but I can imagine people who were kids when this movie first came out might've had a different opinion.

Actually there was a weird period from the 60s to the 80s where Tom and Jerry were usually friends, but those didn't have them talking.
I have to agree with you about the classic chase formula not working for a movie format--the later film Tom and Jerry and the Magic Ring tried exactly that and it was tedious to watch.
That said, last time I rewatched this movie I recall having mixed feelings, particularly an element you mentioned--how every adult turns on Robyn on a dime. To me that came off as a little mean-spirited.

This movie isn't perfect; i didn't really care about Aunt figg and her dog BUT the animation is good, the other songs are catchy, Robyn is likable and brave 😃Also, the slapstick is better than the one in their live-action movie, same for the humans. None of them are boring unlike the blonde girl and the hotel manager. Heck i can't remember their names or their dreams, they are THAT forgettable.

It also generated a lot of memes in today’s climate of communication. This movie, like alot of media, is something I feel people tend to appreciate more in retrospect. At the time, a Tom and Jerry movie where the duo talked was probably not what people wanted or expected. Nowadays there are many T&J movies to choose from that do the slapstick routine. This first film really stands out by taking a different approach.

In my opinion, Tom and Jerry don't work in a cinematic setting because it's a literal cat and mouse schtick. To stretch it out 90 minutes, you need to give the characters or setting more depth. My unpopular opinion is I'm totally fine with Tom and Jerry talking if it develops their characters in a cinematic setting. Just please don't make them sing.

    30 years old!
Still one of my favorite childhood flicks, such nostalgia for it
Let's face it it's impossible to have these characters have any personality since they don't utter a single word
So it does make a bit easier on younger viewers to see both their points of view
Yes I know this was reviled by critics and even hardcore fans but it stuck with me on a certain level and Roman’s heart is in the right place since a movie was in development since the 1970s
The movie is filled with all the traditional slapstick animation, dozens of new songs by Henry Mancini, and some pretty choice voice actors including the late Charlotte Rae, the late Tony Jay, Dana Hill, Richard Kind, and Andi McAfee
The music emulates the classic Hollywood musicals of 1950s
My favorite number is actually Do I Miss You because it signifies how much Robyn misses her father willing to go the distance to be reunited with him
Henry Mancini does compose a very good score too
Okay not all the songs work and some side characters could be cut out since it is titled Tom & Jerry who have to put aside their differences
Clearly this movie was made to catch up with the Disney renaissance since it was dominating that era
So I don't hate this movie one bit, but I do understand how fans of the old show wouldn't sit right with it
I suppose I'm just not a dedicated fan like most were back in the day
This is very short, has good animation reminiscent of the old cartoon shorts, and will keep the younger viewers entertained giving a simple lesson on learning to work together; it's more beneficial than being confrontational
If anything you can look at it as an alternate universe if you're not too much of a passionate fan of Tom & Jerry

I agree with the basic sentiment of "a Tom & Jerry adaptation will have to make changes in order to work in a theatrical film format", but my main hangup with this film is that none of the changes elevate what already made the characters unique. Instead, they take away from it. The duo rarely fight past the opening 10 minutes, they talk constantly (which they did in multiple shorts but only for the sake of a gag) and virtually none of the supporting cast from the shorts appear. If you wanna make a feature T&J film, why place the characters in a plot from what feels like a second-rate Disney knockoff if you have Spike, Nibbles, all of the alley cats, or hell, ANY of the Tex Avery characters you could utilize (something the DTV films got right somehow). I just can't get behind a film so keen on removing everything that made the characters unique to begin with.

I also watched and enjoyed this movie a lot as kid and while it’s definitely in no way a cinematic masterpiece I still see good in it. I mean even as a kid I could very much see the film’s flaws but I could also see the potential for a good story. Heck the movie in my opinion does have a good story to it but it just needs some tweaking here and there. The main theme I always got from it was these characters who suddenly find themselves homeless and have to learn to put aside their differences and work together to find a new place to belong and along the way helping someone with the same predicament.
Also I can’t be the only person who’s noticed that Tom and Jerry the movie as well as Disney’s The Rescuers and All Dogs go to Heaven all share the similar premise of these animal characters helping a young orphan girl escape her cruel, greedy captors right?
