    Great work from Jeff. Sometimes I think the media in this country feel its a taboo to report good things we do. Good milestones and achievements are pushed so far into news broadcasts or in middle pages because it doesn't sell. Kenyans have been condisioned to think their country is just failing. If a mganga says he made people eat grass it will be news headlines or if Raila visits Moi., or if Obado visits a hospital. Turkana wind project, one of the most efficient on earth, SGR first to double stack in Africa, largest BBC office outside UK e.t.c are not even mentioned

      Wind actually does the work of rotating the turbines just as water rotates the turbines where they are connected to the generator which uses the turning motion of the shaft to rotate a rotor which has oppositely charge magnets and is surrounded by copper wire loops. Electromagnetic induction is created by the rotor spinning around the inside of the core, generating electricity.

    • @Msapere
      @Msapere 6 лет назад +4

      True, but the power loss depends on distance and voltage level. That line is 400kV and is about 432km (268 miles). Transmission engineers generally start worrying about significant losses at about 643km (400miles) and above for 400kV lines. From experience I'd venture to say the losses on this line are less than 2%. Now if it was a 220kV line then the losses would be almost 4-5% which is unacceptable and above the approved limits

The penalty costs incurred on this project will hurt Kenyans for a long time to come. 300MW is maximum. 200MW is average. The Chinese contractors strung the HV line in 60 days. That means they were stringing on average 7km/day (of heavy conductor). Stop playing...

      you heard bad. The Chinese only did the transmission line after the spanish failed us. The windmills were from a european company and google has shares in it. And its not govt debt or project, its a private investment that built to get profit just like if you bought a matatu to make a profit.

      It is mainly a Danish project and other Nordic countries. The Spanish company was initially contracted to do the transmission lines but they filed for bankruptcy before the Chinese won the bid to replace them.

      +Kiswahili Kitukuzwe 254 china is the most populated country on earth. i feel they trick most poor countries into an overwhelming debts that they cannot repay, soon they'll start possessing these lands in pretense of their debt collection. look at malawi and Sri Lanka

      @@steveswakei9600 Stop blaming china for anything, its kenyan politicians who sign the deals and go all the way to china to take loans so blame them not china.
      Secondly without china we wouldnt have thika road and all those highways they are building all over the country most of which kenyan companies can only dream of contructing and also the sgr.
      China is great and i believe if we are sober and know what we want as a country they can help us achieve it,the problem comes when gok inflates the projects and makes stupid deisions then start blaming others

    We have the worst planners in KENYA . Why is the SGR not electrified ? If the same government knew that in the near future they would be producing such large amounts of kW in Turkana . 😭😭😭 I sometimes question those in power their strategic thinking & planning is disheartening. who constructs a diesel railway network and a mega wind power farm in the same economical season 🤨.

Its tax payers money, which it should be transparent and accountable.
