- Massive machines. This is the least we can say about the world’s heftiest mining excavators out there. Some of these beasts can weigh more than 800 tonnes, especially the models we have to show to you today. Meet the top seven biggest hydraulic mining excavators on the planet.

A little correction: The largest excavator was launched by O&K = Orenstein & Koppel manufacture, not Terex, built in the factory at Dortmund, Germany. Initially the machine was called „RH 400“ = Raupen Hydraulikbagger 400 = Crawler Hydraulic excavator. The first series, built to work in the highly abrasive Canadian oil quarries, weight about 900 metric tons depending on attachments and other equipment installed.
About 900 metric tons? You must be thinking of rh340. The smallest rh400 to have been produced was the original 11-35 that weighted 1090 tons and all the models after that were 1120 tons and over
The very first O&K RH400, Syncrude fleet number 11-35, started work in August 1997, it weighed 830 metric tonnes and carried a 42.5cu.m bucket. It was initially powered by a pair of Cummins K2000E engines producing 3350hp, which were soon upgraded when the QSK60 engines were released the following year. Subsequent models increased in weight and power and today the Caterpillar version, the 6090FS weighs in at around 1000 metric tonnes and has two Cummins QSK60 quad turbo 60 litre V16 engines producing 4500hp, it carries a 52cu.m bucket. Between 1997 and 2021, only 22 of these machines, both RH400 and 6090FS, have been built, the overwhelming majority going to the Canadian oilsands and also to Australia.

mchughcb unfortunately on bcms Liebherrs smoke them. I’ve worked for hitachi and you just can’t get a 8000 to perform like a 9800
When you see them next to a normal car there massive.
In 1992 I got to go in a coal mine. Their biggest shovel was 165 yarder. It burnt when filling the hydraulics one day. 110 yard was still in use. While we were there the mechanic showed up and literally parked his 4x4 pickup under the machine.

This video forgot so many machines which should have been in this list. Komatsu pc7000 and cat 6060 for example. Both weight over 600 tons when in face shovel versions

Number 4. The Demag Digger on the Video is not a H740 🙄 ..that is a H285 and it Weights about 300t.

@@benfairhall5331 because there is no public footage of any digger bigger than the h285s , someone once posted footage of h455 or h485 10 years ago but they werre taken down. I dont know what happened to the h740 but a h685 that burned in the oil sands was replaced by a pc5500
Your comment on the largest machine, the RH 400, is not entirely accurate. The RH 400 is not a Terex launch, but a O&K, an Orenstein und Koppel Design. It was built in Dortmund, Germany.

Excavator and Shovel just denote the bucket orientation. All of these machines can be outfitted with either a face shovel or excavator layout.
