  • This video is a brief introduction to the definition of 'inclusive education', as well as the definitions of 'integration', 'segregation' and 'exclusion'. As well, nine key requirements of inclusive education are discussed. These requirements are strong leadership, natural proportions, moving away from support by assistants, planning time, portable services, specialist teachers, the presumption of competence, collaboration and friendships.

Very good description based on actual experience, I think! Here is my take: I always say that a teacher of children with SEN is the best teacher for all children, because they know how to accommodate different needs in the social context, and really achieve on learning according to the child's needs.

This video does do a great job of breaking down and providing a much better understanding of what inclusive education is! I had no idea how bonkers it was? To group classes together based on basically nothing but age. To deliberately fill classrooms with students with varying abilities whether they're disabled or not? These students will not achieve their true potential.

Great explanation of what full inclusion is. Now we have to find ways to get there.

This is very interesting. But seriously how do you teach children with severe autism or learning disabilities without having to pull them out the classrooms for one on one??. However, to make inclusion more inclusive, teachers will need to get more education on how teach children with SEN which most teachers are not ready to do... The stigmatization is high at every side.

Maybe in an elementary class but try this in senior high school. Grades 10-12. … do you really want someone with severe autism in a chemistry with chemicals and flames from burners?

Behavioral inclusion is a big mistake..it puts other students at risk for physical harm and should be reversed.

Inclusive education is NOT all about placement. That is inclusion. Inclusion although part of inclusive education, is not the same as inclusive education. In lysine education is NOT all about students with disability. Inclusive education is about providing the necessary supports for ALL students and their learning. This video is focussed primarily on disability and ignores the various needs of all other students.
Planning time is necessary for ALL teachers who employ inclusive pedagogies. We always plan for diversity if we are an inclusive practitioner.
There are too many parts of this video that require challenging, specifically in regard to international research and practice.
