- THESE BEAUTIFULLY PRESERVED PETROGLYPHS ARE just north of Vernal, at McConkie Ranch in Dry Fork Canyon. These panels cover 200 feet along a cliff face in the Navajo formation. Possibly the climate during that period allowed for large trees to grow in the area. If bear drawings support my theory because bears tend to live in forested areas
There were large trees everywhere before humans cut them down and created deserts

Usually that helps distinguish male from female when looking at stick figures, but here it appears to be different. You will see several images of what appears to be the woman warrior with a wide line between her legs. She also has a short sword, so perhaps it represents a scabbard for her sword. Same for the male warrior, though he clearly has a long, broad sword. Perhaps a google search for Brewer's cave mummies will yield some interesting results...

Nice work filming these amazing petroglyphs and pictographs! They clearly tell an interesting story about some highly unusual beings that valued their jewelry, including wearing their best when battling their enemies. The "masks" seem to me to be severed heads with the dots representing blood, including that coming out of their eyes. One of the panels shows the king holding what appears to be a serpent-man by the throat. So many images here remind me of the king and queen giants found by John Brewer in a cave in Manti, Utah.

How does this rock formation form?
It depends on the composition of the rock. Often erosion takes all the softer stuff and leaves this behind. Geology is very interesting.
I live in Vernal and you didn't even contact me... I'm hurt. Well my opinion of the Head hunter relates to the legend of Hero twins of the Maya where Hun Hunahpu and Vuqub Hunpa are sacrificed and beheaded in the underworld. Then the daughter of a lord conceives the second set of twins after the head of Hun Hunahpu spits on her hand.
