beautiful song, lovely singer as well, sad we wont see him live again , but his music goes on. i only found him on YT and bought this dvd and a few cds. thanks for posting . Ray
een geweldige zanger en band. Tot tranens toe heeft hij mij ontroerd en niet alleen mij. Naar een aantal optredens van hem geweest. Fantastisch. Groot verdriet toen hij, veel te vroeg overleed!!
love this song. It was originally sung from the woman's point of view, so Jeannie was Johnny. Johnny was a soldier and whenever she heard the drums of his regiment, she was reminded of him. In those days regiments were named after their colonels, in this case the Earl of Dumbarton, so she listens for "Dumbarton's Drums". Her soldier is the Colonel's servant "Dumbarton's caddy" and she dreams one day he'll be a captain and she his lady. It kind of doesn't make sense sung from Johnny's point of view (why would the drums of his regiment remind him of his girlfriend?), but whatever, he sounds so good.
maybe his reason for joining up was to be able to care for her, and maybe becoming a captain was an ambition, dunno. I think there are some "plausible" explanations :) but like you said, whatever, it sounds good! :)
Yet another fabulous listen to the wonderful John W…..the absolute best…..forever and always….never ever forgotten 🧡
_R.I.P. John...From someone who loves listening to your songs and this one is so special.._

Great version of the corries classic
Heel erg mooi, en dan a capella. Zou er een Schots-Keltische versie van dit lied zijn?
Prachtig
😍❤️💋
If Jeannie needs to kneel to kiss hiim, she must be at least eight feet tall
lol....this is because the song was originally sung by a woman to Johnny, not Jeanie, makes more sense that Johnny might kneel to kiss her.
