For those haters who don't know, this was done as a special request on (I believe) one of the season finales of the show So You Think You Can Dance. Katie did it as a tribute to Judy - she obviously wasn't trying to "outdo" her! Give the woman a break!!! She did a fun number, and sang and danced really well (for a non-singer or dancer)! Get over yourselves!
I didn't the Dawson's Creek actress was a singer as well, Katie Holmes got to display her singing talent in "Beauty Contest" (second-to-last episode of season 1).
She is so talented and did a stellar job at both signing and dancing … i think the issue here is that the show tried to pass this off as if it was live. This was prerecorded, as she’s not even mic’d, and the sounds of the crowd were added in later. Even the hosts of the show pretended like she was on a set live, and introduced her like it was all in real-time. That’s why the whole thing feels … odd. But Katie is amazing and would’ve crushed it live.

came here from her version of on my own (from dawson's creek) and this is actually 10,000,000 times better. there's probably some autotune but still she got BETTER. like, damn. she got A LOT better.
@@staceygal1984 people can be acting and still sound bad. She was in her early 20s in Dawson’s creek vs this. So I wouldn’t be surprised if she was getting lessons or practicing.
She doesn't sing its called voice enhancement software, very common now a days with the majority of singer you'd be surprised. Also you'd think if she had that voice she would be singing more.
@@sevati6167 not necessarily. There a quite a bit of actors that can sing but don’t want to be singers. They don’t care to have their own songs. It just means they love acting more than singing. Also in order for a artist to really be making money they would need to tour.

She was a dancer before she was an actress and she can sing too. I think she did a fabulous job here.
