The 670-meter-long Sunamachi Ginza shopping street is packed with nostalgic specialty shops selling everything from tea and sweets to miso and pickles and fresh street food. The area is also said to be home to a high number of yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) shops.
Sunamachi Ginza is an old-fashioned “shitamachi,” which translates to “downtown” and references the eastern side of Tokyo. During the Edo period, the shitamachi was where craftsmen and merchants lived, while the Yamanote area was inhabited by the upper class.
The people who were born and raised in the shitamachi are known as “Edokko” (“child of Edo”) and are considered the real Tokyo people. They still champion Japanese traditional culture and are known for their friendliness and warmth.

These Showa-poku market streets are one of my favorite places to visit in Tokyo. Come by the Oyama Happy Road once the refurbishing is finished :) There's a locally famous crepe shop and a butcher with amazing ham katsu among other things!
