One day a man kicked an innocent cat in Turkey, and the whole people around started to scream at that guy and people took the cat and fed it as best as they could. Ahhh I love Istanbul.
The ppl of Turkey must be exceptional human beings. Ghandi once said that you could tell the health of a civilization by the way it treated its animals. Turkey must be at the top of the list! The ppl have learned the value of innocent creatures that we in the west don’t seem to have learned. Compassion and empathy are traits that are no longer a part of our lives in the U. S. which breaks my heart. Much love to the Turkish ppl and their cats from Texas, USA.
I'm a turk living in Germany. Here stray animals are treated badly. They are kicked, hurt and poisoned. Especially the pigeons. Killing animals became a kind of National Sports. But down in Turkey stray animals are seen as ordinary citizens and mostly treated with respect. Never understood why Germans call us barbarians.
actually you can see cats in other cities like istanbul's. I live in İzmir and we have like 5-6 cats and 2 dogs here in front of our apartment, we feed them regularly. they dont go anywhere, they know this is their home. you can see many more examples everywhere in Turkey, not only in Istanbul.
For those who wonder we have a LOT of birds sparrows, pigeons, crows and seaguls in İstanbul. Since people feed the cats they dont attack on birds much. Also birds are often fed esp in mosque centers. Seaguls are always fed bagels (simit) everyday by people who use sea transportation. And yes we have many cats and dogs living in the streets all over Turkey not just İstanbul.
My sister was on Holiday in Turkey last week with her husband and kids and they told me they spent a lot of time feeding the cats. My sister loves cats.
Beautiful city and the way the cats are cared for is very special! May this beautiful city and it's beautiful people always be Blessed for the kindness they show these gorgeous fur babies!
i love that cats in Turkey are very open to strangers and love to play, eat. i live in the Netherlands and there are only a few cats in the neighbourhood, come out at nights and always flee when you approach
I have always attracted cats, even when I was a Postman they came to me. I gave treats and kind words. I now care for a feral Tom I caught and had spayed. He is a good kitty. I have named him Jacobi. He lives in a greenbelt behind my home.

I am inlove with Istanbul because of the cats and I left my heart in Sultanhamet as saying goodbye to all the cats there broke my heart. .I will be back again for sure
I remember, when I had my first trip to Istanbul last summer, there we so many cats that, you can say they rule Istanbul 😇 A cat in almost evert corner! Morgane LC With so many animals on the street it's been evitable that there are casualties or injuries. There are charities that do spaying and neutering for free, even though of course there's a limit to what they can do with so many animals on the streets. There are kind hearted people who will pay out-of-pocket to take animals to the vet, or adopt injured or blind cats to their homes. The first cat I knew closely was our family cat, and my dad brought him home from the streets of Ankara as a kitten after encountering him three days in a row on his way home from work. I still miss him to this day. Long time ago (mid/late 90s) my then neighbor and best friend heard some very soft sound that turned out to be a kitten mewling faintly as he was leaving work at 3 AM (a software start up hence the crazy hour). It was a very young kitten, so young that the eyes were halfway newly opened and couldn't see well, placed in a box on top of a trash bin. It's unclear what had happened to her but she had been separated from her mother very early. He took to the kitten to the vet, Who gave some IV stuff but said there was no hope she would survive as she was way too young and needed mothers milk. He decided to try to take a chance to help her and brought her home. We tried to feed her with goats milk with little droppers (the mouth was too small!) and it wasn't clear this would work. Then, believe it or not, I near miracle happened. His female dog, who wasn't pregnant, nor had never been pregnant totally instinctively, started lactating! If I didn't see this with my own eyes I'd have a hard time believing. It's one of the most amazing things I've seen. The dog made milk, the kitten found and took to the nipple and she lived! She was always a little small, but she grew to be an adult cat and was a cherished pet for years (we named her "mi" pronounced kind of like "mee" for the sound she was making when found, probably hours away from dying) . That amazing story aside, I personally know about half a dozen people who are constantly (and I mean constantly, their Facebook feed is nothing but animals) taking care of injured street animals, paying out of pocket to get care for them, recruiting vets to help for free for such cases, helping animals to get adopted etc. Like anywhere, you have a small minority of people who are mean to animals in Turkey as well. But if anybody saw animal cruelty, it would not be well-tolerated. You can see from how comfortable the animals are that by and large the people in Turkey are happy to co exist with their furry friends, feed them etc. Most of the time injuries are from fights with other cats or traffic. The relationship domestic(ated) cats and humans always been mutually beneficial in terms of their help in vermin control, but in modern times when there are other options than cats for that, our relationship persists, they still manage to find their way to our hearts and lives. No matter how fluffy all cats have a bit of the wild in them. In Istanbul, the old yet modern city, contrast is especially salient and beautiful. On that note, there's a new movie about cats in Istanbul called Kedi, which means cat in Turkish. It has just been released in the US. I watched the trailer and it looks really beautiful and friends of mine who saw it said it was a feel-good movie. I sure could use some of that these days and I'm going to try to see it for sure. You can find the trailer on RUclips. It looks so beautiful.
1chienandalou God has created such loving creatures on this earthe. He had so much love in mind when he made everything...even when he created the dog that was able to nurse the cat! There's so many examples of this with many animals that adopt other animals and some that aren't even their own kind! It's been seen many times how exact mortal enemies would become best of friends! Cats and mice, dog and cats, ect...I have always said that humans could learn a lot from such animals! I have always wondered why God gave us animals that really didn't serve a working purpose as much as they served the loving companion purpose. I think God gave us humans animals to constantly remind us of unconditional love. Even the worst of people can find love and companionship within an animal. Unlike many humans, animals have an unconditional love for us it doesn't matter how bad our day was, or who had mistreated us or what we look like, or what we have, animals don't care..they love us for who we are! Yes there's always going to be bad people in the world that even a stray starving animal knows to stay away from, but there's a place for the people that abuse animals! They may not get justice now but they will have God to answer to. I just look at everything around us and I can tell the difference in what animals God gave us for human survival and which ones he gave us for pure companionship! I don't think there's any one creature that was created that doesn't serve a purpose! Even though I'll admit I don't think spiders have a place in my heart (although I always have a place for them on the bottom of my shoe!) I do love the fact that these cats are being taken care of but I find it very hard to believe that they are all healthy. I would hope that these cats have been vaccinated to ensure their health and a long lifespan. These cats do look like they are very happy and taken care of but eventually when the numbers get too high, the cat's lives will become threatened. There's definitely a need for control such as spaying and neutering. I feel that controlling the numbers would increase the health and lifespan of these cats. Like I mentioned earlier, there's plenty of people that mistreat animals and the more cats that are born, the more likely they will become a nuisance to them and then their chances of being abused and mistreated increases. I'm sure some are neutered/spayed but I believe it's important to keep the numbers controlled. It's easier to love one or a couple animals instead of a large number. But I am glad to see a place where animals are being loved so much.
OMG, What a paradise! Wow, there are so many stray cat, they don't scare of people. I also want to feed them 😸😸😸 . Great job. Superb. Big thumb up👍👍👍 and Big like. Liked and subscribed. Your new friend, Topping Deer. ❤️❤️❤️
Come to Jakarta and you will also see cats in every corner. The difference with Instanbul is that in Jakarta literally no one feed stray cats on a regular basis. Stray cats mostly survive just by their own survival strategies, eating from garbage dump, eating leftovers from thousand of food stalls, rejected fish and chicken chops from thousand of markets, etc.. There are a lot of rats, especially at the city's slums, of course, yet the cat never prey on this rats, cos the rats are just too big for the cat to handle..., almost the size of guinea pigs

So cute. I visited Istanbul and Israel two years ago and immediately noticed how kind the people are to cats. Many shop owners have food and water for them, and even little mats or cushions for them to sleep on. They are well-fed and not afraid of people like they are here in the USA.
Except some teenage girls who do harm to them just because they are afraid in turkey lol
