Horsetrader is now available as an audio book. (Listened to twice already!) Epic book that takes you back to the best of times and gives so much detail and background.

Simple economics and the ridiculous prize money on offer in British racing then meant Mr Sangster had no choice other than to reduce massively his involvement. A true sportsman a man of real class.

I honestly think El Gran Senor would have been an all time great if it wasn't for injury. Won the greatest 2000 guineas in history and should have won the Derby.

Since I’ve sat on a good portion of these and I know the Opinions of the Lads in the Yard. Here’s my two pennies worth.
Joint 1st El Gran Senor- Golden Fleece ( the Lads that knew, put him nearly in the same class as Nijinsky)
3rd Alleged 4th The Minstrel 5thSaddlers Wells 6th Assert 7th Caerleon 8th Storm Bird 9th Rodrigo de Triano 10th Thatching

@@beddau4ever i remember sitting in the Tack Room in Ballydoyle one day in the Autumn of 85 with Johnny Brabson, Jerry Gallagher, Tom O‘Gorman and Stony Burke and talking about old times. The talk was about the merits of Sir Ivor and Nijinsky. The Lads agreed that Lester was wrong and Nijinsky was the better Horse. Then Stony Burke said that he thought Golden Fleece was in Nijinskys class and the others agreed.

@@beddau4ever Golden Fleece was a very tall, big Horse and not an easy Ride in the morning. He didn’t have a bad temperament, but he was as agile and quick as a small Horse. He could whip round and leave you sitting mid air without a Horse under you.

You might have thought so. Golden fleece was awesome. But he was a 12f horse, maybe 10f too. But El Gran Senor won the great 2000 Guineas, and was a brilliant 12f horse. So his Versatility probably gives him the edge. And the Senor beat superior horses. But Golden fleece was imperious at 12f and they never got to the bottom of him.
