    Great work :) love watching your vids. Quick tip from a spray painter, when using spray cans it's good to warm them up in a small bowl/bucket with hot water. It softens up the pigments that sit at the bottom of the cans and up's the pressure in there for a much nicer spray pattern. But don't heat it up too much as this will distort the can. 😄👍

    A job I've got to do on the Coupe. My arches were bunched in Japan to fit the over fenders, just cut and rolled, not sealed back up. Had a rough idea how to do this, but good to see it being done. Keep the videos coming.

      Speed Academy He did run one continuous bead along the whole thing with a MIG welder correct? That must have been off camera. Then you ground it down?

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  8 лет назад

      Actually, he did a series of tack welds so as not to put too much heat into the fender which could warp the metal. So lots of tack welds to slowly seal up the gap, then ground down the tacks for a cleaner appearance, then sealant to make sure its water tight, then primer and paint to protect the metal.

    Hi, Thanks for the video. It's very educational. Im sorry if this is a dumb question, but why did you have to cut the OEM fender? It doesn't seem you needed the clearance because you're still running the same size tire. Also it does appear the fender flares would have covered the OEM fender anyways.

    A VERY good idead is to remove the interior exposing the inner arches(??) In case of a fire between the two layers, you can easily put it out, but if you don't remove the interior you CAN set the car on fire and it can be VERY hard to put out, when you can't spray directly at the source..

    Can the mig welder do the whole job for welding the fender together? E.g mig100 flux core

  • @andrewke3900
    @andrewke3900 6 лет назад

    Question, at 16:57, after you weld all the flap points (from the outside), you go in and cut the flaps off, then grind down all the metal to make it a smooth finish. Aren't you essentially grinding away all the contact points that you just welded, leaving potential weak spots or gaps?

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  6 лет назад

      It may look like that but when we're grinding we're only taking off a bit of the weld so there's still lots of weld left holding it on. But remember that this doesnt serve a structural purpose as much as making sure its sealed from water and debris.
