I don’t normally leave reviews but out of all of the skincare influencers I’ve checked out, you’ve been one of the best! I love how you give products 6 months trial. Most influencers switch out products so quickly all the time - HOW are you meant to see true results in that time? You’re also one person who actively deal with skincare issues that warrants the products you use, which is so refreshing than seeing a smooth skin flawless influencer try out acne products. I adore your personality and please keep up all the amazing work 🙏

I disagree with the overall premise of this video, but I think you're right on a few issues. We all have different skin needs and PC attempts to provide an option for everyone based on what they're looking for. It's one of the few brands that you can use to cover all your skin needs. The effectiveness of their formulas is also another stand-out aspect of PC that is unique to PC. Obviously, there will be some fails (as we have cheaper options) and while the price has increased, there 20% discount plus free shipping everyday kind of neutralizes this concern. Vitamin C booster, NIacinamide 20%, 4% BHA, Omega moisturizer and Serum, Hydrating Cleanser are some truly special products that deliver on their promises.

I totally agree with your assessment. I've used several of their products and I think their formulations are good, but the price point is just too high for what you get. Also the number of products is very confusing and at that price you don't want to buy the wrong product and then be stuck with it. I tried the 2% BHA and it's great but I don't have acne prone skin so using the Inkey List Salicylic Acid Scrub once a week is plenty of BHA for me and is dirt cheap. I also used the Advanced Replenishing Toner which is a nice hydrating toner but nothing special. There are a lot better toners from Korea that have both hydration and the nourishing effects of fermented products plus soothing ingredients like centella asiatica and green tea--all at a fraction of the cost! I do love the PC Clinical 1% Retinol but the Geek & Gorgeous A-Game 10 gives me the same results for 1/3 of the price. I just bought the PC Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50. It's goes on as a thin, watery lotion and sinks in easily with no white cast or stickiness. It has that tell-tale SPF smell which I'm not crazy about but it goes away over time. It's a decent sunscreen and I'm glad that it's been verified to be an SPF of at least 50 but I don't LOVE it. So overall, Paula's Choice is definitely a MEH brand for me and overpriced in my book.

  • @emilyw6922
    @emilyw6922 3 года назад +2

Thank you for the honest review! Paula’s choice is my favorite brand because of the thought behind each product, the quality you can count on, and their wide variety that speaks to a lot of different needs. The price points are higher, but in many cases you get more product than in other brands, and in the states they are constantly running sales and specials. I also think one point you missed is the number of multi active products they have, which can give you great results and cut down on steps! My favorite PC products are the water-infusing electrolyte moisturizer, the oil reducing cleanser, and the 2% bha body lotion. I really want to add in the Azaleic Acid (which also has salicylic acid in it) or the antioxidant pore purifier, which has salicylic acid, azaleic acid, vitamin C, niacinimide, antioxidants, ceramides, etc.

I’ve been using PC for the last 10 years, so you can definitely call me a fan 😆 I have favorite products and some that I will not repurchase (all of their eye creams, omega moisturizer, their masks- all 👎🏻 for me). I think that the products are very well formulated and actually work. The boosters are expensive, yes, but they contain ingredients that support the main active and all of them include antioxidants. PC retinol products are standouts as well.
I do agree that PC has way too many options, which can be confusing to new users. I think that they’re still in the older mindset of having product lines (Clear, Omega, Resist, etc, so they release entire sets of products (like the newer DEFENSE line, for example). I still use some of their older products. Hydralight moisturizer is my favorite and one of their legacy products. Definitely runs circles around some of the new releases.

Haven’t found a dupe for the PC Azelaic Acid that’s as good as PC. Can you suggest some? I like the PC 5% Glycolic cuz I can’t tolerate a higher % and there isn’t anything else similar that I’ve seen. Also, the PC BHA 9 is an extremely effective spot reducer that no other company offers, so they do still offer some unique products, but as you say, the choices are overwhelming to consumers. They desperately need to fix that.

Boosters are meant to be mixed with other products, like moisturizer. The texture in the serums and boosters are very different. The retinol booster which is much more liquidy and lighter (easier to mix with other products) and the the serum, which is more of a lotion type of texture (not at all easy to mix). Booster: Boost the products you already have. I mix niacinamide booster with my toners, and use C15 in the morning alone because of the light texture instead of the serums. I love the variety in PC.. so much more easier to find a product that fits your skin, especially of you have multiple skin conditions. I have combination skin, oily/normal in summer and dry/normal in winter. I also have comedonal acne AND rosacea + excema prone skin. I am able to find effective skincare which suits my combo skin in different seasons. I can find products that calms my sensitivity while not clogging my pores. And I can exfoliate and keep my pores in check without triggering my rosacea or eczema! I love the variety and I love the options. Skin is unique, and so are the skincare routines 🌸
I understand the confusion that occurs for many and I felt the same way in the beginning, but the PC sites (EU and US) are very informative about the products and ingredients.

Gotta say, Paula's Choice Moisture Boost cleanser is hands down the best cleanser I have ever used. It is a very simple formula but is so soothing and moisturizing. I have rosacea and have tried a lot of products but this is it for sure. It's one of her older products so it's 16 oz for $26 which is much cheaper than most of her cleansers. I heard a rumor it's being discontinued so I recommend people go try it now and maybe they'll keep it!

Hi Rob it's not a brand i've really tried much from, purely due to the price point tbh. I like how they group their products into skin types, including their really sensitive skin friendly calm range (this being the range i tried). I like the products, but they're expensive for what you get. They are also more expensive here than in the US (as many things are lol). I have rosacea and eczema, so the calm range did work for me and I had no reaction to any of the items in the trial set i bought. I didn't buy the full sizes as it isn't the only range that works for me, the others being more affordable. There are a lot of PC devotees out there especially in youtube beauty videos, but I just don't want to spend that much on fairly basic products. As a bit of a skincare junkie I like trying new things, so i'm never going to be brand loyal to any one brand tbh - it's just not how I approach skincare. For me it's a good brand with a higher price point than I feel I want to pay. I may try that omega moisturiser as I'm super dry and always on the lookout for a really nourishing cream though, but I'll try the small size first before splashing the cash lol. Best wishes.

Hello! New sub from the US. I've been using Paula's Choice for a very long (love their products). I will be honest that I was giving the side-eye when the video first started but I loved it. Love the format, the fact this is a follow-up (wish more people would give follow-ups) and you gave some alternatives that you have tried and why you prefer them

I love the brand and generally agree with many of your assessments here. I enjoy the cleansers and its sometimes more convenient to just add a cleanser to my regular orders of vitamin C, azelaic acid, BHA 2%, and sunscreen. I did enjoy the brand refresh as many of the products looks cute on the shelf compared to more affordable brands.

Hey darling Rob.. I totally agree.. I first used Paula's choice 16 years ago and I started with their BHA liquid which used to kost €19.90 and now €34.. which is ridiculous, mostly because the formulation stayed the same.. that was a dealbreaker for me.. they also used to market themselves as affordable yet effective.. unfortunately that's not the case anymore.. the only product I still buy is the BHA liquid.. cheerio 🖐🏻🌹

I want to try some of the booster serums next because it is such a well reviewed brand for these serums ... albeit they are a bit pricey. I actually made it to the live at 6pm today and you gave such good advice, as usual. Oh, and I ordered 2 serums from Face Theory today (including the Exaglow) and got a whopping £10 discount using your code. Thank you so much! I will let you know how I like the serums after a few weeks of use. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend Rob... and wishing you and Stephen a lovely Valentines Day at home tomorrow. xxx

I own the 0.3% retinol. It has about 2 or 3 types of vitamin C. The high levels of vitamin C makes it very exfoliating. It also has allantion which is a smoothing and exfoliating. I personally don't believe you'll need the 2% BHA if you are using the retinol regularly.

I've started trying out Paula's Choice. I've purchased the Clear range for my teenage girls, as it's more cost effective than the Dermalogica Clear Start range, and seems to be comparable. Also, I'm trying the Omega moisturiser soon in my quest for a less expensive Sunday Riley Ice moisturiser replacement. If you say it's good for dry skin, hopefully it will be a good dupe 🤞🏻
I haven't tried the sunscreens yet, but they're labelled with a lower SPF rating (only SPF15) in Australia, so I might give them a go in Winter when the UV isn't as crazy high as it usually is.

I like their moisturizers, I was looking for smth for my dehydrated skin, and I think I will stick to their moisturizers (love the Clinical moisturizer with shea butter, purple package for winter). After I finish them I'll get the omega one that you recommend. Also love the bha. As about others, I won't repurchase, I have some serums and a cleanser which is too drying even if it's marketed for very dry skin.

I’ve only ever tried one PC product and it was the one everyone raves about, the 2% BHA.
All I can say is I’m glad I bought the tiny sample bottle because my skin hated it. After just 2 uses my skin was breaking out and drying up (and I have oily skin!) and it was making my face red. My skin generally doesn’t react well to acids so I guess this was just another one that was too strong for me.
Plus they’re WAY too expensive they’re selling exactly the same thing as other brands like the ordinary but at 4 times the price! So not a fan.
Would love you to try and review UpCircle! A lovely brand with amazing products and a great brand ethos!

    • @jennalud4748
      @jennalud4748 3 года назад

The BHA is only supposed to be used once to twice a week, preferably at night! And the first few weeks you will get breakouts because it's cleaning deep down in your pores. Stick with it and you'll see your skin look like glass😘

  • @nkurdy288

The Boosters is misleading in name, because they are not single ingredient formulas at all. They are more of a well rounded serum (I think u even point out how u can’t tell the serum from the booster). The price point is up there though! I love The Calm range, the serum is excellent on breakout. A lot of the Calm range remind me of Korean formulations. The Omega 3 moisturizer is my fav as well, and I have oily/combo skin (it goes matte on me!). Been using PC for a solid 8 years, with a few Drunk Elephant items.

I definitely agree that they should reduce the amount of dupes within their lines. Like they have that 2% Bha and they have another 2% Bha in their Acne line with blue packaging. The ingredients are exactly the same! I mean if they really want to have a ton of product options and keep these two, at least change the formulation a little bit, maybe lose some of the potentially pore clogging ingredients like Polysorbate 20 and butylene glycol and call it "we recreated the pore perfecting formulation for the Clear line but this time it's much safer for acne prone skin". I feel like they just don't want to put the effort

I get so overwhelmed by PC. I only do the C15 which worked amazingly for me. I’ll try GG C glow to see if it works the same as the C15 coz you know ? It’s cheaper !!!!

They are well formulated but maybe a little overpriced, anyway they don’t sell to my country, Andorra. I would like to try the BHA 2%.. maybe i try the Ordinary one if it’s similar...

The body treatments are also great for shaving rash or ingrown hairs in delicate regions. 🤭

Hi, I'm from Russia and I type through a translator. I wanted to find out.
I have fungal acne chin (closed pimples), which turn into internal pimples, they hurt, do not go away for a long time and leave a trace
Is paula's choice bha 2% suitable for such a problem? I want to buy 30ml to understand, but many people talk about black spots, I have a problem with acne, traces. I wanted to take Cosrx bha, but I realized that this tool is too soft for me. Below I will write my departure, if necessary.
I hope you will notice, because thanks to you, I was able to choose a good spf (make prem), and not hang it on rave reviews, where they praise sunscreen with an inappropriate percentage
    Care :
    Hydrophilic oil-Dr. G
    Purification - CeraVe
Serum-cosrx Aha 7; beauty joseon glow serum
    cream-CeraVe
    sunscreen milk-make prem
    * I sent this comment under two videos, because I do not know if you will notice a comment under a video that was shot a long time ago

Looking extra sharp today Rob 😊
I love PC as a brand and really don't mind that they have so many products since it's formulated for different skin types and issues, you choose what works for you. I always buy directly from their website with my subscriber 15 or 20% off discount and usually get a free full sized product on purchases $65+.
Makes the pricing a little less steep for me.
... and Happy Valentine's day Rob, hope you have a good one

Thank you so so much hun thats so lovely of you to say... Here in the UK we dont get the discounts and money off like they seem to offer in the States which is a shame but your right it does make it a little more affordable as a brand... thank you so much for sharing and sending you lots of love xxxx
