    Hi Guido.
As you mention, this is a mic that has been used a lot for radio broadcast, and I have always liked the sound of it for that purpose. When you listen to.... what ever radio host who use this, it always has that warm soft sound which is both catchy and cozy to listen to. The perfect mic for the voice in the night.
Looking forward to the rest of this series.
    Stay awesome Buddy.

Thanks for this first episode dedicated to microphones. They are essentiel in the sound of musical recordings with each, its own specificity. Perhaps you know Christophe Chavanon, owner of " Kerwax Studio " in Brittany , France. This recording studio is analog ( one of the last recordings, the Dutch band Dewolff with the LP "Love, Death & In Between" ) Recenty Christophe built a ribbon microphone for drums, electric guitars etc (KERWAX K-23R) and before that the MELODIUM 42Bn. I wait your next episode now 🙂

This is one of my go to mics for live kick drum, bass cabinet and saxophone. Last week I triple mic’d a cello with this, a Neumann TLM 103 and a Shure SM57 for a string quartet recording.

    Excellent presentation, thank you.
I used to like that 'FM' sound when I first heard it on my Dad's Grundig 'Majestic" in the late 1950s,, then I realized how artificial it sounds.
Voices don't sound like that, period.
We use the term 'tubby', and for good reason.
The LF rolloff (HP filter) turns the mic. into a $9.85 dynamic mic. from the 1960s.
    TERRIBLE sound !
How a mic. like this ever became popular, much less a 'standard', beats me.
But that's jus my 'humble' opinion, based on over 60 years experience.
    Your results may vary.
    Thanks again,
    Bill P.

Depends which model! I have a couple and they are…different. The EV can certainly compete, yes! If you are thinking SM7b then EV wins IMO.

    Hi Guido Anadialog!!!!
    Gerard Stroh Here***
One of my old Friends Has an Electro-Voice RE-20 Made in the 1980's and He Still Has that Mic and He Has other EV Mics and I Like the RE-20 Because of the Tone and The Down Fall About the EV RE-20 is You Need More Gain Somewhat and You Need A Good Mic Preamp With Alot of Gain Studio Grade Type and My Allen & Heath 40 Channel GL3300 Mixer Has Good Preamps on Every Channel***
I Recorded With That Mic Before and it is Super Awesome and If I Had That RE-20 Mic Guido it Would Sound Good on my old Ampex AG440 4 track 1/2 inch Sudio Reel to Reel Tape Machine!!!
I Used That Mic on A Acoustic Guitar and A Kick Drum and That Mic Was Used on one of the Bass Singers in Elvis Presley's Concerts in 1973***
    Awesome Video***

Hi guys. I will be interested too. I am starting to record guitar and vocals. I know the classic Shure suggestion for each, but I am a Marantz man. I have their affordable MPM-1000 and would love to hear about how it stacks up to the Shure and other mics, brands I've learned about in the last couple years like Neuman, and Telefunken.

You might like a video called, "Tested: Where Does The Tone Come From In A Microphone?" by @Jim Lill
He is a musician and tested a bunch of microphones in different configurations to test what does and doesn't effect the sound.

I have an ElectroVoice RE-20 as well, I love it too. More natural sounding than the ubiquitous Shure SM7 that most podcasters seem to use. I like this topic, since I’m also trying to learn more about this.

@@anadialogthere are a few youtubers offering their clients valuable sound clips , some are better than others depending on recording equipment used. Getting the clip to sound as close to what you hear in-room is the goal.
Try a Zoom F3 plus your mics and go from there.
