One of my all time favorite cars. One of my good friends back in the day had a '63 split window coupe, red on red, and my uncle had a '65 coupe, burgundy on black, awesome cars. I got to drive my uncle's car quite a bit. I would say leave everything stock but damn I do like those side pipes.
Thanks for the video! I have a 67 Corvette coupe that I'm putting a LS376/525 hp with Tremec TKX 5 speed. I am making side pipes using C6 Z06 manifolds so I found your video fantastic to see ideas on how to get the pipes to the manifolds. I have 3/8 steel plate that I'm cutting an oval flange out of to weld to a 3x6 pipe that I have to make and taper it down to 3 inches for the pipes. I think that I can do a flange on the end like the one in your video to connect everything. Thanks again for the detailed video!
this is going to help me a lot I'm installing the new exhaust kit I just got my 1966 coupe was central exhaust but just got my side exhaust kit today and installing it tomorrow can't wait to hear it
Your car being a 66 should have the key hole in the frame already, and if you bought the correct collector size you'll be laughing at how easy it is to install. There is some cutting involved (lower front fender and the lower trim brackets)... some people said they were able to bend the brackets inward with a hammer and a 2x4. I hit them pretty good and they didn't move much... which is why I cut them off (knowing I'll never go back to the rear exit). But honestly after the rear exit pipes are off and you do the cutting work, it should be smooth sailing for ya! Sound is night and day difference! If you loved your car before with the rear exit... you'll really love it with side exhaust! Let me know how it goes! Happy wrenching! Mike
Know your a Ford guy but I know you realized that a C2 coupe is a sweet ride. I've got a C2 convertible but there is no comparison to the coupe. gorgeously elegant exterior but a interior you never want to leave. Great video, thanks.
In 69 I put 427 exhaust on my 69 Camaro. I had it again on my 65 Vette years later. Once retired 12 years ago I built another 69 Camaro and again installed side exhaust on it too. I also have an all original 66 that sat in a heated garage over 40 years I now have that on the road and it too has side exhaust. If I could, id put it on every car I build! LOVE THAT SOUND. BTW there are several different sound levels available in side exhaust. Your is the mild one! Nice work on your installation. Dont worry about the purists as there are enough perfect cars to go around!
Side exhausts are awesome! Thank you for a great video with great audio of those pipes. Only 2 down shifts but overall a great video. I would be smiling like you driving that car!
Side pipes are cool. The only problem with this is you still have the two holes in the rear of the car where the exhaust should exit. I think that takes a little bit away from the car.
He just needs to buy a solid filler panel. Only six bolts and the black paint would be easy to match. Keep the original with the cutouts for the next owner along with the cut off rocker panel tabs.
Hey Mike. Good work, mate. I have to admit that I was with Steve Carell while you were chopping. But it turned out really well and sounds great. Congratulations, you do good work. Maybe you can install some dummy chrome pipes through those rear exits so they don't look so redundant though?
nice corvette i have a 1962 327 i rebuilt myself about 5 years ago i pulled the 305 out of my 89 camaro that had really low oil pressure dropped in the 327 its a screamer night and day difference from the 305.
Nice. Had a buddy with a 63 split window. Worked at Ford in Oakville. In the early 90's he got building and selling houses with his brothers. Market collapsed. Had to sell his baby, silver 327 with red interior 4 speed with factory knock -off spinner rims. I'm a diehard Ford guy but that Vette was as sweet a car as i have ever driven. Sad.
Great sound. Nice to see all the care you went onto to get a clean fitment. Was wondering with any engine torque or movement when revving the engine, did the mounts get tweaked? Or would a flex complier after the down pipe be of any help? Really enjoyed the video, THANKS
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the episode! During the welding phase I was thinking of adding a flex in there, but i said to myself, the pipes I'm modifying are factory side pipes for a c2 vette... they didn't have a flex and survived up until now, so didn't bother. So far no movement/ tweaking of the mounts. We'll see next summer when we put more miles on her! All the best, Mike
I can’t see out of a c3 Vet! I agree with you. C2 is my flavor. Live the sound of side pipes don’t care for the looks. I’m a Ford man , but wouldn’t pass up a C2 Vet.
Thank you, can’t beat side exhaust! The piping that I used was 2 1/2 I believe (been a while) as for the company, no idea as we bought them used off a guy.
What are you going to do with the original rear exhaust slots? Have you thought of putting rear Led tail lights into the slots. If you do, make a video of it.
May help to lead off with Engine and drive train specifics after introducing the car you're working on. Is it a Chevy 427 in this old girl? What rear end... yada yada... intake... carbs or injection? That sort of thing. Make some moulds of the body panels and cabin so you can build a couple more :-)) Been checking out all the different variety of engine blocks from Shelby Engines lately ?? Hmmmmm :-)
Sure, we are talking about the ones that hold the rocker cover on correct? If so I will have to see if I still have them (I'm sure I do just need to find them).
@@Theoldcarchannel. , Did you have a chance to see if you stil have the cutoff brackets? Will be glad to pay you for them , if not too much. Thanks so much, Butch
I have 79 c3 with side pipes. I like the looks but hate the loud sound. I ordered a S950 Doug's insert pipes to tone it down. If this doesn't work. Going custom exhaust muffler place and have new exhaust with mufflers added. 😂
If you're gonna cheat on your other cars with a Chevy, that era Corvette is one of the few acceptable.......👍

the whole car looks totally sweet great job
we miss your videos we all like them a lot are you going to have more
i am a true Ford man, but the boattail (63/64) Corvettes are awesome! Thanks!

Which engine do you have? My favorite is the 350HP/327. It has perfect sound and the cam-lope at idle just shouts, POWER!.....
Those side pipes sound sweet! A friend of mine helped his Dad put side pipes on his Dad's 64 Vette convertible, I love the sound of those, nice work!
I like both options for the exhaust. I love the stock look but love the sound of the side pipes
Know your a Ford guy but I know you realized that a C2 coupe is a sweet ride. I've got a C2 convertible but there is no comparison to the coupe. gorgeously elegant exterior but a interior you never want to leave. Great video, thanks.
The c2 is so much nicer looking than th c3 in my eyes 😊
Nice. Always loved the look of side pipes on vettes
That sound is amazing! Love C2s and C3s. You can’t beat the sound of those side pipes!!!

Back in the day they pulled the cores on the side pipes and installed a cutout in each pipe and left the rear exhaust with mufflers!!!
Damn good job bro! I had the pleasure of installing full length headers into side pipes on a 74 C3 and man did it sound wicked! Great video!
Great video gentleman. Always great to watch you guys having fun in the garage. PennyLane is jealous of that exhaust ;)
Sounds good, even for a Chevy! Just kidding, love that sound!
Classic side pipes on an old vet. Totally cool 😎
How to reduce the HP on your C2 using factory parts. But they are the best trouble free side exhaust ever put on a car. 🏆
Love the pipes, when will we get some new videos
Love my sidepipes on my 74 Corvette, sounds great out of the 396 stroker
OK, Do a vid on the Mach 1.. wash and drive! Mostly drive, and drive some more!
Love the side exhaust, you can never go wrong 😁😁👍👍
It's a beauty and the pipes sound fantastic. I'll take it 🧐😊
Side pipes are a must! Sounds SO GREAT!!!

DUH.......... You don't think those holes will get covered up? It's only fiberglass.....

If you bought it to restore, then go out the back. If you bought it to be a hot rod, you have to keep the side pipes.
THANK YOU ! I needed this video to happen. I am installing side exhaust on my '67 coupe, and needed assistance with it.
Enjoy Pro regards from Holland
side pipes sound great.
Yeah love it exactly the way it is now! Sounds soon good! Haha also I'm a Ford guy 🙈

I prefer the rear exit exhaust, I never did like the sound or look of side pipes.
Unless it was on a Ford 427 Cobra!
side pipes for sure great look great sound. the sound gave me wet spots lol
Cool car!)
ok for the city, get those ear plugs ready for the highway unless you have a 5 speed
Maybe build a couple inserts that slip into the rear holes to close up the openings, that way if someone wants stock pipes just remove the inserts.

Side exhaust rocks but I’m biased. My 63 has side exhaust

Can you tell me the diameter and brand of the new chambered side pipes? They really sound great.👍🏻

I speak for the peoples….. we need more Mach 1!!! lol

Cross over pipe in case the Manifold Heat Control Valve rust close? Up is open and down is closed?
Side pipes are a necessity when you have a corvette
How many cars do you guys have?
much prefer the sidepipes for sound and looks, shame about the rear valance holes tho
Are you going to change out the rear valence for one without the holes for the exhaust?
What are the wheel and tire size on the car?

Any way you would sell the mounting brackets that was cut off to mount side pipes , ons that screwed to bottom of rocker panel ? Thanks, Butch

@@Theoldcarchannel. Yes sir, the ones that you cut off that hold rocker panel on if dont have side pipes. Thanks

oh, but that mach1.
Side pipes were not Available until 65 that's NO NO to a purerest that's OK with me, my 67 has them, Love my Pipes.
Yeah, could care less what a purist has to say lol! We build them how we like them 👍
👍🤣👍
Whit side pipe
Now all you need is Knock offs.
You just lost 30hp 😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂
Really don’t care
Should keep it as original as possible to retain it's value.
Side exhaust sounds better. Looks better.
It’s no mustang…..
Ah Ha so you can be a hack!
