You can use Reshade to change the look of iRacing. Always found it to look a bit hazy and yellowish. I've always used LUTs to change the look within OBS, but with Reshade you can actually do the same for you - ingame! Highly subjective, but play around with the settings and let me know if you like it :)

The real question is why iRacing uses this weird washed out sepia toned aesthetic. It's not realistic, it just looks like every circuit is in a desert.
it's an ancient engine developed by olds, it took them almost five years to even make it to DX10

Hi Dan, thanks for the great video. I just applied the FlimicTonemap at default settings (it gets rid of the haze) and turned the ColorTemperature to 6500K. My display is also tuned to 6500k. It just looks more natural now.

Yes, will be doing this today. I really don't like the yellow/orange tint everything has in iRacing.

www.shutterstock.com/blog/kelvin-scale-breakdown-color-temperature just for reference. 5600K would be "pure white" however it would also be deemed a bit yellowish in most situations. but generally anything outside of noon on a perfectly clear day would be tinted warm, particularly on colder days (which is ironic), unless there's a lot of cloud cover, which would likely be at 6500K

I just discovered reshade thanks to you. Came from Acc where the color is more to my liking, can't stand the warm yellowish color of iracing. Can't play the game without reshade now.

Hi Dan, always great videos coming out of your shop. Is this Rider application? Really the only viable solution to make iRacing look better now that the Nvidia filters don’t work in the game?
What the cost in performance? GPU ? CPU ? I guess it's just on GPU side.

Using his settings on a replay of a VRS race I recently did at Catalunya, I get about 90% of my original framerate (104 vs 94 at some parts of the track, 93 vs 85 at other parts) . 2070 Super, i5-9600KF, 7680x1440. And ooooooh man, does it look SO much better! After tweaking the variables and enabling Performance Mode and reloading ReShade, I get 2-3 of my fps back.

Roughly 40fps here (2700x + 1080Ti) which is a big chunk.

You can also do it with nvidia GeForce filters and it’s really easy
for me, this eats up about 20fps :O
Hans yeah sadly the new build has done something that does nvidia filter work bad or not even work at all. I can’t open iracing if I have the filters activated
Same for reshade but reshade fucks up JRT photo mode which i use alot :(

I think all Iracing devs were given a free pair of Blue light reduction/gaming/monitor glasses/shades because how could any of them thought that yellow tint was good 🤣🤣
Neat, but I'd be more inclined just to save custom monitor profiles for varying uses.
A custom monitor profile can only do so much. This is far more capable and you will get a MUCH better result.
For triple users a little bit useless idea
Are you not able to create folders in Gimp? I would not have merged the two layers, not only did you need to then re-select the pixels of the .png LUT area, but if you want to go back and adjust a certain slider/effect you have no easy way of doing it.
It's optimal to make two copies of the .png file you took from the iRacing folder and even a second copy of the screenshot. Put one of each into a folder and toggle visibility for that folder to off. This is just a non-destruction setup. From here there are several ways to go about editing one or more different images (LUTs) without needing to reelect pixels or having to control+z (or completely start over) in case you don't like the outcome, or if you want to make changes later (assuming you saved the edited file with layers).
Again, not sure of the functionality of Gimp but that's how I would do it in Photoshop.
Caught part of Slav's stream today and he said he was having issues with Kapps due to reshade and someone else said de Tilly has the same issue recently. Do you know if their issues were due to some user error on their part, if this only affects Kapps, or even if its not an issue at all? Thanks for the great vid!
Kapps, Racelabapps and JRT work just fine for me with Reshade ...
My problem wasn't related to kapps.
I'm still not sure if it was only related to reshade, but when I install something in my PC and everything start to crash, I just delete.

Reshade has a history of having random issues with overlays when you use it. It's been a few years since I've messed with it though. Even things that monitored FPS would make Reshade or SweetFX crash and have various other issues. This could be better by now, I'm not sure. I have just used Nvidia filters as you can import things from Reshade into the software.
I tired to download the reshade but just couldn't get it working due to clearly not knowing what to do correctly. Thanks so much for this video.

Fixed it but omg, I had to reinstall Google Chroma and upload a backup of my system. I don’t know what happend but it was really bad.

I get a grey screen until I hit the 'End' key and turn reshade off

Reshade completle crushed my game, first it worked complete fine, but after one day iracing stoped working, when i tryed to start a session or a replay i ended up with a Loading Error form Iracing, even after reinstalling the game / deleting every file in all folders ... Dan did you or anybody have a solution?
Go to your documents/iRacing folder
Open your core.ini file in a text editor
Find the [Communications] header
Change the value of 'connect_sockets' from 0 to 1
Save and exit
Reload the sim

Wonder if this works for VR, and if it impacts any performance. I would think not since it's just a LUT...could really help those of us with poor black levels on Index.
no reshade doesnt work with vr in any game sadly

I agree, pity it doesnt work in VR. Index has less saturated colours than a monitor, so the yellow tint is not so obvious. I usually add +2 or +4 gamma and it adds a bit of contrast. Would be nice to tweak things a bit further.

Is your monitor a 49 inch? Im curious to see how you have this setup in iracing, as i have just purchased one. Ive seen different schools of thought online. i.e. is it setup as a single monitor? or as 3 monitors within iracing, divided by 3. ( i hope that makes sense) .

Hey, yeah it's the 49" and I just render it as a single screen. I'm currently in the process of upgrading to triples though.

Sooo... It says i haven't the permission to write the defaultPreset.ini in the iracing folder, i've checked and i didn't saw any file named like this
you need full access to the folder reshade is placed to... in most cases its smth like C:\Documents\iRacing, for a few it seems to be the ProgramFiles folder thats causing this issue. Right-click the respective folder, go to security and make sure "Full control - Allow" is checked for every user in the list above. After that restart your pc and it should work

So I basically can do the second option, but just replace the original LUT file with the altered one (maybe backup the original one) and I do not need to use the reshade tool, right?
And how do you want to load the LUT :)? You need reshape for that too 😅
I don't get why iRacing looks so washed out in-game. The in-game screenshots on the website look natural, can't they just change the filter or color palette in the game?
Even though the iRacing folder has full write permissions, the Reshader program doesn't recognize it as having them. Tried everything, but nothing worked. Would be nice if it did.
Run Reshader as admin, see if that works.
mine says press home and idk what they mean by home when trying to open reshade in IR
While Reshade is installed EasyAntiCheat keeps coming up with 'Game Violation Detected'. Are you sure that it is safe to use Reshade with iRacing?
Big difference, BUT... at least for me it cost a huge amount of fps (dropped from 140 to about 90-100). Does anyone else noticed the same problem!? I have a hotkey in my streamdeck for reshade and when i toggle reshade off during the game, the fps rises immediatelly about 40!
Yup, had the same problem. Decided to turn it off and actually appreciate the default look now, I think they nailed color correction for most circuits pretty well if you have your monitor properly calibrated. What iracing is currently lacking though is a tiny bit of sun glare deflecting off the car paint on certain angles, like you see on GT7 and even modded AC. Other than that I like iRacing’s linear, non-exaggerated look.
@@luisalves11 Yep. After this I focused more to calibrate my screen options and in-game options and been very happy about graphics even that I don't use reshade. But have to be happy and grateful of this video, because without this i might never focused of this like I did now.

Could someone help me, I get a message at the top of the screen saying " unable to save preset; Make sure you have write permissions to c:\ program files (x86)\iracing\iracing.ini, I've tried going to the file location and changed it, and every file in iracing but still getting this error message, and when I leave the session, I won't save my settings? Please help!

I run a Ryzen 3100 with a 1650super 16g ram can I run iracing on ultra settings never tweaked it since build. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Did everything like you did in video. Jumped into test session and played around with settings. All was fine until i jumped into multiplayer. I keep getting "Loading Error" around the 15% mark when loading game. It's right after I choose VR yes or no. The screen flickers crazy for a few seconds before clearing up during error. Been selecting no to load into triples. Is there a setting I have to enable or disable to remedy this when setting up ReShade. Only fix is to uninstall iRacing and reinstall it without using ReShade. Does iRacing think this a cheat and Easy Cheat is flagging it? Really want to get this to work cause it looks so much better. Only other method I have seen is thru GeForce Experience and I don't want to install that.
Found this in reply below and it seems to have worked.

lol, never had a problem with ershade my whole life.... yet as soon as i install it and run iracing... ALL the colors are messed up and looks HORRIBLE
my monitor already has 6500k colour temp. using hdr with alienware qd oled. looks more natural just applying hdr. this just messed with the game, didnt work.
Ive just tried this and iracing gets to 15% loaded then just says error loading
Just tried it and i'm getting same error. I can practice solo and watch replays but if I try to enter mutltiplayer race i get loading error. I wonder if Easy Cheat is flagging it?

Don’t know exactly that you mean in this video, but usually I use racelab for overlays

When I open iracing, it gives me “Unable to save current preset. Make sure you have write permissions to (where iracing is located)ReshadePreset.ini
You have to go to the folder specified and right click on it that file, properties and then security tab. Enable all users "Full Control" and then start iracing

it's all cool but you can do the same through nvidia settings :D
It costs much more performance though via the Nvidia settings, pretty crazy

Stupid question, new to pc sorry. How do I then minimise the reshade window? You just pressed something and it disappeared but I can't get it to stop overlaying on iRacing.

Sadly, Tarkov has banned Reshade in a way that I can't even have it installed. Meaning I can't use it for iRacing. :(
I'm in the same boat. I cannot even download Reshade because of Tarkov. I'd imagine you could get similar effects on iRacing using Nvidia's filters.

I absolutely hate the urin-yellowish look of iRacing and at least put this video in my playlist in case I ever return to this mediocre title. I at least bought about 25 tracks and a reviewal will not burn that much money anymore:)

I fixed the game but it keeps saying see if you have permission and don't save idk why once I delete it said was installed but game don't load its fixed il stick to the GeForce settings lol I like it but I don't need a bar across my screen

I just tested this tool (on 9900k, 2080TI and triple 1440p) and it kills FPS performance from around 155 down to 125 (on better performing tracks with no traffic)... uninstall...
Then you can do the same with Nvidia filters, ALT+F3 without losing performance. This is if you have G Force Experience.I was thinking about yellow tone racing has.It is yellow but its actually easier on the eyes then cold temperature tone what would be more realistic.You can do the same on the monitor of course
How do I save my preset? I read on reddit that you you have to allow modify in iracing.ini but I can not change this so I can never save any presets.
Try running reshade as admin!
