      TrophyT_RC They're much thinner than American pancakes- kinda like a crepe.

      Getting confused with the nomenclature here @-@
      I think by "American pancake", a flapjack is meant?
      As far as I can tell from European cuisine, there are hotcakes, griddle cakes, flapjacks, crepes (or laced pancakes), and bliniy (or traditional pancakes, originating in Eastern Europe). Weren't original "English pancakes" more like hotcakes (as in, thick and large flapjacks made in a pan)? It's weird that there's a pancake day in Britain that involves thin pancakes, and that there's a butter day in Eastern Europe where everybody also makes a lot of pancake dishes :P
      Pancakes are a universal love

      American pancakes are more puffy than English ones

    • @daanzzmeister7178

      Chrissy Wager I don't know what American flapjack is, but over here it's butter, sugar, oats and fruit melted together, chilled and cut into bars- almost like a cereal bar. Dan and Phil did a recipe on English pancakes if you're curious on what they are. Gah, this is getting so confusing!

    The leveled up buttercream is called Swiss Meringue Buttercream. If you cook the sugar to to a certain degree then slowly add it to the whipped egg whites, it's called Italian Meringue Buttercream.

      Tips for this recipe: Instead of pork, you can slow cook a jackfruit instead, and it'll have similar texture as pulled pork. It won't have the same flavour as pork, but if you drench it with bbq sauce, people won't really notice the difference anyway.

      I can't speak for the UK, but in Russia we celebrate Maslenitsa, which is a non-religious holiday -- a buttery, pancake-fueled feast to celebrate the approach of spring and the completion of winter.
      Most holidays -- including every religious holiday -- is based on old, straightforward farmers' holidays, including Christmas and Easter. Historical missionaries and Biblical messiahs haven't really changed good ol' provincial tradition.

      Thank you i was just going to comment this xD

    • @Zairanang
      @Zairanang 7 лет назад

      I thought that if you sear it, it helps prevent the meat drying out as the meat juices are basically trapped inside.

    • @TheKangazoo
      @TheKangazoo 7 лет назад +10

      Zairanang nope, just a well spread food myth.

    • @ncino12
      @ncino12 7 лет назад +2

      In theory yes, but a good way to look at it is ex. When you cook a steak in a pan it sears off the 1 side but when you flip it over the juice still comes out the from the seared side. The searing just gives it a nice look and flavour. The way to keep it from drying out is the cooking time, temp, and letting meat rest for about the same time you cooked it.

    • @gab.lab.martins
      @gab.lab.martins 7 лет назад +17

      No, that doesn't happen. On the contrary, the longer you sear, more moisture evaporates from inside the flesh. As long as there's hissing and crackling noises, there's water coming out. That's why most modern chefs, when serving roasted joint, will do the reverse sear (cooking it to temp low and slow, resting, then returning to the oven as hot as it can go to crisp up). You should, though, pre-sear when cooking a steak sous vide (cuts down post-sear time, meat "marinades" in it's own crust) and when braising/stewing (maillard reaction creates and intensifies flavour compounds that will then be transfered to the broth).
      Still, it hurts my brain and organs whenever someone insists on saying "let's seal the meat" and not mean vacuum packing.

    Here's another sovoury pancake idea for you:
    Just make normal pancake dough, add some chives and basil (other herbs may be applied),
    cut a tomatoe in slices, warm them up in a pan (maybe add onions and stuff like that)
    stack pancake, tomatoeslices and some cheese on top of each other, repeat until you feel you've got enough, put cheese on the top layer and put in the oven for the cheese to melt.
