- Charles Lindbergh’s famous flight across the Atlantic took 33 hours. But what’s it like to fly the #airplane? Just ask Space Shuttle #astronaut, air racer, #testpilot, and #fighter #pilot Hoot Gibson, who got a chance to #fly our replica back in the 90s.

The things we’ve done as a people. Amazing.
I saw this plane hanging over a Lego replica of St Luis In the museum, amazing that it doesn’t have front windows
Because engine blocks front

Hoot Gibson!
The guy in the video he works at EAA Oshkosh and he talks a lot about when he flew it Really Amazing Story’s
Robert "Hoot" Gibson
Not to mention an astronaut and a naval aviator too!
he had large rubber bands...as a pilot stability augmentation system...s.a.s.
Damn
Let's face it,there were lots of men of that era that could of flew across the Atlantic Ocean with the SOSL..The real heroes are the men and women of San Diego that built the darn bird!
No. You’re simply wrong 😂 it was an impossible task. Meticulous fuel and navlogs were kept just so he could simply navigate. Sometimes only 10 feet above the Atlantic Ocean while remains awake and alert for 36 non stop hours. The airplane was also designed by himself so the point is moot
@@RRICKYSPANISH Charlie had absolutely no training or qualifications as an aeronautical engineer..There's no way he had any real doings when it came to the construction of the SOSL..He was in San Diego at that time for his recommendations and test flights .
@@RRICKYSPANISH And he was a college dropout also
@@francescoavila6960 interesting I didn’t know that. I had heard that it was his idea to take the window out to reduce drag
@@RRICKYSPANISH And if you read his bio, you'll see he was most likely too busy in San Diego in pursuit of his favorite hobby, chasing women .I doubt he had time to get overly involved in airplane riveting
Lindbergh took a nap
