Great, insightful reaction! Hozier (who's an individual artist, not a band) is Irish, and he's singing specifically about the Catholic Church in Ireland, pushing back against the idea of original sin ("We were born sick"), and celebrating loving who you want in the way you want. It's not just about same-sex relationships (hence his references to "she" in the song), although the video is very much about the persecution of gays in the Russian republic of Chechnya.
Scorching hot take 🔥 couldn't agree with you more my brethren. Your metaphor of dressing up like a cop on holloween doesn't make you a Cop, was a lightning bolt of truth. I know a lot of people are looking in the mirror on all your messages. That was the best work I've seen you do yet! Massive respect. Solid Spirit in clarity that's missing in this world 🌎 Just being yourself, because your here for this purpose. God bless. As always, Peace & Strength J
@@jeffmelnick1332 on The Bible app you can switch between pretty much any translation that exists. You can highlight, bookmark, add notes etc. It can be downloaded on pretty much any smart device. Hopefully this answers your question
I don’t think people worship their sexuality, Hozier is not gay. The church including the majority of Popes have agreed to conversion therapy for the gay community. So maybe it’s not worshipping your sexuality just asking for acceptance?
And that's the exact reason the Bible is the authority and not the church. Catholics believe the church is the authority. Being Catholic is different from being Christian. "gay conversion therapy" isn't consistent with anything written in the Bible and it doesn't take a theologist to see and understand that. Popes say and do lots of things that are blatantly anti biblical. People have done plenty of evil things in the name of God while blatantly contradicting his words/or character
Fantastic analysis as is everyone’s comments here. The Catholic Church was so harsh in its teachings regarding homosexuality and fuelled so much hatred and misunderstanding about being gay. No wonder so many people couldn’t come out and felt society’s shame. What a haunting video clip. I remember how this saddened and haunted me when I first saw it
I’m subscribed - been so for quite a while and I like your channel JMBOY TV 👍🏻❤️🔥‼️ I like the video of the TV series “Lucifer” with this song. It’s cool 👏🏻🥰‼️ Never saw the original video though. If this is it, I like it too 👏🏻🥰‼️
I love your review- I disagree with one thing- it’s not just bad behavior on the part of individual. Some churches still ‘interpret’ and teach bigotry (especially RE: gays) but includes many ‘others’ Some of the Catholic dioceses in Nebraska, Iowa, my original place of origin, the parishioners are told who they ‘have’ to vote for morally. And the marching orders were for trump, whom I personally regard as the most morally bankrupt leader certainly in my lifetime. Comment ‘the bedroom worship’ - It’s not worshiping the bedroom- in a world of dogmas, actual experiential knowledge is maybe not to be worshipped, but certainly to be respected. I’m also a Christian, one that refused to let ‘Christians’ tell who God loves. Also I’m sure you’re aware of the contradictions in the Bible- for instance ‘eye for an eye’ and ‘turn the other cheek.’ Or the Leviticus + anti-homosexual stuff- but you’ve got Jonathan loving David, Ruth and Naomi. So I’m not a biblical literalist. No matter who you are or what you believe to be trying to on this planet, The book/bible In your hand doesn’t absolve you from taking responsibility for yourself. Last comment (I promise:) relativism is relative - (even my relatives are relative🤣) Relativism need not be either/or. There are so many things in this life that are really ‘apples and oranges’ - a monk once told me that the only sin is ‘the sin of comparison’ because it denies the uniqueness in detail that every human possesses. But it’s possible to have a profound sense of ethics with non-relative values -- so often the differences, the wonderful details that make each human unique, as different as we are, but if we go deep enough, our essence is the same.
1) I think we are in agreement on your first point. I was trying to say that just because a church teaches something or condones something doesn't make it right. That's why the Bible is the final authority. Almost everything Paul wrote in the Bible was scolding churches for practices that were not biblical or christ centered. God is not a respecter of man that he would side with either corrupt party. So when you say a church is mandating that you do so you can see where their motives lie and God is not at the forefront. God is consistent with everything he says and does and that's why knowing the word for yourself is important. God calls us to worship him and not a church or a leader (that is not Jesus) 2) I'll have to disagree with you here and it's not because I just want to be right. There are no contradictions in the Bible, at least not in the way you mean. This is why hermeneutics is important for a believer. I spoke in my reaction about the difference between prescriptive and descriptive texts. Leviticus is in the old testament and it is laying out the 613 laws that are to be followed by the Israelites (God's people). The reason for those laws was to distinguish them from the surrounding people. In Leviticus 24:17-19 17 it says “‘17 Anyone who takes the life of a human being is to be put to death. 18 Anyone who takes the life of someone’s animal must make restitution-life for life. 19 Anyone who injures their neighbor is to be injured in the same manner; 20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. The one who has inflicted the injury must suffer the same injury". Here God is giving them these laws and demonstrating his justice. In order to atone for sin in the old testament there had to be a blood sacrifice. So people would have to get a perfect animal without blemish and offer it as a sacrifice for their sin. After a certain people broke the laws and sinned so much that the could not sacrifice enough animals to cover what they had done. So instead of condemning all of them to an eternity away from him he became a man through Jesus Christ and followed ALL the laws perfectly, never committing a sin, and became a perfect sacrifice that could cover the sin of all humans. The New Testament is the new covenant that states we are no longer subject to the Old Testament laws because Jesus fulfilled them for us. Let me illustrate the principles of thinking in the New Testament. Matthew 5:38-42 38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[a] 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." Matthew is referencing Leviticus 24:20 and saying we are no longer subject to those laws. 3) As for Jonathan & David, and Naomi & Ruth, these are not homosexual relationships. Not even remotely close. I don't know if you've actually read these stories but Jonathan and David had a strong fraternal relationship and to say it was homosexual is a stretch. Especially considering that one of David's biggest flaws was his desire for women to point of killing a soldier in his own army just to have his wife. Ruth & Naomi were both widows and had a mother and daughter relationship. Ruth was married to Naomi's son who died and then marries Boaz and Naomi cared for their eventual son as is her own grandson. There was nothing sexual about their relationship. Also even if that were the case, that does not mean God condones it. King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. God specifically told him this was not okay and that it would lead to his downfall and indeed it did. God didn't even want the Israelites to have a king but they insisted and he allowed it not because condoned it, but because they asked for it. 4) As for relativism I'd have to disagree generally speaking. Are there things in life that are a matter of preference? Of course, but there specifically outlines for many things. The existence of absolutes is proof that things are not relative. Do we always know the truth? No, but what we do know has been outlined for us. 2+2 will ALWAYS equal 4 no matter what circumstance or what someone thinks. That is an absolute truth. Everyone in their heart of hearts knows murder is wrong. There's nothing relative about it. Killing and murder are two different things. Murder has real and true intent. Stealing is always wrong. Taking something that isn't yours can never be justified. God tells us what the moral absolutes are and then gives us a general framework to deal with everything not specifically listed, for instance getting a tattoo or an ear piercing. Those things are necessarily deemed wrong or right, it is up to the person. If we live in a world where morality is relative there is no instance where you can definitely say I have done something wrong. Whatever I do is good for me and whatever you do is good for you. It sounds good in theory but practically it is a big issue. If I feel throwing my trash out the window is good for me because it's easier than taking out the garbage a problem will arise when people see it and smell it. With no standard for good, everything is permissible. That's why God gives us a standard. Final note, God loves EVERYONE and treats them equally. This is explicitly stated in the Bible. Romans 3:22-24 "There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28 "28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Just because he loves us does not mean he condones our sin. But he would never ostracise us or shame anyone who has put their faith in him alone for salvation. If anything in this message sounds disrespectful or condescending in anyway that is not the intent. I thank you for this fruitful and cordial discussion!
@@JMBOYTVthe only problem I have with this is man’s interpretation of the Bible is the only their interpretation so who can say they are right. I know theologists have spent hundreds of years doing this but I’m not convinced their interpretations are factual. The song is a call-out about the treatment of homosexuals by the majority of churches but specifically the Catholic Church.
