Folks, those of you waiting for Oakland Gardens to get the 30 litre containers back in stock for the deal, They have now had an order that is still available 10 containers delivered for £33 use code simplify33 at checkout. www.oaklandgardens.co.uk/heavy-duty-containers--30---130-litre-35881-p.asp?fbclid=IwAR3laGTzMFGuXxpBPIq5MF4DWoRhKHEjn6HOChejL6Ppsr3Xq9wd1uhgZ0g
Tony, any tip on how to get these containers to Chile? there is another place that sells them?
Ordered 10 just the other day, discount code worked a treat and delivery is today, thanks so much, appreciated 👍
The ones that came recently looks like they've had another upgrade and changed the holes in the bottom again
Finally, a video that covers planting determinate potatoes in pots. Thank you! 🙂
Glad it was helpful! check out todays video on potatoes I think you will enjoy it. ruclips.net/video/L1rf1FXtI9s/видео.html
Folks, You have all been amazing and today received a message from Oakland Gardens to say they have completely run out of these containers. Their next delivery has been expedited and will be available in the first week of April. They apologize if you have missed out so far.
Oakland has sold out, because Huw bought all of their containers.
Oh dear. Was about to order them. Do you know if they will have the same deal and if so can I pre-order?
Perhaps you could do a generalised deal with them - like 5 or 10% off all those type pots with your code? Those 30 liter pots are a great size but I would also buy some of the larger ones if it were a similar deal. Cheers
There is nothing like these pots that I can find in the U.S. I really want to get some of these awesome pots somehow.
Let us know when we can get them in 🇨🇦
I used all your advice and after just 10 days of putting my starts in their containers, I have sprouts breaking the surface!!
This is my first time attempting to grow anything and I'm so excited that it's already successful. THANK YOU!!
Thats the best method! And those containers!!! Wish I could get those in the U.S.
I’m working on getting them there Brian
@@simplifygardening Thanks for making these potato videos! What would you recommend currently for people in the US?
I was just going to post this.
@@geniusatwrok I recommend that you take a container you already have, drill more holes, and set them on bricks.
@@chinatownboy7482 that's just what I have been doing. I also use spent nursery pots, but they don't have handles, nor the volume.
I'm definitely going to try this. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Simplify Gardening, I just wanted to say thanks for another great upload and thank you for teaching us so much about gardening. You are one of my favorites on this platform and you do great!
You are very welcome
I couldn’t agree more…Tony is the best! 👍
I've bought 50 using your code Tony! Really looking forward to properly learning about growing potatoes in containers following your fab videos🌿
Your lucky Huw Oaklands sold out in less than 48 hours lol you will love using them and it will free up beds for growing other stuff mate

Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Well put together video sir. Thank you for doing what you can for all of us here in the States, we very much appreciate it!
My pleasure!
Your instructional videos are some of the best on the internet. Thank you!!
Thanks for helping us Tony. I will let you know how my harvest goes this year! Never grew more than a few golf balls before. Lol
Fingers crossed!
Just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and help for everyone! I've just ordered my 3rd set of 10 containers for growing potatoes again this year, after last year's was such a success! Brilliant buckets!
Im so glad your seeing great results :)
Thanks Tony,I have just ordered my second lot.
You are bang on with the drainage as my last lot are draining well.
Your videos have taught me so much thank you 😊
Glad Deborah as long as your getting value I am happy
Hi Tony, please upload a video of these potato seedlings when they started showing the leaves and another video when it's time to harvest.. this is the exciting part, harvesting time . Thank you 😊
I have playlists full of each step so check them out
I'm gonna give container potatoes another shot this year
You will be one Happy Gardener
Just harvested my first ever container grown potatoes - 30th May 2022 - Jazzy and 1st June Charlottes.
I am very pleased with the results of 70 day 2nd earlies - just over two pounds of Jazzy and all of which are all that ideal baby new potato size. The Charlottes again 72 days but just over two and a half pounds but about 6 quite large spuds which will end up being roasties while the rest varied from egg size downwards but only a very few real tiddlers of no use. The main thing is they are perfect while my ground grown potatoes last year suffered badly from wire worm so very happy with results and a big thankyou for all your tutorials and advice as I can vouch from results it is, in my mind the way to go just as you have advocated.
Thanks again
John NT
Cheers Tony, I've been growing my spuds in containers and bags for the last 2 years and will do again in 2022. Your videos are an inspiration and I've learned so much from your channel. All the best to you for the new gardening season
Glad to help
Got my pots a few weeks ago, and didn't realise they were the upgraded design! Really appreciated your offer code :)
Glad it helps you Lucy
Thanks my sowing tonight . Forgot over the weekend. Cheers
Get them done
Thank you Tony. They say that timing is everything. I've just watched this and, as I needed some good containers, I have placed an order for 10 buckets. Hopefully they will be as good as I anticipate them to be. Time will tell.
Glad it was helpful Jim I had an email from Oaklands this morning they are already running out and had to stop selling on ebay so you folks can have them lol
Great video, Tony. I had good success with potatoes in grow bags last year. I like the idea of sturdier containers. I haven't seen buckets like that in the States, but will start looking.
They arnt there Scott but trying to sort it as so many want them after watching my videos
I have searched all over. they are no where to be found on the internet. I suppose I will need to try the grow bags.
Can we get these in the us?
@@simplifygardening Have been looking for something like this in the States for years. Please do let us know if you find anything like this.

I was going to grow my spuds in ground this year, but that really is a good deal you're promoting - so back to pots it is for me. Just bought 40 of them with your code. Cheers!
Awesome Rafe they are brilliant you will love the quality when you get them
First year on my allotment this year. And you randomly popped up on my recommended. Great videos, and i have learnt so much already. Thanks for all your advise and tips !
Congrats on getting into gardening, You are going to love it. Welcome to the channel. :) Tony
Thanks for the great review of the container features as well as the instructions for planting! 🌱💕
That’s an awesome deal on the price! Wish we could get it here in the USA!
I moved to spuds in containers two years back, after watching your videos, much less faff than in ground and better results too.
Its so much easier right?
Thank you Thank you Thank you Tony, I just received my first 10 and I am delighted with the quick delivery and the quality is the best. I have been using growbags but from now on I will be using these tubs. When they are availableagain I will place further orders will gradually replace all my growbags.
Great should be first week of April
I have the flat bottomed ones and just drilled extra holes in them. The new ones are brilliant for slightly burying them, thanks for the head up Tony 😁🌱☀️
Glad to help
We planted our first earlies using this exact method. With a couple of modifications lol
Awesome information Tony !!
Cheers Jason and Colleen 🌱🥔🤞🌱
Thanks both and thanks for the impression yesterday :)
Morning Tony wow love those pots, I have my pots on a raised table (rabbits 😭) that is webbed metal so lots of run off ability. It was finally a bit dry today so I got 8 pots done and will do more in a week or so. Thank you for sharing as always all of you stay safe 🥰.

Hi, from Kansas. I enjoy your videos so much and this next spring I will try growing potatoes in those pots that I am going to order. I tried other pots but the potatoes didn't produce well. The pots will make it so much easier for me to harvest since I've had some back surgeries and not getting any younger either, I'll be 77 soon. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of the world.
Hello Tony like you’re videos as they’re always informative. I like the design of the new pots but I think a lot of the problems with drainage is down to the perched water table when the pots are in the ground there is a lot of contact with the soil which acts like a wick allowing gravity to overcome capillary action and will work in reverse when the pots get dry. But on a hard standing you don’t have that luxury so what I’ve done is cut some capillary mat into strips and put them in so they come out of The drain holes when I’m potting up or you can just poke them in the holes if you’ve already filled the pots. the amount of extra water it gets rid of is quite remarkable and seems to deal with the anaerobic layer which I used to get. Keep the video’s coming always enjoy them
Yes i agree and mine wont be on a hard standing but it was mentioned for those who wish to free up growing space
Tony you are the king of potatoes! You inspired me to try them for the first time last year; and unfortunately i had to dig them up early due to Early Blight.
(So, PARTIAL success.)
This year I'm focusing my limited garden time on other crops, but will need a good plan to prevent early blight for next year.
I'm in the Midwestern USA where it can get hot and humid in summer.
I will be covering blight later this year so make sure to stay tuned in. I am also in the middle of making a course on potato growing
A big thank you for all this info, Tony, I am now going to grow some potatoes for the first time, and order some containers and compost etc, and will let you know how I get on👍
Best of luck Gillanne I hope you have an awesome harvest
I've got a few tubs of really early potatoes in the greenhouses. But still need to get the main bulk planted in buckets this week. Great video👍
Yeah I did my mains the day after
thanks for the tip on double levels! I never thought of that! And just in time cause I am planting them tomorrow.
Glad I could help!
Excellent video and I love the design of those new pots. Please keep us blokes from across the pond when they are available, thanks. 😀
I will di
Just bought a pack of 10. Can't wait! Thank you for the discount code:)

Tony a great video, i did some in containers for last two years. I do in sacks too. Trying Ruth Stout method this year too,and traditional way. I do love the containers, as can just tip out when need for dinner. Thanks again Tony.
I’m also doing lots of different methods for a course I’m filming
Hi really enjoy your videos 👍. Just had 10 x 30L containers delivered from Oakland Gardens they feel very sturdy and the design of the drainage holes is great also they were a great price compared to my local stores and garden centres so many thanks for the recommendation. 🙏🏻
Glad to hear your happy Allan
Thanks for reply. Will use my own compost in that case next year. This years is already spread on veg beds,, lol just ordered 10 of your 30lt buckets, as already bought 7 others from Amazon which were more expensive,so thanks for that too. Love your videos, so informative, and straight to the point. I only look at yours and Mr No Dig, Charles Downing, and take bits from both of you!
Thank you Jane. Charles is a master at no-dig
Love your potato videos. Keep em coming! For us who live in other parts of the world I think it would help to frequently mention
1. Your average last frost date
2. Npk of blood fish bone which is uncommon in USA
3. Weight of fertilizer you use rather than just visual handfuls
These details would help to make reasonable substitutions.
I can't argue with your results but for 2 years I also cannot repeat them or even come close.
Thanks again and looking forward to your next video.
I will sort that out for the next potato video ;)
My 56lb sack of BF&B says it's 5:5:6
It's about a cup altogether in each bucket for the fertilizer. In the US, I mix blood meal, potash from the woodstove, and bone meal(this year I've bought azomite, which is from an ancient sea in Utah).
I hope these make it to the states one day, love these pots!
Working on it
Deep fried or french fries are a treat. Mashed is nice and can be made into potato pancakes.
Yeah lots of ways to use the humble potato
Brilliant and just in time for this year’s crop… 👌🏻
Yes it’s perfect timing
This will be my first time growing Potatoes in containers and my second time growing potatoes in my lifetime. Last year I got a small crop of Red Norlands. Set them out to dry and when I returned, my puppies were finishing off the last two. Who knew? I’m excited to grow them in containers. We don’t have the ones you have, but I found some cow mineral tubs. They’re a bit larger without handles, but I drilled several 3/4” holes along the sides and 8 - 1/2” holes in the bottom. Should work fine. They’re food grade and black.
Great I hope to see you getting a great crop
Hi Tony once again thank you for another awesome video,I have learnt so much from watching your videos. I have planted up my potatoes although how they will turn out is a (wait and see) as I dropped my seed potatoes and my main crop and first and second early got mixed up🙄. I hope I got them sorted right and hopefully got the right amount in each container. I have got shoots breaking the surface so I'm keeping my fingers crossed . Im having a binge watch so im off to watch your tomato video😃 happy days!
You keep watching Norma ;)
Another great video Tony, I had 10 of these containers with the new bottoms from Oakland delivered yesterday, pity I did not know of your code when I ordered, as it was my first order had no idea they were new bottoms. Only have a very small garden and have made a concrete base area which used to house a 3 seater swing seat into a container grown veg plot, large enough to hold 10 of these containers, charlottes are chitting away, this will be my first attempt at container grown gardening. Find your videos very informative.
Derek go to my website and sign up to the newsletter at the bottom of any article and you will get the new code each month for all oakland products simplifygardening.com
That's a great offer on the buckets, free postage to the Highlands, just brilliant, another great video.
Thanks Karin :)
Just ordered 10 using your code, I'll be making a massive amount of leaf mould compost mixed with copious amounts of rabbit manure this Autumn and will hopefully be able to grow a load of 'Dwarf Sunray' jerusalem artichokes in these next season, iv'e grown them in the old pots for 2 years and they do really well as long as the pots are kept mulched and shaded from the sun.
Hi Tony, great video on potatoes. Thanks for sharing and take care 🙂
Thanks, you too!
Finally proof Ive been doing something right with the bfb feed! 😂 Cracking video. Those tubs are amazing! If I had room I'd be buying those! 😁
Glad your getting it right Jen

nice tony i'll be doing that next weekend in 20 gal. bags and 5 gal. buckets good luck here to good harvests!

G'day my friend. Those big containers have truly served you well, but I love those feet in the bottom of the containers. Way cool. I want to thank you for your support by watching my channel and leaving your thoughts 😀 Have a nice weekend your friend Marty
Thanks, you too Marty. Keep picking them worms mate. That reminds me I need to build a new worm farm, I gave mine to my father before winter
I wish we could get those new buckets here in the USA.
Nice one Tony and nicely explained. I think all my buckets have those feet but not so many holes as these new ones you have, I drill my own holes and drill out the existing holes to allow roots through. I prefer to grow them on a soil or no dig bed, it allows for better drainage and access to further water in dry times. Very good price for those pots though, considering they are a new design etc...Steve...😃
Yes it is and all those holes will allow more roots through
containers on the way thanks
Ordering these for my second earlies this week, need some space so these will defo be an investment :)
Waw really nice and informative
Amazing harvest of potatoes 🥔 that you always have. I just watched the video from grape vine allotment where Danny is referring to you.
Ah yeah Danny is back at mine on Monday to help me finish the fruit cage off
I like the modifications to the new containers but it looks easy to modify your old containers by making more and bigger holes. As well, you could place your old barrels on a gravel or stone bed.
Yeah you could
Much love and respect from Ireland containers at the ready
Thanks Patricia nows the time
Nice.
Good afternoon Tony, hope you are keeping well, I've just purchased 2x bags of Levington compost from Tesco £4 each or 2 for £6. Talk about false economy, both bags were full of twigs, stones and small bits of black bin liner. Thanks for your fantastic helpful Vlogs👍😁
I had this with some I got from Aldi,£4 for 40 L thought that's good price..... It's full of bark...hasn't been left long enough to break down.... I've got 160L and no idea what to do with it.
I have put some in with some fruit bushes I've had to move so put 1/3 in the bottom...which will hopefully still break down.
Bearing in mind I got some with John inns £5 for 50L so the same money equivalent but hell it's 1000x better.... To the point I got a couple of bags to try and since I've brought another 16 bags as need lots, new starter this year and doing lots.
Hi Kevin. this is my reason for testing
I live in USA, and the buckets I use are from cat litter, and they have ridged bottoms too. If you get cat litter, you get FREE buckets! I just drill holes myself.
Great video again Tony, stay safe 👍 🏴
Thanks, will do! You too
Order placed nice one tony
Great stuff Scott
Thanks Tony, learnt about buckets from you last year. Putting it into practice this year. Also very interested on peat free experiment. As second year at gardening...I must confess that I bought some peat compost this year...due to fact it was much cheaper. Also making my own compost too... hopefully I too can get away from peat. Where can I buy your book?
It will be on Amazon and book shops when released
Hi Tony..well timed for me..got some Charlottes chitting and was wondering when I could plant them in my tubs. 👍 Job for this weekend. Great video ..well explained..Thanks
Glad to help Gail. get them in this weekend and you wont be far behind me
Those are some nice buckets. 👍 I haven't found anything quite like these buckets here in the U.S. so this year I'm going to try 10 G root pouches.
Thats about the right size Steve let me know how they do
After miserable performance in my no-dig bed (that everything else seems to like) I've followed your lead Tony and got some tubs practically identical to yours - I didn't know about the sponsored store offer, sorry! - and sowed 8x Charlotte a week ago. I've used half Westland New Horizons and half old garden soil (from bags in the garage), loosely mixed with a double helping of fish blood and bone. I'm hoping the clay soil will impart some minerals, it sure as hell hasn't got anything else to offer. Looking at doing another two tubs of maincrops this or next weekend. Fingers crossed!
Tom I think you will see a marked improvement in containers
Awesome share
Thanks for visiting
@@simplifygardening wel come dear
Interesting, I'm gonna try your method in my 15litre pot, 2 seed potato in 2 levels
Sounds great!
Tony, you're killing me! I can't find anything like this in the new pots in the states. I'm using some that are similar to the old ones (but no handles) and the rest of my potatoes are in grow bags (thanks for the tip on making sure they drain well!) and one patch in ground. I also should have listened about having some sort of support, as a few of the plants are starting to fall over.
In any event, put me top of the list if you find a way to source those pots to the states!!!
im working on getting them there mate bare with me
hi, useful as usual. I remember that you said in a previous video that peat free wasn't very good! I'll be watching for the results! Great bins BTW.

Hi! This is one of the best videos I have seen today! Keep uploading such great videos. I look forward to more of your videos my friend. Have a wonderful day! Stay Connected. 😊
Thanks I’m glad you found value in my video
I live in Alaska. In Anchorage, we have mild summer weather with lots of light, not heat like Australia.
I’ve learned a lot watching your channel snd this is the first year to try your method. You got away from peat? My mix is: 1/ each soil, peat, and compost. Now I hear compost is best!
peat is in the process of being banned here
Best of luck with your potatoes. I wish we could get blood, fish and bone organic fertiliser here in South Africa. I love the new bucket design.
Is it something you can buy individually and mix yourself Rene
Yes then Tony 👍👍👍
What a fantastic new design hey Tony!! I've just done another bucket of my first early Cassablanca today and will be doing 2 buckets a week for the next 3 weeks. I do exactly the same as you and add blood fish and bone. I have been reusing last years compost though at a ratio of about 40% old 60% new plus the blood fish and bone and a long term slow release specific potato fertiliser.
Can I ask, an I ok with that mix / blend of old and new compost?
Thanks again Tony
P.S. when is your new book out please and where will it be available to buy?
Many thanks
Phil 👍
Yes your fine Philip just add a little extra feed to offset the old compost
Love your videos especially the potato growing ones. I plan to move much of my potato growing into containers. This year I grew 18 different varieties of potatoes. However the ones I planted in the ground ended up with a great deal of scab. Can you tell me why that would happen? And especially how to solve it.
I am your new friend wow amazing very nice sharing😍😍😍👍🏻👍🏻👌👌👌❤❤🌹🌹🌹🤗🤗
Welcome to the channel 😀
When it comes to potatoes, this guy knows his chit. 😀
Lol
Another great video. Love those containers. I've been growing in 5 gallon buckets and 10 gallon grow bags for the past couple of years since I started watching your videos. I'm having great results and the harvest is so easy. Thank You! I've always meant to post a question about compost. I'm in the U.S. Most compost (including my homemade compost) seems much denser than what you are using. It actually looks like it has some peat or coco coir in it because it is so fluffy. What are the ingredients?
So much easier this way
