While Claus's death was heartbreaking, I feel like a more tearjerking death from Mother 3 is Hinawa's. I know that it was at the beginning of the game, and we barely knew anything about her. Hell, her death didn't actually occur on-screen. But Flint's reaction is what sells it for me. He reacts how any man can react upon hearing that his wife was just impaled through the heart. He falls apart in front of his friends and twin sons, still recovering from their own near-death experience. The way he pounds the ground in frustration absolutely broke my heart, because I felt that. I felt his pain in that moment.

Any game can have a sad moment, But something about Nintendo’s execution of these moments is in a class of its own. Each one of these deserves to be remembered as what gaming can be, how, through the years, Nintendo has made us feel connected to these characters as if we were adventuring right there with them. Video games connect in a way that other media simply can’t, and I think that because of this these moments are so effective. I remember crying at each of these that I played and ones that I haven’t even gotten around to still made me teary eyed.
To be honest, I think a remake is the only way we're gonna get Mother 3. No current platform supports GBA games. But please Nintendo, don't pull an Earthbound and only release it in Japan and the USA. Europe exists too!

No character in Nintendo canon has as much grief, sadness, and depression than Lucas. First, he had to witness his own mother die. Then, he lost his brother the first time consciencely believing its his own fault for not stopping him. Next, he was forced to watch his while village become corrupted by the Pigmasks. Then finally, he had to witness his brother die in his arms after commiting suicide. Lucas is by far my favorite protag in a video game, and he needs a damn hug.

Ironically enough, Luigi's death from the ending of the Grand Theft Mario skit from Robot Chicken was sadder than his death from SSBU's Castlevania reveal trailer.

Any game can have a sad moment, But something about Nintendo’s execution of these moments is in a class of its own. Each one of these deserves to be remembered as what gaming can be, how, through the years, Nintendo has made us feel connected to these characters as if we were adventuring right there with them. Video games connect in a way that other media simply can’t, and I think that because of this these moments are so effective. I remember crying at each of these that I played and ones that I haven’t even gotten around to still made me teary eyed.

The Rob deaths hit so hard as a die hard Subspace Emissary fan
No character in Nintendo canon has as much grief, sadness, and depression than Lucas. First, he had to witness his own mother die. Then, he lost his brother the first time consciencely believing its his own fault for not stopping him. Next, he was forced to watch his while village become corrupted by the Pigmasks. Then finally, he had to witness his brother die in his arms after commiting suicide. Lucas is by far my favorite protag in a video game, and he needs a damn hug.
Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy always gets me. I love those games :')

The music when luma sacrifices her self in super mario galaxy really makes it more sad
Berkut and Rinea from Fire Emblem Echoes was one of the saddest IMO, you should have included that one.

JUKumo yeah. It really is one of the saddest death scene of the series. You even have to fight the burned Rinea to add more misery and pain
Ironically enough, Luigi's death from the ending of the Grand Theft Mario skit from Robot Chicken was sadder than his death from SSBU's Castlevania reveal trailer.

The Little Luma death hit me the hardest. It brings back memories of losing my little companion, a young dwarf rabbit I used to own.
I never thought I'd feel bad over a bunch of robots, but that part in brawl made me lose it when I first played it. And the next time... And the next.
