There’s a couple things that might’ve happened with your bread, usually you need to warm your liquid to 110 degrees to get your yeast to activate and/or let your your dough rise twice, once in the bowl, then you shape it and put it in the pan and let it rise again. Love your videos and your money saving tips!
You have to warm the liquid before you put in the yeast. It usually also needs a sweetener like sugar or honey as well. You added cold milk. It should be between 95-110 degrees to get the yeast going. Even the instant yeast needs warm liquids to “active”. 😀 hope this helps and your next loaf turns out great!
Hello, you’ll need to warm your liquid first before adding your yeast. Sugar or sweetener is also recommended for yeast to get activated. Avoid adding salt with the liquid ingredients. Add that to all your dry ingredients. Works every time
I got many, many, many years ago a Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook and it has most basic recipes in it including your Scalloped Potatoes and much , much more !!! Get yourself a copy and relax 😊
Liquid too cold yeast won't activate. Too hot it kills the yeast. I always make sure my yeast is active first, give it a little sugar to feast on, and it should rise quickly! Good luck 😊 thanks for your videos! ❤
Hi Abby I agree that the milk needs to be warm to activate the yeast. One thing that helps my bread to rise is after I form into rolls or loaves, I cover it with a tea towel, put it in my oven and turn on the oven light. It’s surprising that only the light will warm the dough and help it to rise. Try it! 💖
Your mixer thing actually can lock into place. When you lift it if you switch to lock position it’s easier to scrape all of that stuff off! Hope that makes sense!
One tip when working with packaged yeast, always proof your yeast. Let it sit for 10 min or so in your warm liquid to see if it is alive before you add in all of your flour. If it starts to bubble up them you know you are good to go. I have found proofing helps if it is cold outside as well. Cold can slow down your rise so proofing helps to shorten that. Good luck and happy baking!
❤For your bread rising issue, it's the temperature of the liquid. Luke warm, 110° or so is needed in order to bloom the yeast. Your meatloaf and potatoes look so yummy!
I love love love your shelf cooking videos! That’s how I found you years ago. Great video today. ETA: your bread turned out fine after all. Still tastes good. You can cut it in cubes and let it dry on a cookie sheet in the oven then grind it in your food processor and make your own panko crumbs.
Make sure the water isn’t too hot and proof it first before adding into the flour. Also when you cover it with a towel check to see but if your oven has a proof setting on it stick it in the oven and it will quickly rise.
"somebody help me". Funny 🤣. You have lots of fan love - they provided awesome suggestions. ❤ Blessings. Thank you for sharing these recipes. Have a blessed day and beautiful day 🥰
I warm my water before putting the yeast in and I cover it with Saran Wrap and a light towel. I also leave the dough together in a bowl and kneed it after the 2 hrs and let it sit for another 2 hrs and then put it in my baking pan.
Meatloaf for my family is ground beef green pepper onion salt paper garlic powder onion powder and crushed crackers egg and splash of milk! The topping is equals parks ketchup water and a little brown sugar and black pepper!
Hey Friend, Happy Saturday. I really enjoyed these shelf cooking ideas. These ideas are great for saving money and for using up ingredients that we have at home so they don’t go to waste. ❤
Everything looked good! No worries about that bread looked good anyway you will get better with practice. I love when your little guy looks in the camera and smiles so cute…
Rising enriched dough sometimes takes a looong time. The butter makes it “enriched”. It may need a longer rise since you used cold ingredients. It doesn’t keep the dough from rising but it takes longer, but because of that longer time you actually get a tastier bread! You can buy a huge brick of yeast at Costco (hopefully yours has it!) for around $10 and then freeze it and keep it for years. I got mine about 3 years ago and it’s still kicking. I never proof it with warm water because a few years ago I saw Paul Hollywood from the Great British Baking Show say that the cooler the water the better the flavor 🤣🤣 It apparently stuck with me.
When I make bread I heat the liquid to 110, add the sugar then the yeast. Let it set for a few minutes to "bloom". Then add to your dry ingredients. Keep trying. You'll get there!
Also your bread doesn’t necessarily need sugar, there’s enough in the flour but it might take awhile to rise. Many bread recipes don’t use any added sugar.
Most likely your bread did not rise because the liquid you used for the yeast was too hot or too cold. That used to happen to me all the time until I got a digital thermometer. Your liquid that you add your yeast to has to be around 110 degrees. Also I always add 2 teaspoons of sugar. Sugar helps activate the yeast. Digital thermometer will help greatly. Also if you have an instant pot you can proof your dough on the yogurt setting. It takes much less time for dough to double in size in the instant pot.
Would love to see content on what you feed Van or how you got him to eat foods? Would love to see some baby content. Love your content and advice videos. 🤍
I make a variation of your meatloaf. Instead of bread crumbs I do brown sugar oatmeal packet, with brown sugar and vinegar in the sauce. It’s sweet and tangy
I just want to say you are such a good person. Van is so adorable...watching his mommy cut up the potatoes and than eating his oatmeal cookie. I've been watching you since you were pregnant with Sybil. I love you with babies maybe go for a 5th down the road :)
maybe you either didn't use enough yeast,or your liquid was to warm, that can kill the yeast..I hope you get it figured out abby, everything looked so yummy. those potatoes ❤❤
Add your milk, honey and butter to a heat safe bowl and microwave (heat) to about 110 degrees. Then add the yeast let sit to bloom about 5-8 min should be frothy/foamy and be able to smell the yeast. It’s ready to add to the other ingredients. Once dough is mixed and comes together normally you let it rise in a covered, oiled bowl until doubled in size. Punch down or turn dough out onto a floured surface knead until smooth and divide dough equally for your two loaves put in prepared loaf pans and let rise again then bake. From how I have seen ppl do it anyway.🤭🤷🏽♀️💁🏽♀️👩🏽🍳🍽️🍞 So I agree with @momontheball2970. Everything looked delicious and the bread still looked great!!👏🏽🙌🏽
So for your bread you need to have warm water or I see you use milk so warm up 1/2-1 cup of milk it needs to be around 110 degrees so not to hot but warm, add your yeast and what ever sweetener your using so if it’s honey or sugar add that to feed the yeast, once that’s foamy about 5-10 minutes then add the rest of your ingredients and let rise. Hope that helps I make bread weekly and feeding your yeast frost always works.

My thoughts exactly
Exactly what happened with me!
I was going to say this, as well. Need to bloom the yeast in a lukewarm liquid.
I was thinking the same thing.
Yes the yeast won’t bloom with cold liquids.

I'd agree with others, you need a warm liquid to activate your yeast and I also do two rises with my bread. Love your videos!

A must have.... Thrift stores often have it 👍

Mix the yeast with warm water or milk first (in a seperate little bowl), Let it sit until bubbly/frothy then mix with your remaining ingredients
Make sure the water isn’t too hot and proof it first before adding into the flour. Also when you cover it with a towel check to see but if your oven has a proof setting on it stick it in the oven and it will quickly rise.
Our favorite meatloaf is a hello fresh recipe! It’s a balsamic meatloaf, you can find it online

The milk needs to be warm to the touch then add the yeast for 5 minutes then combine the rest of the ingredients
Add the salt with 3rd cup of flour. It will kill the yeast if you add it to the wet mix.

Shred a carrot cook it microwave for 2 minutes and add to meatloaf. Add ketchup to the mix too. I make the minis and we enjoy them.

I always learned so much and I'm so inspired after watching your video. You're a true gem! Wishing you a year filled with happiness and success. 🥰🥰

Knead like need. Bread is such a picky thing sometimes. Kinda like no bake cookies everything has to be perfect.
If you like heat keptuu and some hot sauce mixed in is good
Going to try the bread and homemade scallop potatoes 😊
I love scallop potatoes but I have never made them from scratch. I need to try this!
Everything looked so good. I have never made bread so I don’t know why your bread didn’t rise. Thanks for sharing.
Love your shelf cooking videos! ❤
I just made your bread recipe last week. My family loves it. 😊
People always says making bread is easy. I just find it messy with flour and I am always undure how much to knead etc.
Loved this video! Reminds me to open up my pantry and start shelf cooking!
Amazing, love it! Cant wait to see more
I love all your cooking videos and meal planning! That dinner looked so yummy! I need to start making my own bread too. 💖
At Home with me was a very good video
Kitchen aid recommendation that kneading no higher than #2
Yeast needs warm milk (around 110 degrees, no hotter) in order to rise. Did you by chance use cold milk?
I microwaved it to make it warm 🥲
I loved this video! Please make more like this ❤
I absolutely love this video!!
Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family!
maybe you either didn't use enough yeast,or your liquid was to warm, that can kill the yeast..I hope you get it figured out abby, everything looked so yummy. those potatoes ❤❤
I look forward to your videos every week. 🤩
Bread came out looking good anyway
Knead is pronounced just like knee and need.
Those cookies look so good 🙃
I would wait longer.
Those Oatmeal Cookies look very Tasty 😛

Ok the bread looks great tho!!
For your mini meatloafs--It's "Who's Your SIster Sauce" 🤣😅😆

❤️❤️
I think you may need a Bread Machine🤔
Sorry for your bread. Your yeast is no good. Test yeast by putting yeast and water and sugar in a bowl. It should activate. Yours in not ativating.
Get a bread maker?
You should wait till bread cools to room temp before slicing---Just sayin .....
You pronounce kneading like needing.
