Bought my first NB back in 2014. Bright green haha. Well I have gone thru about every grovely board made. From All of Lost’s newer shapes and the CI Pod Mod etc, and I ended up back on the NB2 and it’s my favorite board hands down. Also rode the nb3, but I still like NB2 best. I like the original nb better than the 3 honestly. Thanks for the great review man!!
Just got the NB2 in PU standard glass 5' 9" standard dims - wanted more durability and weight in choppy/textured conditions at my local break (El Porto). After a few sessions I can confirm that at 31 liters this board paddles and catches way easier than my last board at 34 liters (Tomo Evo) which is strange and cool. Those CI guys definitely know how to make a well balanced instrument. Thanks for all the great reviews! So hard to choose!
Would love to see Noel take out 3 additional favorite surfboards of 2018 to see if they can handle 8ft+ like the NeckBeard2. Having that one board quiver is such a rarity and great find, especially for those of us on a budget or often travel.
Noel is a great surfer and he has valid insight on his boards. Everyone is different though and I just wanted to add my 2 cents here if anyone is looking at the NB2 for a potential new board. I'm 5'9 170 and am LOVING my 5'9 stock Spine Tek (31L). I wouldn't be worried about going too big on this board to be honest. If you're surfing quality waves you probably don't need the foam. If you're surfing your average SoCal beach break through the year, and don't mind the extra foam for paddling and getting on plane a little quicker. My thought is that it's better to have too much speed than too little. This board absolutely flies and if I need to burn speed, it isn't that much of an issue. It pivots nicely off the chop tail when you need it, but also the longer rail line (matching your height) makes it a great daily driver when the surf is waist to a bit over head. The board works great in knee high stuff, but feels the best between chest high to about 2ft overhead. I'm sure it would work great in bigger stuff but haven't had the opportunity. Riding in the AM2 Tech Flex Future fins. The NB2 has the straight outline and flat rocker which will feel very different than a conventional short board. You'll be trading some maneuverability for speed and flow , which should go without saying. Highly recommended board and would recommend it in your standard length without question.
Noel, Excellent Reviews! You should be on payroll for CI, Lost, Pyzel, Futures, FCS, etc... because your reviews are giving them incredible sales spikes! Your audience will be stoked for you to make a living doing what you do so well. The integrity of your reviews will not be tainted by the funding because the proof in your reviews is always in the pudding ( the video footage). Plus, the reason that you are such a great asset to surf companies and the public is that everyone knows that you tell it straight (and from knowledge/testing). CI or Lost should at least collaborate with you to create a signature Noel Salas board-- they can call it the "Favorite Drink" model. And have you tried the Stretch Quads? They are some of my all-time favorite fins. Please get 'em in a review
I’ve seen all your surfboard reviews and initially came to the conclusion I was always riding the wrong board for the day. Now I know I’m just riding the wrong waves. we spend all this money on expensive equipment when really all I wanted was an average board with average fins and awesome waves. Great revews Noel 👍🏼
JVA Excellent waves with long rides make it easier to fine tune equipment and dial in your surfing. Technique and good surfing habits take a while.... so getting on a wave that allows multiple maneuvers will help. Find a good wave and pair it with the right equipment equals happiness and better surfing over time. Cheers
i would encourage anyone buying the board manufactured at the Australian factory to order a custom with extra glass, the extra light glassing on the stock boards dings and pressure dents extremely easily, my board is covered after 2 months of use its pretty damn fragile, even dents from duckdiving....apart from that i love the board, cant believe how well it paddles!
It could be selective memory, but it seems like I haven't seen you surf better than you are on the Neckbeard. And as a fellow guy getting older, that speaks volumes about that board.
For the community: been riding the NB2 in spinetek as a DD and has taken my surfing to the next level. I've never landed an air but this board will make you try. I'm 6'4 and 190lbs and ride the 5'11 stock dims. Paddles better than my hpsb and spinetek is a lot more durable than PU. For Mr. Salas -- going to Nica soon and was wondering how'd you like the nb3? I have the Two Happy and wanted a second board in case it snaps, but the nb2 doesn't do so well in hollow Beach breaks or size. Was thinking the nb3 would be a good idea with the rounded tail to keep things calmer for bigger/hollower waves. Thanks! And feel free to ask questions anyone here about the NB2.
I appreciate the breakdown of how the same fin template can have different personalities and ideal conditions depending on flex and construction. I also found your interview with Britt pretty insightful and a cool behind the scenes look to a piece of surf history that's now evolved into a surprisingly refined and versatile board (despite that bit of an eyesore tail hehe)
Daniel Perlaky Cheers for the kind words. The tail is a bit strange looking but incredibly functional. Britt made that interview fun..., had a great time hanging with him.
Got one last week. Get's up and goes right away. Good planing speed but surprisingly responsive. After riding twins, quads, and twinzers for several years I'll need some more time but looks to be a possible all time fave. Another good recommendation fron S n S
@@MrB1019 yes Legit 5 foot Oside north side of the pier. The city made an incredible sand bar by dredging. A good South pushed in by a lesser West made for 4 days of some of the most legit slabs in years. I'm pretty big. And I found that my NB2 was really hard to paddle in early. I always felt late. I'm sure it has a lot to do with riding chunky fishes for years. But it held in on solid overhead barrels. Super responsive and drivey. Not even a little sketchy in solid barrels. Except for paddling, one of my all time favorites.
I think I saw some secret RW footage snuck in the middle there. lol. Epic review yet again Noel! The Spine-Tek looks spicy under your feet. Great break down on the fin choices like always. Gotta get me some of those betas once they are back in stock. Yew!
We evaluated square tails and found they pivot turn well. The reason for a square tail is to ride a shorter board with more parallel rail line. It rail turns like a longer board but pivots off the top. Everyone in my group preferred a swallow tail because the tail sinks more in a rail turn. The board you are reviewing was ridden by Corky Caroll at pipeline in the 1970's.
great stuff mate - blessing from hossegor France - when im back in town im off to get one of these - the first one i owned was the best board ever - super stocked to see it back - catch you in the water in 2019 - God bless from me and the family - Rich
Dayum! Noel, don't get me wrong, you're always ripping. But this? This is straight outta flowtown! Not sure what kind of sorcery Britt applied to that board but man.. it looks fun. Another great review. Yeeeew! :D
Hey Noel, I know that this review is a year old, but as someone with lots of CI experience, I think your design idea of shortening the carbon strips in the tail will lead to a potential buckle point where the central strip and the rail/tail strips are supposed to overlap. I've seen spine-tek break just above the center strip (toward the nose) before and I would be worried that a back footed surfer would buckle it at the tail just above where you cut short the carbon strips. My working theory is that the spine tek transfer the stress along it's length and once beyond it's length that's a potential weak spot. It's a great construction, but I think that interplay on the tail keeps the board strong. Curious if you ever got Britt to make you one the way you proposed and what your experience was?
Josh Ellis Nope.. they did come out with the Blue Patch shortly after my time with Britt. Not saying they got the idea from me either... however the blue patch on the toe side works good enough.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 I can see...ripping. Also, good call on the fins you told me about for the Lost PJHP...threw in the large Reactor fronts and medium rears... Boom..!! So good..!!
Hi Noel, Just got my NB2 a couple weeks ago. Here it is my review (to all of you also), and notice I am just coming out from a Lost Psychokiller (PK), both with 29L, and 5.9. I do prefer Lost Carbon Wrap over the SpineTek, mostly because the Spinetek gets the board to stiff (at least for me), also I do believe Spinetek floats a bit more, PK paddles a bit better and its easier to catch waves (in my first 2 days it was quite difficult to catch waves on my new NB2...). Now, the NB2 is much more looser, I love it in the pocket (it is really fun the way the tail gets released), and goes over flatter sections much better (PK used to stop). Surprisingly, NB2 handles bigger waves better (I already surfed from 1 to 7 foot waves with it). Overall, NB2 is a great board, but would be even better in Carbon Wrap :)
hey noel, i was wondering what you would recommend for my board in the NB2. I am 5’11 flat 155lbs & intermediate surfer looking for progressive surf in socal (oceanside, san clemente & Huntington). i am trying to decide between the NB2 in 5’7 stock dims (28.1) or 5’8 stock dims (29.7). At my height and weight in your opinion which height & volume for the NB2 as my daily driver in 1-7 surf?
@@jaccpottt3269 If your Sampler floats you good then go 5’7”. The NB2 is fast and loose and best in 1-5’ surf. The 5’8” might be hard to control in overhead surf with all the speed the tail creates.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thank you brother🤙🏼 when the waves get overhead maybe if i threw on the AM1 or AM2 techflex speed control fins would that help control it more?
Final got a neck beard 2 Noel. Had it in two great sessions already . Beach breaks around head high. Really exciting board to surf. I find myself pushing my turns more and generally surfing different on this board ( in a better way ). I hear there’s a neck beard 3 about to be announced. Very excited to see it .
Your surfing looks sharp! How would you compare to the pyzel gremlin? I’m looking for something to surf in 1-4 that is fast and still high performance.
Kris Rasmussen Both boards are sick... the Gremlin paddles a little better and might be a little more user friendly. However the NB2 promotes progressive surfing in the pocket and above the lip.
Love the reviews Noel! Have you considered trying different spots on the same boards? I think allot of boards would work well at 2-4 foot lowers but put the same board on a fatter face or hollower wave elsewhere and it would be a different story. For example the neck beard in 5 foot soft lowers holds well but might struggle in a 4 foot punchy spot.
ron stuff We will try boards at beach breaks over the winter time. When we shoot beach breaks we don’t usually get much footage in a day and we try to drop a review every two weeks. In the Summer time we were dropping a review weekly. Your point is valid but we might get less footage and less board reviews done.
Thanks Noel for the deep insights and analysis. I think this is on my list, I am just doubtful as CI in Europe outsources to Olatu (Pukas) and I have bad experience with boards' durability; but spinetek may be a solution to it. I was wondering, which other SWPBoards with a medium exit rocker have you tried and would recommend, from any shaper? Cheers
Surf n Show Reviews - @Noel, looking for some perspective choosing between the cymatic , phantom, and neckbeard 2 as a go to board for California waves. Seems like the neckbeard might have the largest range (never would have thought that with the tail shape) with the playfulness in small waves. But your reviews of the cymatic/phantom show that they are quite versatile as well. Seems like you couldn’t wrong with any but curious if you’d have any subtle thoughts on differentiation between the 3? Thanks 🙏
I have to say it. Usually I don't like ci , they brake really quick and I road better boards than the ci I tried over the years , but this is the best surfing I've seen u doing for the last year.
Hi Noel, I have the RW and the board is sick on 1-3 ft surf. Would you think NB2 would be a good options as a step up for 3-6 ft ? Keep rocking on the reviews, it is outstanding. Best in the web for sure. Cheers!!
Great review of this new model Noel! Comparing the same board in the different construction variations gives an honest perspective of what will suit the best for everyone. I'm 5'10, 195 lbs; I surf as much as I can, but I make it a point to get in the water every week, this last month I've put on a lot of hours in the water with all the great swells and conditions we've got in SoCal; what dimensions and construction would you recommend me for surfing around here? I really like the normal PU construction with the Large fins, as it feels like home under my feet, but the Spine-Tek construction looks like it would spice the quiver!
Another great review brother! I’m so conflicted now bc after your Slater Designs review of the Cymatic, I thought I found my next board. After this, I’m wondering if the Neck Beard 2 might be better. Thoughts between the two? Thanks for the awesome knowledge as always 🤙🏼
Tomek Kosalka You have real problems... deciding between two sick boards. The Cymatic is so fun to ride such a short board with a HPSB feel. The NB2 has progressive surfing all over it for me. If you want to surf more progressive in 1-6’ surf then I would go NB2. If Tomo’s Designs are a mystery to you and you want to give his boards a go then the Cymatic is a blast. Maybe try to demo both and then pull the trigger.
Heya Noel, just wondering what fin you would now call for the NB2, a raked fin like the MF fin to tame the square tail during turns or a real upright fin to counter the boards propensity to surf horizontal? My guess is a construction with a little less flex would hold better and perhaps not an AM2 type fin where the back fin is smaller (so it doesn't slide too much). Some friends and me are keen to hear your thoughts on this, particularly: upright vs raked for the NB2, and having the same size back fin (not a smaller one) so it holds. Cheers!!!
I'm calling this the POP without the Spring I took this board out on Monday, Memorial day where the waves were shoulder high on the bigger sets. One thing I like to do is take a board out on crappy days to see how well it performs under less than desirable conditions. I caught fun waves on this board but it was nothing of what I expected, let me explain, With a board being that wide I like to see that get up and go right out the gate and this board didn't have that for me. The board honestly felt clunky. When a good section did come through and I got a chance to experience it in the pocket, the board came alive at the top of the wave with good pop and can be thrown around pretty easy, however it lacked the spring that something like the cymatic or even the rocket wide had infused into it's design. If the wave didn't offer much punch then the board was slow edge to edge and tended to bog fairly easy. However, if the wave had some kick to it then you got to experience how fun it could be. Right now I'm surfing the Holy Grail by Hayden Shapes cause I took a trip up to Huntington, were the waves can very easily amplify so I wanted a board that can handle that so that's why I selected the Holy Grail. Sadly, I think I would have had more fun on the grail than on the NB2 Board Wars Holy Grail vs NB2 The Grail bends over and goes booboo on the NB2 thumbs down on the NB2 Pros: fun when the waves have punch and are clean Cons: in my experience: not an all rounder and most def not a quiver killer, missing that spring on the bottom turn(better on the backside), tail feels too stiff, too much carbon on the tail, lacks get up and go, does not help you catch waves early enough being that it's so wide, rails tend to bog easily if wave doesn't have much punch to it.
Hi Miguel, great report. In reading all the comments I think I might be the only person who doesn't like how Noel surfs on this NB2. I am considering a holy grail. Can you please tell me how is the HG paddling ability?
@@goog646 Sure Glad you liked the report, Okay so here are the nuts and bolts of your question, The board can be a surfed on smaller days if you're mid intermediate over above because the board is whippy and can get into those small crevices of a wave really fast and it will allow you to get those quick turns in smaller waves. The paddling can go either way, In my opinion, I would rather grab another board on smaller days unless I was surfing somewhere punchy like snappers or Blacks. It's not the best paddler because of the pointy nose although there is ample foam upfront, again if you're already a good paddler then you should be fine but a lot of times I find myself riding the wide point because everywhere else is thin and I have heard this from other surfers as well, meaning riding the board more up towards the front on smaller flatter days, hope this helps M.
@@dkilla01 thanks so much. I have surfed for 43 years and I surf 5 to 6 days per week, so I surf reasonably well. I have ridden only short boards (and that's all I want to ride). My current board is a Baby Buggy (all time favourite) but at age 55 I would like to paddle into waves sooner. Do you know if the Holy Grail paddles better than the Baby Buggy?
Great review Thinking about custom 5’7” X 19 1/2 X 2 7/16 I’m 5’6” 170lbs Will it still be able to do quick turns and bury the rail? (Worried about how full the rails will be) My black baron by JS is 5’6” and works perfectly.. Thank you always taking the time and answering my questions.
Hi Noel hope your well. I just picked one of these up but need to dial in some FCS fins. I just had my first Surf on it in 2 foot junk but I only had the Mick Fanning FCS 1 fins in Large which was'nt working at all. I'm quite abit heaver then you so would you say I should stick with large fins for this board?
Another great review Noel, appreciate how in depth u go with these boards. Surf n Show is my goto when buying a new board. Noel which board floates and paddles better the neckbeard 2 or the OG flyer?
Aloha Noel, How does the spine-tek compare to varial foam in terms of resistance to pressure dents on deck and discoloring of foam/glass; also performance of course. Mahalo nui for all u do for da community!
Hey mate, almost ordered a rocket wide after the last review, now I don't know lol.. is that tail user friendly or could it be hard work for a lesser surfer who isn't always on rail through turns?.
Hi Noel, I have a CI Sampler as my small day board. I just found a second neck beard 2 in perfect conditions, and I was thinking of getting it to replace the Sampler to get a better grovel board without losing performance. I can't afford both boards. Do you think it is worth the swap? Cheers, sick channel.
I’ve been looking at the NB2 for awhile now but before I decide to purchase it, I have 2 questions: Is it worth the extra money to buy it in spine trek in terms of durability and overall feel? And also what fins do you recommend for best performance on this board? Thanks!
For the spine-tek EPS construction with this board, would you recommend CI's stock ultra light glassing layup (4oz/4oz & 4oz) or their standard stronger one (6oz/4oz & 4oz)? Do you think that little extra weight added from the thicker standard glassing could be beneficial to the spine-tek board for the 2 ft - 6 ft wave range? Thx
Mitchell Wilkinson A little more weight will be a little better in bigger surf. It will also take less pressure dents and last a little longer. In 1-2’ surf you might feel the weight a little and have a little less pop though.
Hi, Noel great video as usual. I was looking at the CI website and I don't think you mention it in your video but the options are of some considerable extra costs, spine tek +$130. Flex bar +$190 . Do you feel these options are value for money and have you tried and varial foam boards as that is a $295 upgrade!
krusher74 I know I do not mention the cash upgrade but to surfers who want a little more pop in their turns, more flotation, or more durability then The extra $ is worth it.
krusher74 Yes I have used the Varial foam and it’s pretty sick but not worth the extra cash from my perspective. It doesn’t hold up much better compared to EPS or PU. Go to our website and watch the construction review I did a couple years ago. Under the “construction” tab. I surf the CI Sampler model in 5 different constructions and one of them is Varial Foam. I also did a separate review on Varial vs PU.
Hey Noel. Nice review. You can really see the difference between the honeycomb AM1 and tech flex AM1 in the spine-tek. I'm riding a bunny chow right now with the Dane large captain fins and love it, but at times it feels a bit too loose for me. I was wondering if riding the AM2s would tighten it up due to the increased sweep in the template. Have you tried the tech flex AM2? Wondering if they would give me more hold and allow me to push harder in my turns without sliding the tail.
Andrew Ratchelous Absolutely... the AM2 will tighten it up a bit. More rake, surface area, and more fin depth. The Tech Flex Large felt really stiff to me though. They felt good in bigger surf with more power. You might want to just try the AM2 in Honeycomb.
I’m trying this board out in the morning (memorial day ) the CI truck is at RC Trestles so I asked myself why not stay one more night here being that they have this board in my dims and in spine tek
Hey coach ! One question please , Would you suggest the neckbeard 2 for someone that would want to start practicing airs ? Or do you have a top 3 list ?
Great reviews as always. What dims do you rekon for me: I’m 5”11 and 154lbs. I’m having a really hard time trying to decide which dims would suit me. I’d be surfing this board in 3-6ft conditions. Thanks a lot from Aus, and keep up the good work
Marley Mondzheyovsky I think 30 liters might be a little much for your weight to turn this board quickly. The Twin Fin your riding now I am sure feels fast and loose because it’s a Twin Fin. Maybe your range should be roughly 28-29 liters on this NB2.
Hi noel . Really love your surfing. Did the eps core feel more “chedery “, then the spine tek ?. I was thinking of giving a chance to the fever spine tek. I surf waves that could be choppy .what do you think? Thanks a lot 🙏🏾
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks! I ended buying a Neck Beard 2 yesterday. Honestly the most fun I've ever had on a new board. And you were right, I don't even do airs and somehow this thing wants to just jump out of the water. Everyone should have one for sure.
Noel, (1) whats your preference the Neckbeard 2 or the Sampler for 2-4 foot average and pumping waves? (2) Also, which board feels more high performance? Thanks
Kapukataumahaka Owheo I prefer the NB2. It has more hold and it can handle more wave. The Sampler is really fun in 1-4’ surf and the NB2 is epic in 1-6’ surf.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 but if you had to choose one since i have a nb2 in spinek tek.. would you still go spine tek in the happy everyday? I ride up to head high usually
Really enjoy your videos! I have been surfing all my life and have ridden many many different boards. I just recently got a Aloha Jalapeño in their linear carbon technology LCT by Aloha Surfboards out of Australia. This board is mental I would love it if you got your hands on one and did a comprehensive review for me it's magic I would love to see what you think. Cheers Tyler
Too much pivot… it will be hard to control. Maybe fun in 1-2’ Beachies for quick pivot for top to bottom surfing. In 2-5’ surf in will lack drive on rail and be hard to control
Mosbys The NB2 is faster and a bit more radical... it helps me be more progressive in my surfing. Being creative and doing different maneuvers is what I want. The Untitled is fast and a bit smoother... so it will have more flow.
I’m about to order a custom board in the spine tech . I’m 5’-11” 185. I am buying this board mainly to practice my airs. When i was trying to order I was confused on how to choose my glass options. This board is going to cost a pretty penny and I would like it to last a while. What glass choice should i get if I don’t want a lot of pressure dings on it yet still keep it as light as possible? Did you have any issues after testing, and what glass job did they have when you rode them? Thanks man! 🤙
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks man! i expect to get some, I just don’t want to go too light and punch a whole through it. I appreciate your vids and the info. 🤙
What do you think the NB2 would ride like as a round tail? Perhaps it would drift less out of top turn? It could then be surfed more aggressively. There must be the odd guy around SoCal that rides it with a round.
Hello Noel i'm on the fence here between this board and the udxl which one do you find more forgiving and versitile as a daily driver in chest to overhead surf? nb2 looks great but might be little too loose for me thanks
Hi Noel, I am thinking about getting NB 2 in epoxy, but surf where rocks are and get a lot dings. Do you like the XTR or your thoughts, I never see much on it from you vs. the Spinetech which I know you love? Thinking XTR since closed cell.
Noel this question may be a little bit different to most but it concerns the glassing of boards.how much faster would a gloss finish be compared to matt on the same model board.im guessing matt is a lot slower and creates a lot of drag.am I right?
Good question... not sure about that one. I would do a little research online for your answer. Maybe check out speed boats that have matte and gloss hulls.
Well I'm surprised Noel.according to some articles I have just read it does actually say that gloss coats create more friction than Matt coats do therefore making Matt slightly faster.hopefully this is true as my new5,8 NB2 has a Matt finish.i can tell by the way the water sticks to the bottom
Matte is faster, and significantly lighter, than gloss. Notice how snowboards and skiis have a grooved base...this is to minimize the suction water (melted ice crystals) creates when sticking to it. The warmer the snow, the coarser the base grind. A perfectly smooth base simply would not slide.
Greaaat surfing Noel! Definitely lots of style and fun to see you! How do the NB2 and the Sampler compare in performance? Rocker wise, the NB2 has a lower Entry rocker, and a higher Exit rocker, and the Sampler has moderate Entry and Exit rockers, Right?
JorgeAndresCoppiano. That would be close... the Sampler might have an edge on down the line speed.... so it’s up to you. Do you want a really fast board that projects down the line better in flat mushy waves then go Sampler. If you want to surf the pocket more and still have speed then NB2.
Hey there Noel. Did Dane’s NB2 have large or medium fins glassed on? I’m 80 kgs and the medium fins in air core felt good but lacked drive to me. I’ve got the spine tech stock 5’8. I put in the performance core lge AM and the board felt mental. Way more speed off the bat and a lot more control.
Richard Embery I am not sure on the size fins Dane has on his board but I am pretty sure his were large. He is a pretty big guy and he pushes with a lot more power then most. If your lacking Drive then a Large fin will fix that....
Hi Noel ripping as always. Have you ridden the NB2 as a quad with the square tail (as it comes in 5 fin set-up)? Would the swallow tail be a better set-up for a quad than a square tail? I'm going through a Bobby Martinez phase at the moment riding quad swallows. I ran a swallow tail design through the custom set-up on the Channel Islands web page and the outline looked sick. Waiting to pull the trigger based on your advice. Cheers Legend!!
Corey Middleton Dang... that sounds fun but no I have not tried the NB2 as a Quad. Mine were only Thruster set ups so no Quad options. It sounds like a good time and I am super curious to how it would go too. Sorry
Noel first of you are ripping on that board wowser. Great review as also. Well I am dead set on getting a NB2 but I am a taller lanky guy so dims on a board like this can be tough. I am 6'2'' and weight 175-180 lbs. and an average/intermediate surfer. Any guidance on stock dims would be awesome, looking for this to function as my daily driver and when needed grovel as well. Thanks Noel!
Kapukataumahaka Owheo I have not tried it... the NB2 pivots quick with a raked fin. No need for a pivot fin... maybe go with a Neutral fin like the Performers or JJF in Futures.

@@surfnshowreviews7777 Ok, thanks Noel, do you think it is worth Spine tech design, as I am intermediate, and not sure if worth it and I will notice vs. PU?
R Watty A lot of my friends are Intermediate surfers and they like Spinetek and say they can feel the difference in small waves. If you surf a lot of choppy conditions then go PU.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 HI Noel, I got the NB 2 at 5'6 27litres, dropped down from 29-30 and works great, I love this board, favorite all time!! i got in STech and wanted cause so lively, however seems not so durable, lease rope ripped a whole in it first time out and dinged again, only had 1 month, and have to let dry out and bummed on down time. My question is- like NB2 so much and want lively feel, what are your thoughts about getting in Varial foam and pu finish rather than epoxy to keep flex, will it be comparable to Stech feel ? i'm 5'9/160 thanks for the killer reviews - top notch bro!!
R Watty Varial Foam with Polyester resin will be sick. My experience with Varial Foam is it still pressure dents like a normal PU though. Flex on the Varial Foam has its own feel... it might take a session or two to get used to it but I really like it. Sounds like your leash string was too long if it tore into your Spinetek foam. Keep that string short
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Cheers Noel! I've just ordered a phantom custom dims. I think the square tail of the nb2 put me off a little. (just checking when you say 6ft are relating to 6ft faces or 6ft being double overhead?)
djconeuk I say 6’ Cali style... maybe 2’ overhead. I think a couple waves on got on the NB2 might have been a tad bigger than 6’ but the NB2 handled it very well. It’s not the ideal wave size for that board and that’s why I said the NB2 shocked me with it’s versatile wave range. The Phantom would go mental in the bigger stuff.
Hugo de Sousa Oliveira The RW might be a little better in the pocket for quick Wraps in 1-3’ surf. The NB2 has the RW beat for vertical surfing in the pocket though, and the wave range on the NB2 is epic at 1-6’ surf. The RW is 1-3’ maybe 4’ max.
Noel right now I ride a 5’7 monsta box absolutely love it but I kinda outgrew it so I’m looking for a new one board quiver would u go with the NB2, the Holy Grail, or the Pyzel phantom I’ve seen all your reviews and love them.

@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks for coming back to me. What if your NB2 was for use year round as a daily driver in 1-6ft, do you think the NB2 performs best bang on your usual 25.5L volume (25L Spinetek)? Just a bit confused as I have seen several pro guys ride it at both their 'normal' volume but at other times 1lt over volume, regardless of wave size.
Tony Miller Year round NB2 would be my first choice. I would go 5’5” Spinetek... that’s middle range for me in my liters. Nothing confusing just keep it simple
Noel!! whats up I haven't seen any of the boards we spoke about reviewed yet. What's up man where you been. My buddy is checking out a Firewire double agent, any thoughts? I've been checking out the Superbrand Fling, Firewire Vader, neckbeard 2, sci-fi, rocket wide, and one model I'm not sure if you remember the Sharp Eye GL-1. what do you think is the best for an NJ surfer coming off an awful injury that really needs to surf? I know its a lot Noel but your the best in the business. Thank you. Scott
scott cuttre I have a Sci Fi coming for review. Super doesn’t want to send two board for each board review, and I won’t do it for one board. We request two board for multiple reasons. The NB2 is amazing....
Hey man. Have you ridden the rocket wide. How does it compare
I'm looking for the same size nb2 PU board. Can I ask your body height and how weight too?
probably the best turn ive seen you do @ 21.5 seconds
Would love to see Noel take out 3 additional favorite surfboards of 2018 to see if they can handle 8ft+ like the NeckBeard2. Having that one board quiver is such a rarity and great find, especially for those of us on a budget or often travel.
Wesley Chapman I agree... a 1 board quiver is rare. I don’t think any other board that I have reviewed can handle the range the NH2 did.
Glad to hear you liked it! I ordered a custom one last week and I'm even more stoked to get it under my feet now!
Please get 'em in a review
caleb odam Thanks for the kind words!!! I just got the Stretch Quads... we will get them going ASAP
The board made your surfing seem really sharp...your rail cuts through the water like a razorblade (0:36) !
Great review as always Noel,
Thanks a lot!
GeniusUnleashed I agree...
Thanks for the review Noel. Inspiring surfing. How old are you?
I totally didn't need another board. But I couldn't help myself after watching this a couple of times. Thanks, Noel!
Emilio Carrasco Yewww!! Let me know how it goes
Your surfing looks so alive with this board, feels like you really enjoying it!
Pablo Fernández I had a blast... sorry the review is over.
I'm ordering one today--thanks Noel! I'll let you guys know in about 14-16 weeks how it goes lol.
@@OmarSurfs-e9v The NB2 is incredible… enjoy!!
Got one last week. Get's up and goes right away. Good planing speed but surprisingly responsive.
After riding twins, quads, and twinzers for several years I'll need some more time but looks to be a possible all time fave.
Another good recommendation fron S n S
have you ridden in 5 foot surf? what do you think of it in that size surf? cheers
@@MrB1019 yes
Legit 5 foot Oside north side of the pier.
Quality content. Keeps getting Better dude. Thanks.
I think I saw some secret RW footage snuck in the middle there. lol. Epic review yet again Noel! The Spine-Tek looks spicy under your feet. Great break down on the fin choices like always. Gotta get me some of those betas once they are back in stock. Yew!
This is the best board you’ve had under your feet. Making it the best surfboard ever made.

This is the best ive ever seen Noel surf!
Amazing review !! that chopped tail works as an extra fin in cutbacks!! now I really want one!!
flakoman27 Epic board for sure... showed me how good it goes.
Nice break down of lots of different options (fins and construction) looks fun as.
great stuff mate - blessing from hossegor France - when im back in town im off to get one of these - the first one i owned was the best board ever - super stocked to see it back - catch you in the water in 2019 - God bless from me and the family - Rich
Richard Ellerington Yeww Thanks Rich. Merry Christmas and blessings to you too.
Dayum! Noel, don't get me wrong, you're always ripping. But this? This is straight outta flowtown! Not sure what kind of sorcery Britt applied to that board but man.. it looks fun. Another great review. Yeeeew! :D
Nimrod Iny Cheers... This board shocked me too.
Surfing looks so good on this board Noel...cheers.
Christian69James The NB2 is legit!!!
I am 5’11 flat 155lbs & intermediate surfer looking for progressive surf in socal (oceanside, san clemente & Huntington). i am trying to decide between the NB2 in 5’7 stock dims (28.1) or 5’8 stock dims
(29.7). At my height and weight in your opinion which height & volume for the NB2 as my daily driver in 1-7 surf?
What volume do you ride on your daily and HPSB?
@@surfnshowreviews7777 on my groveler i ride the 5’8 stock dims of the sampler (28.2) and on my HPSB i ride a 5’10 (29.9)

Noel’s backhand attack is 👌🏼
Your surfing looks sharp!

Great review as usual. Thanks Noel you're the best!
Thanks Noel for the deep insights and analysis. I think this is on my list, I am just doubtful as CI in Europe outsources to Olatu (Pukas) and I have bad experience with boards' durability; but spinetek may be a solution to it.
Usually I don't like ci , they brake really quick and I road better boards than the ci I tried over the years

Rafael Athia The NB2 is a sick Daily Driver for 1-6’ surf. So yes... shred it in 3-6’ surf.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks Noel, see you in the water!!
Juan Sebastián Lozano Spinetek is sick and I recommend it in 1-4’ surf.
I got a demo on the cymatic coming up so I need to a demo with the NB2. Thanks for you insights, all the best! 🙌🏼
Cheers!!!
I'm calling this the POP without the Spring
I took this board out on Monday, Memorial day where the waves were shoulder high on the bigger sets. Sadly, I think I would have had more fun on the grail than on the NB2
Board Wars Holy Grail vs NB2
The Grail bends over and goes booboo on the NB2
thumbs down on the NB2
Pros: fun when the waves have punch and are clean
Cons: in my experience: not an all rounder and most def not a quiver killer, missing that spring on the bottom turn(better on the backside), tail feels too stiff, too much carbon on the tail, lacks get up and go, does not help you catch waves early enough being that it's so wide, rails tend to bog easily if wave doesn't have much punch to it.
It's not the best paddler because of the pointy nose although there is ample foam upfront, again if you're already a good paddler then you should be fine but a lot of times I find myself riding the wide point because everywhere else is thin and I have heard this from other surfers as well, meaning riding the board more up towards the front on smaller flatter days,
hope this helps
M.

How does the spine-tek compare to varial foam in terms of resistance to pressure dents on deck and discoloring of foam/glass; also performance of course.

ben clarke Both boards are mental!!! The NB2 is very easy to surf and has speed to burn. Maybe get to a demo day and try a RW first.
@ben clarke good question!
I like the NB2 better. Yes swap it out
@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks Noel. Epic channel!!
I’ve been looking at the NB2 for awhile now but before I decide to purchase it, I have 2 questions: Is it worth the extra money to buy it in spine trek in terms of durability and overall feel? And also what fins do you recommend for best performance on this board? Thanks!
P Garnier Yes I recommend the Spinetek over PU for 1-4’ surf. More pop, last longer and a bit more durable.
What do you think it would be like riding the width 1/2 inch narrower than stock dims? Thanks
Kapukataumahaka Owheo Going a 1/2 narrower might be ok in 3-6’ surf but you will want that width in 1-3’ surf for speed in flat mushy surf.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks, your a legend!
great review! if you had to compare the neckbeard 2 to any of the current lost mayhem boards that you have reviewed... which would it be?
Michael Shroads No comparison to any Lost board at this time. This NB2 is pretty unique and I haven’t surfed anything like it before. Cheers
You can really see the difference between the honeycomb AM1 and tech flex AM1 in the
spine-tek. I'm riding a bunny chow right now with the Dane large captain fins and love it, but at times it feels a bit too
loose for me. I was wondering if riding the AM2s would tighten it up due to the increased sweep in the template. Have you tried the tech flex AM2? Wondering if they would give me more hold and allow me to push harder in my turns
without sliding the tail.
I am 6 foot 3 and 200 pounds. Roughly Jordy size.

Marley Mondzheyovsky I think 30 liters might be a little much for your weight to turn this board quickly. The Twin Fin your riding now I am sure feels fast and loose because it’s a Twin Fin. Maybe your range should be roughly 28-29 liters on this NB2.
Great, thanks so much for the help. Love your reviews
Hmmm trying to determine the most air friendly board review I’ve seen you do. For small waves it seems you had more release/pivot off the untitled?
Hi noel . Really love your surfing.
Did the eps core feel more “chedery “, then the spine tek ?.
I was thinking of giving a chance to the fever spine tek.
I surf waves that could be choppy .what do you think?
Thanks a lot 🙏🏾
jacob shemer The Spinetek EPS has less chatter... but if your surfing choppy waves often then I would go PU.
I header that if you order spine tech you should drop a bit in volume over the PU? What do you think?
Thomas Schaper Maybe 1/2 liter... so if you ride a PU at 30 liters then go 29.5 in Spinetek. I feel the same about most EPS boards.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks! I ended buying a Neck Beard 2 yesterday. Honestly the most fun I've ever had on a new board. And you were right, I don't even do airs and somehow this thing wants to just jump out of the water. Everyone should have one for sure.
Thomas Schaper Epic
Noel, (1) whats your preference the Neckbeard 2 or the Sampler for 2-4 foot average and pumping waves? (2) Also, which board feels more high performance? Thanks
Kapukataumahaka Owheo I prefer the NB2. It has more hold and it can handle more wave. The Sampler is really fun in 1-4’ surf and the NB2 is epic in 1-6’ surf.
How does spine tek handles the texture and when it’s not completely clean compared to the normal eps and the pu ?
Roughly the same… when the conditions are bumpy I like PU/Poly better than both of the other two epoxy constructions
@@surfnshowreviews7777 but if you had to choose one since i have a nb2 in spinek tek.. would you still go spine tek in the happy everyday? I ride up to head high usually
@@RBNK157 if the conditions are mostly clean then yes. Spinetek lasts longer… PU/Poly does not last
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thank you brother!
Cheers
Tyler
Tyler Killeen Stoked you found a magic carpet!!! I will look it up... not sure about a review. Cheers
Hi Noel. Thx for a great review. How do you think the Machado Pivot Blackstix fins will work on the NB2?
Too much pivot… it will be hard to control. Maybe fun in 1-2’ Beachies for quick pivot for top to bottom surfing. In 2-5’ surf in will lack drive on rail and be hard to control
Hey Noel would you say the Rocket Wide or the Neck beard 2 is the better one board quiver?
Ryan The Rock NB2 hands down
Noel , Neckbeard 2 in spinetek vs Untitled for everyday board (2-5 feet) ? whats your opinion?
Mosbys That’s a tough one... both boards are epic. I say NB2
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks! why is that? more down the line speed less pocket surfing on the nb2?
Thanks man! 🤙
I suggest talking to the crew at CI for exactly what your looking for. All of my SpineTek EPS boards pressure dent so I have no secrets here for you.
Kapukataumahaka Ōwheo It should offer more hold in theory but I never tried one or seen one in Round Tail
Hello Noel
i'm on the fence here between this board and the udxl
which one do you find more forgiving and versitile as a daily driver in chest to overhead surf?
nb2 looks great but might be little too loose for me
thanks
Sam Norrad NB2 is loose, fast, and radical. If that sounds to exciting for you then go UD XL
Hi Noel,
I am thinking about getting NB 2 in epoxy, but surf where rocks are and get a lot dings. Do you like the XTR or your thoughts, I never see much on it from you vs. the Spinetech which I know you love?
Thinking XTR since closed cell.
R Watty I like XTR foam.. sounds like a good call. Get the closed cell foam... it will last longer too
I have a 6'2 pyzel shadow that I love and ride in 3-6'. Do you think a 5'10 NB2 would complement my shadow for smaller surf (1-4')?
Hi Noel, any plans to review the NB 3 or Rocket Wide Squash coming up? Be awesome to see how the new versions compare to the old.
Absolutely... I will be doing both boards. Stay tuned
Yessir... the NB2 can handle bigger surf because if the extra tail rocker and more progressive surfing.
Surf n Show Reviews which does better in 1-4?
JorgeAndresCoppiano. That would be close... the Sampler might have an edge on down the line speed.... so it’s up to you. Do you want a really fast board that projects down the line better in flat mushy waves then go Sampler. If you want to surf the pocket more and still have speed then NB2.
Surf n Show Reviews great man! Really nice from you to answer, I really appreciate it. Thanks Noel! Have more of that great surf and fun!!
Surf n Show Reviews Had another surf with the large fins and the board feels amazing. For me it feels way better wiith large fins.
hey Noel
would you choose the nb2 or the pyzel phantom?
i own already a rw so I'm searching for more performance in bit bigger waves
NotReaDytORoCk Phantom will have more hold and easy to surf with excellent performance. The NB2 is ideal for 1-4’+
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Alright thank's
Thanks Noel!
what did you end of going with?
Hey Noel, what would the NB2 go like with an upright fin like the Reactor, have you tried, would it project in the pocket?
Kapukataumahaka Owheo I have not tried it... the NB2 pivots quick with a raked fin. No need for a pivot fin... maybe go with a Neutral fin like the Performers or JJF in Futures.
Hi Noel,
Yes, looking to replace Chilli. Current quiver:
PM good for small gutless surf-36 litres
Sampler- favorite small wave 1-4= 31 litres- looking to downsize on litres
Chilli BV epoxy 29 litres
Fever- 28.9 litres- not use much yet, cause 90% surf 1-3 lately.
worked my way down from 39 litres and in 31- 29 range, maybe lower, wanting to progress to digging rail in harder and cutback better- surf mainly LA north pt breaks-
Looking at RW and NB2- thoughts on which would be better for me and does the epoxy need a sweet spot to work?
im leaning toward NB2 cause seems much different than my quiver
thanks !
R Watty NB2 is the goods!!! EPS doesn’t need anything special for flex benefits. Maybe your just not connecting with the Chilli.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 HI Noel,
I got the NB 2 at 5'6 27litres, dropped down from 29-30 and works great, I love this board, favorite all time!! i got in STech and wanted cause so lively, however seems not so durable, lease rope ripped a whole in it first time out and dinged again, only had 1 month, and have to let dry out and bummed on down time.
My question is- like NB2 so much and want lively feel, what are your thoughts about getting in Varial foam and pu finish rather than epoxy to keep flex, will it be comparable to Stech feel ?
i'm 5'9/160
thanks for the killer reviews - top notch bro!!
Yo quiero cualquiera de esas tablas!! 🌊🏄🏻♂️ surfeas muy bien amigo! 🙌🏻
Great review Noel, shredding mate!! How would you compare NB2 to the phantom as an all rounder in weaker waves?
djconeuk NB2 better in 1-3’ surf 4-7’ Phantom is better. NB2 1-6’ surf unmatched on any other model tested to date.
Hi Noel. Do you feel the rocket wide os better in the pocket?
Hugo de Sousa Oliveira The RW might be a little better in the pocket for quick Wraps in 1-3’ surf. The NB2 has the RW beat for vertical surfing in the pocket though, and the wave range on the NB2 is epic at 1-6’ surf. The RW is 1-3’ maybe 4’ max.
Surf n Show Reviews thanks a lot. Good work. I do love my Omni, but your surfing in the NB2 made me wan't One.
Sick review as per usual Noel. How would you compare this to the Holy Grail?
Ryan Tibari The surface area in the tail on this NB2 generates so much speed.... progressive surfing made easier for me. The HG is sick too...
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks Noel! I have the HG and am looking for a slighly more grovel-y and speedy boards. Sounds like the NB2 might be it.
Noel right now I ride a 5’7 monsta box absolutely love it but I kinda outgrew it so I’m looking for a new one board quiver would u go with the NB2, the Holy Grail, or the Pyzel phantom I’ve seen all your reviews and love them.
Noah Stone NB2 Spinetek for sure
If you were ordering yourself another NB2, to ride in 1-6ft as your daily driver, would you aim to hit your 'normal' 25.5L volume bang on (getting 25.0L in Spinetek). Or would you still prefer 0.5 or 1 litre more volume? Thanks.
Tony Miller 25 liters Spinetek sounds good to me with Summer coming. If I’m wearing a 4/3 n boots then maybe go up liters by going a little wider.
