- I don't know too much about Jim Hurt, but what I found out is that he made a living writing country songs but never a performer. Until 1980, when he released his only entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where he peaked at #90 with his soulful groove, "I Love Women". It was released on Scotti Brothers Records and it is the only known song released by him (a one-off single by a one-hit-wonder act). It's a great tune which deserved a better chart fate.
this song really didn't do my father any justice.....however he had an amazing voice and possessed a talent that was truly larger than life. he was , and still is, my idol. thank you for posting this .you ROCK !
I was not quite 18 then and, as far as I can remember, never heard the song then, but I've always loved the charts and indeed am in the middle of my own time-travelling review of same right now, which is how I came across this gem. God bless your dad, you, and the rest of your family.
Can i ask what is your favourite song of your father?
I love your fathers singing and writing my first recording session in Nashville was singing on recording project that Mickey Newbury was producing at Magic Tracks for Jim, I was singing back up on the songs. One song I really loved was “ Blades Of Love”
I had a copy of it but, my publisher ran off with it.
Do you have a copy of it? Sure would love to hear it again. Thank you
Eddie Cunningham
He wrote a bop right here sis
I played this song on the radio at WFPA in Fort Payne, AL around 1980. May have been the only station to do so, but it was a cool song then.
Jim was my best friend, He taught me the most and best of what I learned about songwriting. I never heard this single...He was soo modest... I miss him dearly!

Great melody. A very underrated song.
Yes, Christopher! Thx! Clifford Curry recorded it first in 1979 a year earlier than Jojo was released.. It was recorded before JoJo came out...just a coincidence, I suppose...I along with Mike Stewart wrote it in my living room in Nashville. I've always wondered...
Fascinating, Dan. I always loved this song. I'd ask you what your inspiration was but clearly it was WOMEN! Any other tidbits about the song's genesis and Jim Hurt would be appreciated. Always loved this song!
Classic westcoast AOR lOVE IT
This is a GREAT record that should've been a HUGE hit. Perhaps one of the reasons it wasn't is that it sounds very much like a Boz Scaggs hit record from that summer called "Jojo" (listen to them back-to-back and you'll see what I mean). I have the Scotti Brothers, 45 and indeed the flip is "Someone To Put Out The Fire." I owned another copy and sent it to his son some years ago since he had no recordings from his father. In doing some research on the song, I came to find out that Jim was at least part native American and was a foundling who was adopted by a minority family in Nashville and was a very talented songwriter before he died. Perhaps his daughter Nicole can shed more light on that.
Thank you for sending me that record, I cherish it to this day.
"Jojo" had just fallen off the charts when this one debuted.
@@scottlarson1548 yessir Scott. I see your a chart buff like me!
@@christophergranozio8502 Yep my am.
i love this tune !
Yes sir.. 👍
Fantastic 45 from December 1980 in UK but didn't chart.
Two other really minor hit songs released off of Scotti Bros. Records in the 80’s: “Take Away” by Big Ric and “Let Me Sleep Alone” by Cugini (1979, But didn’t peak until in early 1980). “Take Away” peaked at No. 91 and “Let Me Sleep Alone” Peaked at No. 88.

entered Billboard Oct 11, 1980 ..reached #90
The B-side is Someone To Put Out The Fire. Now, this from the 12" maxi version. I'm not sure that song is the same B-side on the 45 version.
