It's 2027. The teaser trailer for the new Bond film has been released. Calvin: "Good evening Mr. Bond fans, in this video I'll be watching and reviewing the brand new Bond teaser. This is the first time I've watched it, so I'm excited to experience it for the first time. I hear they've done something very interesting with this one that the fans have responded to pretty positively. Let's take a look!" * 1962 Bond theme plays * Calvin: 😑
@@calvindyson 24:16 -- Where the *#^%ing hell is THAT deleted scene ? Dalton looks mean and on his way to kill. It's between LAST night's ''I hope you don't snore, Q,'' and ''...Drug dealers of the world unite,'' which is the FOLLOWING night. We see nothing of Bond's DAY, where he sets out his plans. One really bad edit. Just seems like the same night !
If we use die another day as an example. The release between die another day and casino royal was was 3 or 4 years and Craig was announced as the next bond in I think 2005 then casino released a year later. And it’s been 3 years since no time to die. So I would say they’ll probably reveal the next bond possibly in 2024. Then the next movie will probably come out In maybe 2025
To fans who watch a lot of Bond films the 1962 Bond theme may be ‘the 1962 Dr No Bond theme’ but to the average person on the street it is THE Bond theme. It is the instantly recognisable Bond theme that the average cinema goer thinks of as the iconic theme which they also think is used in all the Bond films. In a trailer they only have a minute or two to hook the interest of the viewer so I think they used to lean heavily on the classic Bond theme as a quick, shorthand reference to remind the viewer of previous Bond films and give them an idea of what to expect from a new Bond film. It creates excitement and anticipation. I think this was especially important in Octopussy where they’re tying the film to the rest of the franchise and pointing out that this is the legit franchise which made all the previous Bond movies compared to Never Say Never Again which couldn’t use the Bond theme.
Interesting that they say Connery was playing “Ian Fleming’s James Bond” in the NSNA trailer, because the opening credits for NSNA only credit Fleming in the “based on an original screenplay by” credit - nowhere is he credited as creating the character. Indeed, I assumed Sean Connery was playing Kevin McClory’s James Bond in NSNA - after all, Kev did attest he created the filmic character James Bond.
Yeah, sucks there was a lawsuit that caused the 6 year gap between Licence to Kill and GoldenEye. And therefore caused Dalton to resign as Bond. Otherwise he could've done another 2 films within those 6 years before Brosnan came on board with GoldenEye.
Agree but i'm thankful that his run was sweet, short but sweet. Would be sad if he did a third and it was bad, just look at Brosnan. His first two are great, third outing... i just find the movie (TWINE) boring and his forth and final... i actually prefer it over TWISE. Day Another Day is bad but atleast it's fun, it's bad but i can't help but have fun watching it. But Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies are great (especially Goldeneye)
By the time Timothy Dalton was cast as Bond, action cinema had gravitated towards the Stallone/Schwarzenegger/Willis/Gibson R-rated action era, so the trailers for the Dalton films definitely had to match the momentum for those kinds of films at the time, especially LTK
The voice of 'The Man in the Wheelchair' in the FYEO trailer was actually that of Maurice Binder (who was also presumably in charge of compiling the footage for the trailer)
I believe the padding on For Your Eyes Only was in part due to the intended shift back to reality. That movie was the first to follow Moonraker after all. It was likely intended to show how much cool stuff you can do back on Earth.
As much as I love For Your Eyes Only (it was the first Bond film I saw), imagine how much more shocking it would have been if Topol was the villian? They tried to play up the mystery of the villain in an interview that they did while making the film, but I don't think it was really a surprise to anyone that it wasn't Topol ; he was probably considered too likeable to be a baddie, but it would have been fascinating if they had gone there.
Reminded me of watching the trailers for Ghostbusters Afterlife, watch the trailer and you have pretty much seem 80% of what happens (you can pretty much map out what happens from start to finish)
I suppose the original rendition of the Bond theme is the most iconic, that guitar riff and the blaring brass are instantly recognisable as the Bond sound, and the marketing department probably wanted to capitalise off of that. John Barry’s offerings around this time, more lush and orchestral with heavier use of strings, wouldn’t have worked quite as well I think. Don’t get me wrong, I love Barry’s 80s scores (along with everything else he wrote), but if you’ve only got 2 minutes to sell someone a Bond film, a violin won’t do - you’ve got to break out the electric guitar and play that surf riff. Also, the repetitious nature of using the same Bond theme rendition in each trailer wouldn’t be noticeable to a cinema audience watching these trailers every two years, so I suppose you can cut them some slack.
Very true, BenCol! I guess I’m just so used to hearing the theme on a regular basis but for cinema audiences in the 60s, 70s and 80s it’ll have been a real calling card for the announcement of a new film.
I feel like by this point too the series had made a major comeback and the movies were almost "nostalgic" by this point with their TV airings. They had to play the old theme for the good ol' times.
Fun fact about the Licence To Kill teaser trailer: for that very dramatic reveal shot of Dalton, they put Tim on an office chair and spun him around. Yes, really. Not very cool anymore, right? ;)
you can certainly see the early 80's trailers still have that left over 70's feel and not just from Bond trailers but in all 70's trailers in general where they just show you random action bits with words over laying them and using a british narrator rather than American. By the time you get to the late 80's (and certainly in the 90's) they start slow and then build up to the exciting action moments by the end and they use (i don't know trailer mans name) an American narrator and they certainly have a alot more thought in their marketing for teasers and trying to be more up to date and with the times of other action movies. Tim Daltons delivery for his bond james bond and "better make that 2" is a better take i feel than what we got in the film. According to Oliver Harper you would get TLD and License to kill trailers on the warner home video cassettes a lot, especially with superman 4 and batman. Not sure if you already knew this man, but an unused Tim Dalton gun barrel part was used for the German trailers and it certainly has a Bob Simmonds feel to his jump :) ruclips.net/video/ZcDNxiN63RQ/видео.html. its a lot more clear here ofcourse ruclips.net/video/mntn-sMdtFM/видео.html Does David Zaritsky have that black digital wrist watch timer thingy that Dalton has in the LTK teaser do you know??? I hope you get to do 007 VHS/ DVD/ BLU RAY trailers one day man :), especially the one we got on the 1996 goldeneye VHS. great as always :)
The american narrator you're thinking of is the legendary Don LaFontaine (RIP), whose name was synonymous with film trailer voices. And yeah, those are all great observations for the sea-change in trailer editing during the '80s. I think some of that comes from the general influence of MTV and music videos as they rose in popularity: Once you see that, the old style of trailers seems lethargic by comparison.
@@bigredjanie ahhh thanks for the name :). Good on MTV for doing that huh. but your right in terms of the editing yes. Its very clear that after AVTAK that they needed to get their act together and appeal to the yuong generation and be with the times more and sure that would come from MTV like you say :)
People didnt give a monkey's about spoilers in the early 80s, you'd frequently see money shots from movies in the trailers, spoilers would be revealed in chat shows and I had the Marvel Marvel Comics adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back months before it was released in the cinemas imagine having THAT reveal being spoiled before the film came out it would cause an uproar today!
My favourite example of this is that the novelisation of "The Five Doctors" released two weeks or something before the first part of the episode, so loads of Doctor Who fans bought the book straight away, then refused to read it until the episode was out.
well unless you were a fanatic i assume most people woudnt remember much lol. nowadays you can watch them over and over which one coudnt back then i suppose, so people probably remember more.
Yeah trailers were different. People only saw them once or a couple times and rarely would recall them in great detail. I was working as an usher from 77-84 so I saw them (and the movies) over…and over..and over again!
Thanks for posting this. Have such massive nostalgia for the living daylights trailer being played on Saturday morning tv as a child. Particularly the two successive lines… “eliminate him”… “kill him!!”. Hearing that I’m instantly transported back to being 8 years old.
My favorite trailer from this decade is the teaser "License to Kill". The footage they shot just for easer is really cool. Love the electric stop watch Dalton has on and it then later turning into the title for the movie. Then my second favorite is the theatrical trailer for "A View To A Kill". Yes, the Duran Duran theme song does a lot of the heavy lifting, but its capped off with the questions it asks its audience, "Has James Bond finally met his match?" With AVTAK being the last of the Moore era, that really ramps up the excitement for its viewers. Love 1980's movie trailers, they certainly don't make them like they used to anymore.
I noticed that. It almost felt like a mini-version of the film as they showed way too much footage [it's better when they show little snippets to keep some mystery like 'The Living Daylight's' Trailer].
Opinions On The Trailers and Teasers: For Your Eyes Only- A little bit too long and over indulgent Octopussy- Very Actiony and entertaining A View To A Kill- The Teaser was very bad but the trailer was way better The Living Daylights- Really enjoyed both the teaser and trailer, makes me want to watch the movie soon afterwards License To Kill- Cool, Slick and Actionry in all the right places Never Say Never Again- This music is ugh and the trailer is okay at best
I love in the Licence to Kill teaser, at 24:14 the shot of Talisa Soto doing the card shuffle(?) syncs so well with the music. Trailer editing conventions are so interesting, especially when you see the hard juxtaposition of the A View to a Kill trailer vs The Living Daylights only two years after. 90s had the narration phase, and now we have the "trailer before the trailer" for the online debuts with the rapid-fire action montage to tease you before the trailer starts.
Tim's reading of "better make that two" is different in the trailer as well. I think I prefer the trailer version. Reminds me of the different version of the "part time" line in the "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" teaser.
As a kid, I would devour all of the behind the scenes stuff on the Bond DVDs and when I came to watch the trailers for For Your Eyes Only, I was frightened by the sight of the woman's eyes. Even watching this now, I got a slight chill down my spine from watching the opening to that trailer.
23:00 Take me Calvin! I’d even dress up for the occasion! 🤣 But seriously, even though I stand atop my AVtaK pedestal to this day, those trailers were not fleshed out well. The Dalton ones jumped them a decade plus forward, but still felt totally the best of 80’s (major win). The 60’s bond theme did seem a bit outdated though, even by FYEO, and hearing it as late as the 90’s did give young me a little bit of the “what is this old music and what am I watching?” Vibe. And NSNA?… I need a shower. 😳 I didn’t know I got tickets to a sleazy 80’s Bond skinflick. I like the movie, but I may not have if I saw that trailer first…. Looking forward to the next trailer reviews!
I love these trailer countdown videos. Glad you are going to do more of them. My favourite is the LTK teaser, I love the look and the seriousness of it all (also it is a biased choice) However I love that Octopussy teaser also with Moore goofing about… also the FYEO trailer… Wow a PG rated (or A rated) trailer that featured nip slippery from Mrs. Brosnan. For Our Eyes Only Indeed😉
Thank you! I’m glad you like them. As I think I mention in one of these videos, they’re not extras I tend to watch all that much compared to the feature tree and whatnot but it’s interesting how much ‘original’ material actually pops up in the trailers
@@calvindyson I read somewhere that the reason Melina smiles at Bond just right after the chase is because Moore said to Bouquet “My name is Bond, James Bond. Now do you fancy a f**k” thus making Bouquet laugh.
Bloody hell Dalton's trailers are good. They feel very modern, where's Moore's feel very "of their era", even still feeling very '70s in A View to a Kill. Hell, Dalton's trailers feel more timeless than Brosnan's, which are quite hard to separate from the '90s. Can't wait to see your thoughts on the '60s trailers!
Some of those Roger Moore 80's trailers are so directionless and meandering, just minutes of random pieces of footage ultimately. Trailers have come a long way, though the Dalton ones were marvellous.
Thank you Calvin!! Not only did this make my Sunday but it brought back all my memories of the DVD releases of the bond films from the early 2000‘s when I would get so excited for the documentaries and bonus features!!
Those of us of a certain age loved the 70s & 80s trailers as you could buy them on Super 8 film and play them at home long before you could rent or buy VHS copies of the films. The fact that the trailers had plenty of spoilers was a good thing for us then as it was the only way to see and own Bond apart from cinema re-runs and event TV when ITV started to screen the Connery movies. Hard to believe for you youngsters but our generation used to record the movies to cassette tape or reel to reel so that we could listen to the recordings and picture the scenes in our minds. Oh what a godsend VHS was! Streaming, 4K, Blu-ray… it’s so easy to access and enjoy Bond these days.
13:15 I THINK the rationale behind using Roger’s early 70s gun barrel is because it was slightly timeless looking compared to the TSWLM era gun barrel which was dated since Roger’s flared trousers immediately dated it to the disco era - another subtle attempt at hiding his age since he was almost 60 around A View to a Kill’s release.
And yet they used the one from The Spy Who Loved Me in a View to a Kill which always gets a chuckle out of me, although the same could be said for Octopussy.
I can certainly tell for once that the 80s Bond trailers are the most far more interesting experiences that any 007 fan like me and Calvin can absolutely crave for in such a long long time. This is so awesome that this is best video I have personally ever seen. In fact, I believe the Roger Moore trailers should be the best ones ever in 007 history.
I forgot how awesome the teaser was for LTK... good memories of seeing and getting pumped for that movie to come out. Much like the QOS hard edge energy
With Octopussy not just the nostalgia to sell it against Never Say Never Again… but also it says Roger Moore IS James Bond whereas before he was in the trailers as Roger Moore AS James Bond. Sends a message that Roger is JB and Connery isn’t at this point!
I was certainly hoping for that one too. That 60s Bond theme's so genuine, it should be for all the 007 movies. From Dr. No all the way to No Time to Die.
I love the funky 70's Bond theme. Think it was first used in the awesome The Spy Who Loved Me, not 100% sure but i always think of that movie when i hear it. Did a quick Spotify seach, it's called Bond 77. I freaking love it. It's from The Spy Who Loved Me.
As I’m sure others here might’ve said, I love how they were able to get Peter Cullen; best known for providing the voice for Optimus Prime in Transformers, to do the U.S. trailer for A View to A Kill; especially when he says “Title song performed by Duran Duran”. Also, if I remember correctly, Roger Moore announced his departure from Bond after the release of A View to A Kill. So when it came to marketing and making these trailers, no one knew that it was going to be Moore’s last Bond. So they just stuck to the same trailer format they had done previously.
I can’t wait for the 60s episode considering the early Connery films have trailers that show 90% of the film and tell you 90% of the plot beating you over the head with the fact that this man is “secret agent James Bond 007 killing whom he pleases when he pleases” 😂
From what I remember from back then is that most people would know about a movie coming out from a TV spot, not a trailer, and then if it looked good everyone would be talking about it, and when it came out everyone would go and see it. Most people would never see the trailer, and if they did, by the time the movie came out it would have been so long since they saw the trailer that if there were any kind of spoilers nobody would have remembered it.
Honestly I think the only reason they keep using the '62 Bond theme is so that they can cut to the "Coming Soon" (or to the credits card) on that iconic Vic Flick guitar chord at the end.
It is amazing how EVERYTHING music related to NSNA just hurts so bad. For anyone interested, Rich Douglas on his channel offers a beautiful alternative music concept for the film.
"The animated tentacles are really nice" - Calvin Dyson 2022. Love these videos keep them up! I always love how these old trailers would show entire scenes without context
To be fair I like to point Never Say Never Again good points 1 Sean Connery look better than he did in Diamonds and acted better than both Twice and Diamonds 2. Fatima Blush is Sadistic Evil and Hot and her death is absolutely fantastic 3. Few really good supporting characters Alec McCowan (Q) Bernie Casey (Felix Leiter ) Recurring Indiana Jones Henchmen Pat Roach ( Lippe) and Even Rowan Atkinson ( Nigel Smallfawcet) Well That's all I Got
I agree that Connery gave it his all despite the behind the scenes issues in Never. He is the selling point and it's nice to see him give another great Bond performance in a not so great film. I really like Fatima too, partly due to how OTT she is [definity an influence on Xenia in Goldeneye as was the Laser watch].
These trailers do seem to re-use the 1962 version of the James Bond theme quite a bit, but then again, this is the version everyone knows best. So maybe it's sort of a shorthand for "no matter how old the actor gets, or if we swap actors after a few years, it's still the same James Bond."
Gotta love Bond '77 Great video as always, these are a fun run through of trailers. On NSNA, the score is a problem throughout. It's a pale comparison to Octopussy!
The Timothy Dalton trailers were so good. I like that they used different voices in the trailers. The Dalton turn around in LTK is epic. Dalton is Dangerous.
I think Trailer voiceover man in For Your Eyes Only I think was Patrick Allen who was in The Sea Wolves and The Wild Geese with Roger. He was also the narrator for the UK Government nuclear emergency broadcasts “Protect and Survive” which he replicated on the Frankie Goes to Hollywood hit Two Tribes.
Great video! I love that Thee Living Daylight teaser tells the story of pre-credit action. Dalton is so good in those trailers, If his hair had been more ... timeless (and his second movie had attracted more Americans) I think we would have had a very different Bond history,
It didn't do well as it was released during a crowed summer in 89 [where Batman and Indiana Jones 3 dominated] and audiences were used to Roger Moore's lighter films, not this darker take. But it probably should have done better given drug warlords were among the villains in the novel 'Clear and Present Danger' which came out the same year and was the best selling novel of the 80's believe it or not so it should have been maximum topicality.
I distinctly remember a third trailer for “licence to Kill” in a MTV type cutting and pictures/ framing ***of the characters on the screen, with me in the cinema thinking “WTF is this?”.. I remember because LTK is a top three favourite of mine. *** I couldn’t make this up if I tried.🤨 Anyone else remember seeing this? I live in Australia so it could have been an “International “ trailer...

The A View To A Kill theatrical trailer has the same trailer voice guy as the Cannon Films trailers at the time. I WOULD LOVE to add the Cannon logo at the beginning of the trailer because I think it would fit perfectly. It just seems like a Cannon film production. Lol 😅
There’s a Never Say Never Again trailer that has the Bond theme in it!! Me and my dad were so confused when we watched it for the first time, as we thought NSNA wasn’t allowed anything to do with the proper Bond series!
Interestingly enough, there is another version of the ‘The Living Daylights’ trailer with the 60s music and Patrick Allen narrating: ruclips.net/video/SO2_yM_pE00/видео.html I think the one you saw was for America and the other was for the UK. I think I prefer the US version myself - Patrick Allen’s delivery sounds a bit too formal and old-fashioned, and the George Martin Bond theme works better (hopefully it’s not too sacrilegious to say I prefer the George Martin rendition to the classic Monty Norman/John Barry rendition!)
I agree i prefer the USA narration more. I think because I never grew up in the 60's or 70's, hearing a british narrator for a trailer just sounds unusual and I'm not really use to it
The AVTAK teaser deserves a little credit for the cool Maurice Binder special material at the very beginning. But agreed, The Living Daylights gave us the best of the full-length/theatrical trailers.
Even before looking at the video, I certainly know, that it'll be No Time To Die for me. It's just one of the most epic trailers, I've ever seen. Visually stunning, and you'll have goosebumps from Hans Zimmer's soundtrack.
Talking about trailers the best one on my Warner Brothers Ex Rental A View to a Kill video was always The Goonies and Cobra. They really knew how to sell the movies back then.
I recall in your Licence To Kill debate with David, he said the marketing was Terrible. I honestly don’t see it, that teaser was awesome. But I pretty much agree with your opinions.
That music used in the Never Say Never Again trailer is soooooo 1983. As is the slow mo shots edited to it. I actually like it, it sounds quite Spandau Ballet. I think it's part of Michel Legrand and/or Herb Alpert's score.
For Your Eyes Only: The reason why they used the LALD gun barrel was because the trailer was made in the same format as the movies LADD and Golden Gun. Using the Spy Who Loved me gun barrel would have required adapting it to the format. The change of format was the reason they shot a new gun barrel sequence for Spy in the first place. The female trailer voice in the beginning is clearly Maud Adams' voice. The second trailer voice was the voice of Patrick Allen, who was in at least two Roger Moore movies as well: The Wild Geese and The Sea Wolves. He was also the talking voice in the video clip for Frankie goes to Hollywood's Two Tribes (which was actually taken from "Protect and Survive" series of information films in the mid-1970s. These were produced to inform the public on how to prepare for nuclear war.) Patrick Allen back as the voice for all Roger Moore Bond films of the eighties except for View. I don't know who voiced the View theatrical trailer. And I don't know who voiced the Never Say Never Again trailer. The Timothy Dalton trailers were voiced by trailer voice legend Don LaFontaine.
I think I have the 60’s bond theme engraved in my head now after those trailers. However I noticed the scene used with bond in the jungle in octopussy was extended with him going through spider-webs.
Omg the bloody 1962 Bond theme all the time! I'm genuinely half jokingly/half seriously beginning to think it's something to do some 25 year clause by Monty Norman or something. As if it's written in black and white somewhere that they MUST include his version of the Bond theme for promotional material. It's fascinating watching you react to these trailers! I think seeing them all back to back just really hammers home the fact that EON productions has needed a desperate overhaul of their marketing department for over 50 years now...
It makes me wonder if audiences watching those early 80s Bond trailers were disappointed that the original Bond theme actually wasn't used in any of the films. I know it's pretty much synonymous now but coming off Moonraker and the filmmakers wanted to take Bond back down to Earth, I wonder if audiences didn't take kindly to the Bill Conti score or what John Barry done until he retired.
I don't think it would be that big a deal. There wasn't the same level of 'gate keeping' then as there is now with the internet. particular as opportunities to see the films again were limited before home media [Live and Let Die and Man with the Golden Gun both made there TV debuts in 1980 in the UK]. Bill Conti's score was very much 'of it's time' so it was probably received well in 1981 but does fell a bit dated now.
Never noticed this in the actual film before, but in the bit in Octopussy where Bond flies through the hangar in the jet, is that Gogol's helicopter from For Your Eyes Only lurking outside in the background?
A lot of the difference between the beginning of the 80s versus the end of the 80s is Cable TV with HBO and Showtime showing full length movies more often. And by the late 80s with video home rentals becoming more common place is the reason why the trailers maybe went with the newer music. Before that it would be a couple of years before you would hear or see a James Bond film so you could use the same music
Calvin you seriously cannot complain about the Bond theme from 1962 showing up in the trailer :) That music is incredible. But yes I know that Moore's movies have used a different version of Bond theme.
Calvin, you should do your own retro trailers for some of the newer Bond films. For instance, a QoS trailer where you just repeat “Quantum of Solace!” over and over again, in various ways.
I'd probably rank those trailers the same. I saw TLD teaser trailer back in December of '86 and loved it. Tim looked great and I always loved the LALD version of the Bond theme. The music in the NSNA trailer is pretty funny. I remember it from the TV spots as well. I have a soft spot for both OP and NSNA. I became hooked on Bond that year and got to see both films in the cinema. I have vivid memories of seeing those two films with my folks and our reactions. Great time to be a Bond fan I must say.
It's 2027. The teaser trailer for the new Bond film has been released.

How about a Martini? Shaken, not stirred?
Interesting that they say Connery was playing “Ian Fleming’s James Bond” in the NSNA trailer, because the opening credits for NSNA only credit Fleming in the “based on an original screenplay by” credit - nowhere is he credited as creating the character. Indeed, I assumed Sean Connery was playing Kevin McClory’s James Bond in NSNA - after all, Kev did attest he created the filmic character James Bond.
I didn’t pick up on that! Great spot!

The License to Kill definitely is my favourite trailer absolutely. Timothy Dalton definitely deserved more outings as 007 👍👍

I believe the padding on For Your Eyes Only was in part due to the intended shift back to reality. That movie was the first to follow Moonraker after all. It was likely intended to show how much cool stuff you can do back on Earth.
Moonraker's trailer was pretty lengthy.
Sorry, But DURAN DURAN RULES,!
The continuity of the Moore trailers is something the film series could only dream of!
20:09 doesn't hurt that Living Daylights has one of the strongest Pre-title sequences in the whole series.
If you think kicking the car off the cliff was a spoiler in the FYEO trailer, how about revealing Kristatos as the villain?
As much as I love For Your Eyes Only (it was the first Bond film I saw), imagine how much more shocking it would have been if Topol was the villian? They tried to play up the mystery of the villain in an interview that they did while making the film, but I don't think it was really a surprise to anyone that it wasn't Topol ; he was probably considered too likeable to be a baddie, but it would have been fascinating if they had gone there.
The for your eyes only trailer shows pretty much the whole movie!
I don't care what anyone says, the editing of Walken to laugh and wave at Bond at the end of the AVTAK trailer is fucking fantastic.
Finally something from daltons films at the top of a ranking list, Dalton fans rejoice 🙌🏻
Fun fact about the Licence To Kill teaser trailer: for that very dramatic reveal shot of Dalton, they put Tim on an office chair and spun him around. Yes, really. Not very cool anymore, right? ;)
Get out, really ? I thought it was a rotating platform.
"Weeeeeee! I'm 007!"
Even cooler!
Licence to Kill and that hair. oh my! i do love Timmy and his wolfness
you can certainly see the early 80's trailers still have that left over 70's feel and not just from Bond trailers but in all 70's trailers in general where they just show you random action bits with words over laying them and using a british narrator rather than American. Not sure if you already knew this man, but an unused Tim Dalton gun barrel part was used for the German trailers and it certainly has a Bob Simmonds feel to his jump :) ruclips.net/video/ZcDNxiN63RQ/видео.html.
its a lot more clear here ofcourse ruclips.net/video/mntn-sMdtFM/видео.html
Does David Zaritsky have that black digital wrist watch timer thingy that Dalton has in the LTK teaser do you know???
I hope you get to do 007 VHS/ DVD/ BLU RAY trailers one day man :), especially the one we got on the 1996 goldeneye VHS. great as always :)
Tried capturing the 90’s feel for my trailer for No Time To Die: ruclips.net/video/Rdt5yvGd2cY/видео.html
@@FictusFilmsPROTrailers aww nice one :)
Note the alternate take of the scene when Bond says "I hope you have a car" in the FYEO Trailer. He didn't toss the key away.
Great spot! I hadn’t picked up on that
My favorite trailer from this decade is the teaser "License to Kill".
Love how the trailer didn't even try to hide the fact Julian Glover was the villain of FYEO
LoL :D
I noticed that. It almost felt like a mini-version of the film as they showed way too much footage [it's better when they show little snippets to keep some mystery like 'The Living Daylight's' Trailer].
Opinions On The Trailers and Teasers:
For Your Eyes Only- A little bit too long and over indulgent
Octopussy- Very Actiony and entertaining
A View To A Kill- The Teaser was very bad but the trailer was way better
The Living Daylights- Really enjoyed both the teaser and trailer, makes me want to watch the movie soon afterwards
License To Kill- Cool, Slick and Actionry in all the right places
Never Say Never Again- This music is ugh and the trailer is okay at best
But seriously, even though I stand atop my AVtaK pedestal to this day, those trailers were not fleshed out well.
@@spaceodds1985 😂😂😂 just like Roger!!
A View To A Kill!
A View To A Kill!
....
A View To A Kill!
That's an excellent point.
I've never liked Moore's gunbarrels almost entirely due to those bloody gunbarrels.
And yet they used the one from The Spy Who Loved Me in a View to a Kill which always gets a chuckle out of me, although the same could be said for Octopussy.
Alternate title: Calvin listens to the 62 Bond Theme for 33 minutes
I love the 60s Bond theme. In fact I think it should have been used over the ending of Casino Royale.
When I showed that film to my bf, he was saying "but where's that music! That's why I'm here!"
Amen!
Always a good day when Calvin uploads
I'm old enough to remember seeing the Dalton trailers in theaters as a kid. I can testify to how much excitement they built.
To be fair I like to point Never Say Never Again good points
1 Sean Connery look better than he did in Diamonds and acted better than both Twice and Diamonds
2. Fatima Blush is Sadistic Evil and Hot and her death is absolutely fantastic
3. Few really good supporting characters Alec McCowan (Q)
Bernie Casey (Felix Leiter )
Recurring Indiana Jones Henchmen
Pat Roach ( Lippe) and Even Rowan Atkinson ( Nigel Smallfawcet)
Well That's all I Got
I agree that Connery gave it his all despite the behind the scenes issues in Never. He is the selling point and it's nice to see him give another great Bond performance in a not so great film. I really like Fatima too, partly due to how OTT she is [definity an influence on Xenia in Goldeneye as was the Laser watch].
Wow the octopussy trailer really screams no no watch us we are the real James bond series.
These trailers do seem to re-use the 1962 version of the James Bond theme quite a bit, but then again, this is the version everyone knows best. So maybe it's sort of a shorthand for "no matter how old the actor gets, or if we swap actors after a few years, it's still the same James Bond."
Yes! Love your channel btw!
Thank you very much, Mack! 😁😁 appreciate it!
Gotta love Bond '77
Great video as always, these are a fun run through of trailers.
On NSNA, the score is a problem throughout. It's a pale comparison to Octopussy!
Completely agree on the NSNA score! Even in the trailer the film didn’t escape that curse 😅
I love the edit in the AVTAK teaser where it looks like he jumps off the bridge and lands in the hot tub LOL
I see you with that Quantum typeface, Calvin ;)
I appreciate extra candid calvin at the end with NSNA commentary. Quite amused
The 30 second - 1 minute TV trailers would get me excited.
The Timothy Dalton trailers were so good. I like that they used different voices in the trailers. The Dalton turn around in LTK is epic. Dalton is Dangerous.
Looking at old trailers is wild in general, the style of trailers changes so much over the years.
That music for the NSNA trailer sounds like it comes from a late 70s porn film.
25:40 Felix's wedding really cost him an arm and a leg.
Love that Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime is the one narrating the theatrical trailer for A View to a Kill.
Great video! I love that Thee Living Daylight teaser tells the story of pre-credit action. Dalton is so good in those trailers, If his hair had been more ... timeless (and his second movie had attracted more Americans) I think we would have had a very different Bond history,
Those licence to kill trailers were the best. I’m surprised the movie didn’t do well. Great video! I love this series. Keep up the great work!
*** I couldn’t make this up if I tried.🤨
Anyone else remember seeing this?
I live in Australia so it could have been an “International “ trailer...
You mean this one... m.ruclips.net/video/ph6PdJZstO0/видео.html
It also ends up resorting to the Month Norman theme that the other trailer did.
There's also this T.V Spot... m.ruclips.net/video/8wyfNjTrW-Y/видео.html
For all the arguments that some of the trailers felt old fashioned, this T.V ad feels like it's going too far the other way! It has a little bit of a "Batdance" vibe to it, which may have been intentional when you consider Tim Burton's Batman was breaking box office records at the time.

Notice how it goes from Roger Moore as Ian Flemnings James Bond. To Roger Moore is James Bond

I will buy you a large popcorn AND pick n' mix. From the cinema, too, not smuggled in.
He'd also appreciate a Delicatessen in STAINLESS STEEL.
my favourite from these movies is probably the living daylights so underrated great vid calvin
Do you have a link to this NSNA trailer?
Interestingly enough, there is another version of the ‘The Living Daylights’ trailer with the 60s music and Patrick Allen narrating: ruclips.net/video/SO2_yM_pE00/видео.html
I think the one you saw was for America and the other was for the UK.
Loved the “…barely…” quip, another great video 👍
The '62 theme in the Licence to Kill trailer feels like the filmmakers panicking about the tonal shift
Note to Amazon - please use the 1962 theme in the next trailer just to wind up Calvin.
Thanks Calvin for This and Many fun videos! Looking forward to follow your channel!
That music used in the Never Say Never Again trailer is soooooo 1983. As is the slow mo shots edited to it. I actually like it, it sounds quite Spandau Ballet. I think it's part of Michel Legrand and/or Herb Alpert's score.
“All two of you out there.” Savage 😂😂😂
I love your channel!! Amazing (and fun) stuff of Bond 🙂
Great breakdown! Agree with your assessment and rankings. And yes "woofff" at Never Say Never Again 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣
These were produced to inform the public on how to prepare for nuclear war.)
Patrick Allen back as the voice for all Roger Moore Bond films of the eighties except for View. I don't know who voiced the View theatrical trailer. And I don't know who voiced the Never Say Never Again trailer.
The Timothy Dalton trailers were voiced by trailer voice legend Don LaFontaine.
Patrick Allen is Calvin's favourite Voice-Over. Especially when he describes Kristina Weybourn as looking "as lovely as an Ice-Cream Sundae"
I think I have the 60’s bond theme engraved in my head now after those trailers. However I noticed the scene used with bond in the jungle in octopussy was extended with him going through spider-webs.
The TV adverts for the UK TV premieres also got me excited.
OH WOW THE DALTON TRAILERS ARE SO GOOD!
DALTON = DANGEROUS
Hell yeah. 🍸
😆
26:24 the moment he realized its 62 Bond theme once again after big relaxing thinking it won't return on Dalton's trailers
Love this why has it took me so long well done top review
Do not apologize to NSNA fans. Those people made their choice and have to live with it.
Octopussy definitely Moores best 80s film, keep up the great work Calvin I love all these videos you do and you certainly deserve far more subscribers
