M2 was my first Leica. Took some of the most important pictures of my family with it. Specifically my grandma before she passed. That camera means a ton to me and it’s the reason I love Leica.
Aw man, thats so dope, and great sentiments. I could see why this could hook some people into Leica. I'm just very glad I got the M6 first though. I wasn't ready for that M2 life hahaha.
Congratulations Jae. - FYI - A wife that can keep it real and tell you what you don't want to hear is underrated, GOLD man! I got 20 + years and going strong. HA
Hahaha, appreciate that. Yeah, slowly but surely, trying to really work my way around this medium. I can't wait to start making prints into the darkroom :)
WHAT!? Did we just become best friends? MOM can we make bunk beds? YES! This is the best day ever! 👏 Congratulations! Exposing by eye is rewarding! To be honest I use my external light meter but only half the time! In a typical session, I take an initial reading of the mid-tones of light and anything after if it gets darker or lighter I will just expose up and down a stop. No biggie right?! Oh suddenly a really dynamic spot that requires your utmost attention to your triangle? Take a reading or not? You decide! No light meter forcing its way into your life. A lot of times I forget my meter too. Maybe I take a reading off my phone app.. then the rest of the day is by eye. Ya I fuck up an exposure like once every 10 shots? But whatever! It's more fun that way right? Isn't this why we shoot film anyways? Like a couple days ago I went strawberry picking with the fam. I could have grabbed my M10 and made perfect photos but this is family right? And strawberry farm? So best believe I grabbed my M2, Fuji 100 and my wooliest flannel shirt! Man..those strawberries tasted so much better with my M2 in hand. Life is short. 🤌🏼🤌🏼
Hahahaha...Strawberries and M2's are the perfect match. And I love that you admit to drinking the strawberry kool-aid now. But there is some truth to your jokes, I care less and less about perfection now. Scratched negatives, lint, or out of focus photos...it's all good in my book now. I kind of dig all the imperfections now. I don't throw away the lumpy bruised picks from the field anymore (see what I did there??).
Congrats G. The M2 is a hell of a camera. Probably the best mechanical M body you can get. It's big when you finally accomplish something you envisioned for yourself.
Much appreciated! Yeah, just be holding the camera and my short time shooting it, I can definitely believe the hype. It feels like an elegant simple vintage watch.
Congrats on being where you are with your photography man! I was literally looking through Josef Koudelka's work yesterday and thinking what a badass he was for shooting the Invasion of Prague without a light meter. I can't wait to hear how the veteran M2 compares to the M6, and can't wait to see the results either! Looking forward to the next one!
Im sayyyyyin! How the hell did these dudes do it back in the day?!?! That was my question and quest the past 2 yrs, and I was determined. No where nearrrr the level of those guys...but still something to shoot for (see what I did there?? Sorry.).
Well done! I had one of those too, it is a sweet thing. Now beware, those will breed ... before you know it, you WILL see more lenses and bodies around you. (from the Leica family I now have a 1940s II, a 1970 black paint M4 (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, it could replace your M2 and M6, the best of both worlds), a digital SL, a CCD Monochrom (probably the best - digital - camera ever made), and a small D-Lux). Enjoy, exposing by eye is fun and soon becomes second nature!
Beautiful pickup and loved the flashback editing. More importantly, congrats on the job coming through man! 2021 gonna be a big year for you, no doubt 💪🏾
I did the opposite, btw. Had an M2 for 4 years before picking up an M6. Did an entire road trip through New Zealand with the M2 and a Hasselblad 500cm both without meters and just guessed exposures. Some of my favorite images of all time.
Mannnn, you said it! I took a trip with that same exact setup almost. Had the Hasselbad 500cm and my M6 to Spain and Italy, I fell in love with the simplicity of it all, so I wanted the M2. Bizzare-o world with our Leica story hahaha.
welcome on board..I also have a serious Leica addiction...in the last 5 years I had like 12x Leica M's, and a few m39ers,...but i know...no money for food but for cameras is a serious problem haha. At the end...the most important is the lens and the magnification of the viewfinders depending on the focal length you shoot the most. I really like the 0.72 for 35 nd 50mm. Now, my newest is the M6ttl with 0.58 for the 28mm mostly for street or so. Finally I mostly leave the different lenses I have on each body and sometimes I walk around with two cameras on my neck :P Regards from Mallorca
With a M2, 2021 just got happier. I look forward to your images with it; it’s a lovely beast. Do you plan to use it with a external finder with your 28?
Yeah, I'm super excited. I actually eventually want to get a 28 external finder for the experience itself. But for now, the viewfinder is literally the same as my M6, so i'm just gonna use the entire viewfinder to frame up rather than having framelines.
Take the battery out of your M6 and you get a M2 like :). I have to say there is something with silver Leicas. If you have a black one, you would want a silver one. The M2 doesn’t have 28mm frame line though, so you may run into that inconvenience. :) Since you zone focus a lot, Leica M1 is pretty neat.
Congrats of entering the gear collection phase, LOL. I started with M240, then M6, M3, M4, M5, now I need to have M2 and M7 to complete the time series of analogue LOL.
Got myself an M3 when I could afford to put a lens on it found the rangefinder was way out of alignment, off to the doctor for that one. So I got a blind 'blind Leica' An MDa real cheap and a Voigtlander 25mm with the external finder, Leica 'point and shoot' with your zone focus in mind. Love ya vids
Cactus gaaaang, loving the background! 🌵 Congrats on the addition to the family! How are you liking the 50mm Elmarit so far? And how would you compare the M6 and the M2, other than the lightmeter? Would love to hear your thoughts or even see some videos with some images you took with your babies :)
Cactus gang gang!!! Yeah, I need to put in some more work with my new little babies, alot more work. But I love the subtle differences already. That old rewind knob on the M2 tho!!! Feels sooo much smoother and I don't let go of it and have the knob roll back hahaha. I'll let you know in due time though!
Congrats on the M2! I love mine and its shutter sound is hands-down one of the sexiest sounds out there. I've actually committed myself to it for 2021 (: Btw. I have the external light meter, but I never find myself using it anyway - so, good choice. P.S. I would be interested if you've already tested the 28, and how close it comes when you use the whole viewfinder ✌️
Appreciate it!!! I've compared the M2 with the M6 viewfinder together maybe like 4 months ago, and they seem to be the same, considering both about .72 mag. So the 28 would be the whole viewfinder, I'm sure it will be the exact same feeling and output as my M6. So no learning curve.
Are you familiar with Shōji Ueda’s work? Probably my favourite photographer... I like your content and ethos behind why you are using 100% manual setup 👍🏻 Thanks for your videos. J
Thanks sooo much Talya! Yeah, it's been a good year thus far, through the craziness last year, last year was pretty good too (I try to only focus on the positive though, alot of good happened for me last year too). So I try and always keep this positive momentum no matter what :)
Nice. I have an m6 but am looking into the m3 as my next Leica for its 50mm frame lines also I thought the same thing, learn with the m6 and train my eye then be able to see a scene without the light meter
Congratulations on your new job! Of course also to your M2. 😀 The M2 is a mega camera and only for exposure masters. I can fully empathize with you as I feel the same way with my M3. looking forward to more videos with your M2.
It must be nice!!! I kind of did the samething. I got my first Leica M7 from my Dad, I used it for little more than 10 years, then recently got Leica M-A at a bargain price. I just like the feel of complete mechanical machine. I think I will lock up my M7 for a while and just try with M-A only. :D
I absolutely love your videos!! Great sense of humor while keeping it real! I also have an M6 and ended up buying an M2 to go with it as well! They're similar pieces of kit but also a very different experience!
Man!!! I'm glad you commented. Because when you know you know. Very similar, but completely different at the same time haha. Pretty much all M cameras hahaha (Or atleast that's what all us Leica fanboys tell ourselves). And appreciate the compliments brotha :)
Congrats on the job. Maybe a silly question but couldn’t you have just gotten the complete manual experience for free by removing the batteries from your M6?
Hahaha, of coarse. It was more so, I wanted a back up M body and was still a little too precious with my M6, especially when traveling. Also, there's definitely some unique "little" differences between the M2 and M6 user experience wise also.
Congrats !! Visualizing things we want before we even get them in real life, it's all about the power of the law of attraction. A good model in life my friend. Keep posting vids we need great content PEACE ✌️
Appreciate it!! Yeah, I need to get out and shoot. I'm gonna be cooped up editing a few videos this next week, but when I have a free day to myself, I have to go get it in. Damn youtube!!! haha.
Bro. My first (and actual leica rn) is the M4-2.. everything is manual - except for the shuttercount.. now you making me feel like a beginner for that 😂😂😂🖤
Just looks like my MP. When I got an MP, I hesitated with the MA but if I just remove the battery, I basically have an MA. Why don't you just remove the battery in your M6? Just kidding. Your camera look amazing, in excellent condition. As for the M6, put a roll in it from time to time. These things stay in good condition when they are used. Have fun. Have a good year.
Yeah, the M6 or MP is definitely two cameras that will forever be on top of the street shooters list. I'm practically forcing myself to just meter without anything. It just gets real tricky indoors or in the subways. And most definitely will put a roll or 2 before the years end is done with my M6.
The M2 is the best M camera ever, and the price is actually fair in the market today not like overpriced/overhiped hipster camera the M6. Congrats on graduating from hipster to real photographer. Btw, although I love leica I don't agree that Fuji ripped off leica's design since Fuji has their own rangefinder cameras in the past and there were WAY to many rangefinder cameras that could be the inspiration to Fuji design. And that's right, at some point Canon, nikon, Fuji, Russian cameras all "inspired" by leica when they make their own rangefinder.
for the full manual experience you could have just remove the batteries from the M6 :) ... sooo to justify the new Leica(s) you can rationalise it like this : 1 body for 28mm b&w film, 1 body for 50mm b&w; but then - maybe you have to shoot in colour so: two more bodies . 4 bodies is the absolute minimum ... but then again you might need to do some digital work too :)
I really like your channel for the attitude you have towards life and the honest way in which you share your thoughts and photographic experiences. I'm always waiting for your dumb dumb anologies that brings down any philosopher :) just a question: "sunny 16" helps you to "? congratulations on your new baby and your channel. greetings from lisbon, portugal ps. sorry for my English :)

Nothing says "im in the 99.9%" like being in the Frankfurt Leica Store trying to talk a 1,000 Euro Leica M2 down to 950 Euro and a small Asian man comes in and buys three Leica M9s and three 50mm APO lenses. Then goes to the back of the store for a personal instructions on how to use the camera. He just threw the boxes away and everything, didn't keep any of the paperwork. That was me a long time ago. I can afford more now but damn.... I still just find it crazy how we have to grind and grind for somethings that actually are so small. Congrats though on your Leica.
Always a thumbs up, now that we know you can talk the talk let’s see ya walk the walk! I know you’re in a lock down but let’s see the pictures. Over 13 minutes and one picture of you in a mirror lol. At 64 years of age I don’t have time to be nice, living in Colorado I’m always cold, (cool) these days, sexy? Well let’s just say that ship has sailed so to ask kindly, show more photos! Let’s see that focused eyeball you speak of....Please. Be safe!
Leica M2...mmm...I mean...Beautiful and super solid gemstone but has some details that I do not like. The details that annoy me a lot are: The film loading and the film unloading...I mean...both procedures are nightmares and complicated. You cannot mount easily a modern flash. I am not Bruce Gilden, but sometimes I try that flashy approach. The counter is minimal...too minimal. This is my personal and strict opinion and obviously, you can say "I do not give a $&*=" XD. I am aware that you are ready for the purest photography experience using the Leica M2 and I appreciate it. If I were you I would have bought the fantastic M7. But the Leica M7 is extremely expensive.
Hahaha...I said "more or less." But yes, the idea some day is maybe put some slide film in and really put my money where my mouth is. For right now, I'll stick to my HP5 and Portra hahaha.
M2 was my first Leica. Took some of the most important pictures of my family with it. Specifically my grandma before she passed.

Ayyyyyye, screw photography, I'm tryna be like you in 20 :)
The “It must be nice” shirt 😂🙌🏼
Sounds like someone needs one...I know a guy :)
Focus by feel, expose by eye. Your writting is poetry. :)
Congrats on the new Leica!

It's quite nice, haha, but I was you just 2 yrs ago, so it can happen.
in good hour. congratulations on the new baby hahaha...its a dream to have a leica, we continue to visualize, greetings from Argentina!!!
I understand the manual thing... I have Leica's also.... but why didn't you just take the battery out of the M6.. ????
Honestly, there's just something about the M2 that I wanted. And having a back M camera was really what I wanted :)
Take the battery out of your M6 and you get a M2 like :). I have to say there is something with silver Leicas. If you have a black one, you would want a silver one. The M2 doesn’t have 28mm frame line though, so you may run into that inconvenience. :)

Congrats on the new camera and the new job! 2021 is off to a good start for you.
Thanks sooo much Talya! Yeah, it's been a good year thus far, through the craziness last year, last year was pretty good too (I try to only focus on the positive though, alot of good happened for me last year too). So I try and always keep this positive momentum no matter what :)
With our collective mind, we have managed to get the Leica M6 back into production.
The M2. Nice I had a feeling =) Congratulations!
Hahahaha...Imagine if I get it brassed and repainted...ohhh gawww (just busted).
@@jaeAre200 Would be very nice, get Kanto to repaint the lens as well. Would XXX at that point.
Been shooting my leica M2 for 6 years. It is my main camera along with a 35mm Summicron. Also, my VW GTI is stick :). HA!
Nice. I have an m6 but am looking into the m3 as my next Leica for its 50mm frame lines also I thought the same thing, learn with the m6 and train my eye then be able to see a scene without the light meter
I added a Leica Quick Load Kit, it made my M2 almost perfect.
Usually I have:
M6 + 35mm
M2 + 21mm or 50mm.
Yeah, that's a really really good setup. Can't be mad at that.
Congratulations on your new job! Of course also to your M2. 😀 The M2 is a mega camera and only for exposure masters. I can fully empathize with you as I feel the same way with my M3. looking forward to more videos with your M2.
Yeah, the M3 was on my mind too! But the M2 is much more logical for me...for now haha. And thanks so much, excited for my 2 new adventures haha :)
Congrats on the job my man! I'm excited to see what photos you take with the new full manual camera. I'm no where near exposing by eye lol
Much much appreciated, thanks for the watch and comment. Lets gooooo!!!!
Niiiiice!!! Yeah, the MA looks gorgeous. Makes me wanna paint my M2 because of it (not do it myself of coarse haha).
G.A.S is working on you. M6 can do everything manually too. Admit it, you want more Leica, haha.
4 back up Leica M cameras in a necessity right?
Congrats on the job. Maybe a silly question but couldn’t you have just gotten the complete manual experience for free by removing the batteries from your M6?
Hahaha, of coarse. It was more so, I wanted a back up M body and was still a little too precious with my M6, especially when traveling. Also, there's definitely some unique "little" differences between the M2 and M6 user experience wise also.
Grats. If you take out the battery from your M6, don’t you technically have an M2? 🤔
Hahaha, not quite, but close. It would be more like an M4.
Treat yo self! Happy for you man, congrats on the new job and the new Leica!
Thank you 🙌 Appreciate the watch and taking time out to comment.
That was hippidity dippity good, entertaining and insightful. Thanks dude!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the watch and taking out the time to comment!
Congrats !! Visualizing things we want before we even get them in real life, it's all about the power of the law of attraction. A good model in life my friend. Keep posting vids we need great content PEACE ✌️
LOA baby!!!! Appreciate the kind words. Thanks for the watch and taking time out to comment.
from your story you had us (me) worried of the opposite! congrats on the addition! when do we get to see more of your images?
Appreciate it!! Yeah, I need to get out and shoot. I'm gonna be cooped up editing a few videos this next week, but when I have a free day to myself, I have to go get it in. Damn youtube!!! haha.
Bro. My first (and actual leica rn) is the M4-2.. everything is manual - except for the shuttercount.. now you making me feel like a beginner for that 😂😂😂🖤
Hahaha...mannn, you aint no real photographer if you don't have to reset your shutter count haha.
Solid. Congrats man.
My man!! Thanks alot, appreciate you!
What is Focus by Feel? I only know about the Jae Rose Focusing Method.
Thats what I'm talking about!!! hahaha. That put a smile on my face. Thanks :)
bro I am shooting an M3.. I feel you on this journey. congrats homie. however I only have one lens that I move back and forth. 🤷🏽♂️
Simplicity is key!!!
Congratulations on the new Leica!
Much much appreciated! Thanks for the watch and taking the time out to comment.
The M2 is the best M camera ever, and the price is actually fair in the market today not like overpriced/overhiped hipster camera the M6. Congrats on graduating from hipster to real photographer.

And that's right, at some point Canon, nikon, Fuji, Russian cameras all "inspired" by leica when they make their own rangefinder.
im glad that you get the same camera that i found months ago, now i wanna see more of your videos
Hahaha, well hopefully I do it justice :)
for the full manual experience you could have just remove the batteries from the M6 :) ... sooo to justify the new Leica(s) you can rationalise it like this : 1 body for 28mm b&w film, 1 body for 50mm b&w; but then - maybe you have to shoot in colour so: two more bodies . 4 bodies is the absolute minimum ... but then again you might need to do some digital work too :)
FINALLY someone gets my rationale! hahaha
I really like your channel for the attitude you have towards life and the honest way in which you share your thoughts and photographic experiences.
I'm always waiting for your dumb dumb anologies that brings down any philosopher :)
just a question: "sunny 16" helps you to "?
congratulations on your new baby and your channel.
greetings from lisbon, portugal
ps. sorry for my English :)
Trust me, your english is much better than my portuguese or spanish hahaha. And thank you! No, I don't do sunny 16, because there isn't any sun in London hahaha, so its usually by feel.
M6 is way too fun, but the M2 is real thing to deal with on street
Just got my first leica today. After hearing the shutter sound I get it now.
Ayyyyyyye!!! That shutter is no joke. Especially compared to an SLR. World of difference.
Pull out the batteries from your M6 and now you have an M2 and saved a couple of thousand. Your welcome!
Hi Jae, congrats on the M2, for 35mm film I have settled with an M2 and MP.
Wellll damnnnnn...It-Must-Be-Nice hahahaha...naw, you might have the best pairing ever right there. If I can get this M2 brassed then repainted black...I might be giving your pairing a run for its money :)
Nothing says "im in the 99.9%" like being in the Frankfurt Leica Store trying to talk a 1,000 Euro Leica M2 down to 950 Euro and a small Asian man comes in and buys three Leica M9s and three 50mm APO lenses. Hahaha...that put a smile on my face. Hopefully we can be that dude that buys the 3 Leicas some day. I'm happy with the grind.
Be safe!
Hahaha...yesss, I will get out and start shooting!
More birthdays to celebrate, what a great idea!
Hahaha...inndeed!
Take out the batteries when you store the M6!!! They can leak and damage the camera seriously.
Leica M2...mmm...I mean...Beautiful and super solid gemstone but has some details that I do not like.
The details that annoy me a lot are:
The film loading and the film unloading...I mean...both procedures are nightmares and complicated.
Cool, you’re in London?
Well done on the job. 👍🏻
Yup Yup, London, 3 yrs now. And appreciate it! Thanks for the watch and taking time out to comment.
@@jaeAre200 let me know if you know of any good street photography workshops in London. Take care.
Yes, no light meter is a joyful experience
Yeah, I'm excited to officially put my eye to the test.
The M2 elegant king of Leicas
Yesss, I can see why. It's definitely special.
Ahah, my wife always told me I have 3 kids... My 5 months son and my 2 cameras (sadly no money for a Leica... Hopefully one day 😉)! 🤣
Who knows, one day one of your kids will grow up and turn into a Leica haha :)
@@jaeAre200 My X-Pro 3 is not that far in fact... 😁🤣
Good stuff.
it must be nice x2 now wow, congrats!
Hahaha...Yooo, I might need another shirt! Maybe the hoodie haha.
Very nice indeed! happy shooting!
Yesssir!!! Thanks.
Mans reckons he can expose by eye, load up a roll of Velvia 50 and see how you go ;)
Hahaha...I said "more or less." But yes, the idea some day is maybe put some slide film in and really put my money where my mouth is. For right now, I'll stick to my HP5 and Portra hahaha.
I started with the M2 it taught me a lot to be honest
I could imagine. A camera for life that keeps on teaching.
I thought you were selling the M6, congrats!
Hahaha, naw, she's staying with me for awhile :)
Watch out for shutter burn
Nice Shirt 👍🏻
Ayyyyye!!! Not bad at all haha.

Much appreciated Jeremy, appreciate the watch and taking time out to comment.
Good shooting with the m2.

Much much appreciated. Thanks for the watch and taking time out to comment.
M2 kicks ass. I have a very clean copy of one. My only Leica body...
Yeah mannn! If you only could have ONE, aint nothing wrong with the M2, that's for damn sure. Especially a clean copy.
Congrats!
Much appreciated! Thanks for the watch and taking time out to comment.
A New Chapter in Jae's life. You might like that 50mm more than you think. Nice complement to the 28mm.
Yessssir!!! 28mm and 50mm not bad not bad.
omg this guy's ego!!!
