Guggi just sounds like a really smart and intelligent person! I saw "The Virgin Prunes" back in the days at a club in NYC called Danceteria. The thing about "The Virgin Prunes" was they had a great sense of humor, as shocking as they were if you missed the humor then you missed the entire point of "The Virgin Prunes"
Thank you Guggi. I'm a painter and everything that's been said in this interview is like a mirrow image of my view xx
I came here from the Big Think Gavin Friday interview. The Virgin Prunes were a band that interested me in the early 80s, but they never really were my cup of tea. I saw them a couple of times. I found them interesting in the same way I found Crass and early Scritti Politti interesting; as idealists and as artists; I knew that I subscribed to these notions, but didn't know what to do with them. To catch up with Guggi almost 40 years later has been a delight. What a humble and inspiring and positive man: an artist in the truest sense. Keep on keeping on!
(Great skin, too).
Great job on this interview! Guggi is clearly an open book, so that's a pleasure. I enjoy the typed questions so the only voice you hear is Guggi's. I hope someone with write a definitive biography of Lypton Village. The unique talents that came from that boyhood gang is incredible...
I was working in a restaurant in Dublin called the American Connection in 1980 and the The Virgin Prunes came in one night, they spotted I was gay and wound me up a bit by taking the piss out of my voice , in a light-hearted way ,this guy Guggi had a sort of Ziggy Stardust look at the time with shaved eyebrows and all that. Dublin was a dump at the time for me and them. Peace
Both Gavin and Guggi seem to be nice down to earth nice people who haven't forgotten their roots !
raising his boys in baptist church. love it!
I'm no Artist or art critic , but I really like his paintings !
His paintings are good. Can easily see reproductions in household stores. And I don't mean that in any derogatory way either. After also having watched the Gavin Friday interview too, I now felt I should have packed bags and upped and offed to North Dublin. I had so much in common with these guys! Spiritually, and creatively, and so non-conformist. Very inspirational
The man is an inspiration. just watched this interview a down to earth human that s inspiring . I saw the Virgin Prunes on the late late show my mother was shocked ,which was understandable . but i were blown away .
Thanks, uploader
I was lucky to be in his car once, on the passenger seat, in Dublin, after a few drinks in the Kitchen nightclub. I still have his business card. That was in July 1998 and no doubt this was one of the best nights of my life.
The ritual was me and the auld fella in church and then pub on Sunday morning ❤
Christian private school and church 3 times a week from 1970 through 1988. A bit much, yes, but I know God and his Word today because of it all.
I'd want to buy one of his paintings
Agree with him on Art.
What was with that last question? LOL
one honest gentleman
The comment about the art teacher "correcting" HIS interpretation of the still life is typical of how a lot of us grew up. It's a subject that is a great lesson to teach to kids........ individuality there's no such thing as right or wrong in art
Ok nice
Taking a pauze with painting and restarting its the same with creating music .
Good lord..... He sounds like his famous buddy...or his famous buddy sounds like him...spooky
Emmmm
Greed..wonder what he thinks of tax avoidance schemes!!?
