  • Match highlights from Port's amazing win against premiership contenders Carlton. Port had battled poor form and injury all season, but finished the year strongly, as new coach Mark Williams began to lift the Power up the ladder over the next few years. This match would long be remebered for the frantic few seconds as a depleted Port side snatched an impossible win.

Great video mate, even though I am not a port fan. I love watching these nostalgic matches.

Great work from Matty Primus to shark Stephen O'Reillys hit out in the dying seconds, though why O'Reilly wouldn't just thump it 30 yards towards the Carlton goal is beyond me. Not often you see sides winning from more than a goal down with less than a minute to go, all credit to Port for not conceding this one.

    Scott Camporeale: 34 possessions, 2 marks, 2 goals. Matthew Lappin's 100th

Port Adelaide 12.16.88 (Goals: Burgoyne 3, James 3, Tredrea 2, Francis, Francou, Lockwood, Stevens) defeated Carlton 12.11.83 (Goals: Beaumont 2, Brown 2, Camporeale 2, Houlihan 2, Ratten 2, Fletcher, Lappin). This win gave Port Adelaide confidence into the 2001 season. This win against Carlton & the win against the Adelaide Crows the following week helped Port Adelaide have the belief into 2001. And as a result the Power made the finals in 2001, and then in 2002-04 finished on top of the ladder, winning the premiership in 2004.

I like what you have said Connar. It will be an interesting year for about 6-8 teams who can make it to the top 8 which includes Freo. Some of those 6-8 teams will miss out, but in Freo's case they can still make the finals this year. Freo's first 10 losses last year ruined their season where it eventually nearly put them at the bottom of the ladder. I think Fremantle are much better than where they finished last year and I think things will be much better for the Dockers this year. I think they will finish 6th to 11th this year.

Ah there's Ratten too! :) Unbelievable that Carlton lost that game. That would not happen in today's era. It just goes to show how defensive all the teams have become nowadays. RIP exciting footy. May as well watch archives from the 90s every week instead of today's boring rubbish!!
