25 years ago I gave a lap quilt to a friends baby. I had made it lap size. I gave instructions for diaper changing space, playtime mat, picnic blanket...you get the idea..I was lucky enough to be invited to that young adult's apartment, and there on the back of the couch was the quilt....very worn, tattered and loved. This young man had no idea I was the one that made that quilt!
I made a baby's quilt 11 years ago for a kind girl , Maélie, and each time she sees me, she talks about her quilt! Her sister told me: how come I didn't receive one ? So, soon, she doesn't know but 8 years after, I will make a quilt for her! Thanks for your ideas, I learned a lot with you and your invites. Thanks.
You are so right! Every time I give a quilt at a baby shower it's always a huge hit!! The Mom is always so thankful that I took the time to make a handmade quilt.
I've been watching Fons and Porter my entire life my mother was a quilter I am a quilter and my grandchildren are learning to be Quilters so the madness continues thank you
My grandmother used to make baby quilts for the new babies in the family. She has passed on now, but I have taken over for her. I now make all the new baby quilts. I love wonky 9 patch quilts, hexagons, and charm square quilts for quick and fun baby quilts. I find that the 30's fabrics work really well as they have small prints and give a throwback feel that are really popular now. :)
This was the cutest video! I make baby blankets for a non-profit and I learned some good pointers! You two are delightful. What a blessed relationship you have.
Lol!!! When you said, "if you don't want attention" it made me think of my daughter who made her (then boyfriend, now husband) a quilt for Christmas. His mom, grandma & entire family was in love with her instantly! They all quit too.
I love baby quilts, but I junk mine up with many layers of lace edging. If you don't know the sex of the baby, use a flat lace with center openings that you can change to pink or blue when baby gets there. Otherwise, I love using the "It's a Girl" or "It's a Boy" Ribbons around the edge. I also make them in flannel and go for a 36 by 36" size. One time I used the Sashay lace and made a ruffle and it looked very, very cool. But for baby quilts, the more dramatic the better with baby prints. Joann's has great ones and I load up during sales. Also on the 2" to 3" edge ribbons.
Can you please give me pattern for the white christening quilt? LOVE it. Expecting a grandchild. Hope you will please reply even if this video is years old. 🙏🏻
Anne Ross Whatever you want. I thought Mary's quilt was way too small. I'd never give that to someone as a baby gift. Even at double the size it would be small. The last baby quilt I made was almost a twin bed size. I want my quilts to grow with the kids. Mary should be embarrassed to give that quilt considering she makes quilts every day for a living.
That small quilt would be perfect for a preemie. Our granddaughter is in the NICU and that quilt would be a perfect size for her. Later, when she is bigger, it can become the “lovey” she holds while sleeping. The first quilt I made was small like that, and when the parents sent a photo, the baby barely fit in it. But, 3 years later, and the child is still using it for comfort and when he goes to sleep. The mother said they take the quilt everywhere they go!
i made a gorgeous baby quilt, mailed it from New Zealand to America and it got sent back as the colours were not suitable for the nursery, arghh! Never made another for them, ungrateful!!

How to wash a quilt?
I enjoy Fons tutorials & advice, but 45 seconds of intro ads deter me from watching. (Constructive criticism)

so sorry to hear that send it to me i will gladly accept and appreciate it. labour of love. Truly ungrateful
How rude! I'm glad you didn't make another quilt. Those people would never get another gift from me, ever.
Tineke Williams i cant believe the audacity of that person. I am so sorry that that happened to you.
Tineke Williams oh my goodness. I cannot imagine someone being so disrespectful
What happened to Fons and Porter?
fons and porter
I so much wish all these people who make RUclips videos would just get to it without so much chatting. Please, just tell us what we came here for
Irritating. Talked on and on and didn't hold up the first quilt so you never saw it properly.
