LYRICS "The Day Before You Came" - ABBA (Words and Music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus) I must have left my house at eight, because I always do My train, I'm certain, left the station just when it was due I must have read the morning paper going into town And having gotten through the editorial, no doubt I must have frowned I must have made my desk around a quarter after nine With letters to be read, and heaps of papers waiting to be signed I must have gone to lunch at half past twelve or so The usual place, the usual bunch And still, on top of this, I'm pretty sure it must have rained The day before you came I must have lit my seventh cigarette at half past two And at the time I never even noticed I was blue I must have kept on dragging through the business of the day Without really knowing anything, I hid a part of me away At five, I must have left, there's no exception to the rule A matter of routine, I've done it ever since I finished school The train back home again, undoubtedly I must have read the evening paper then Oh, yes, I'm sure my life was well within its usual frame The day before you came [Break] I must have opened my front door at eight o'clock or so And stopped along the way to buy some Chinese food to go I'm sure I had my dinner watching something on TV There's not, I think, a single episode of Dallas that I didn't see I must have gone to bed around a quarter after ten I need a lot of sleep, and so I like to be in bed by then I must have read a while the latest one by Marilyn French or something in that style It's funny, but I had no sense of living without aim The day before you came And turning out the light, I must have yawned and cuddled up for yet another night And rattling on the roof I must have heard the sound of rain The day before you came

The source video I used to create this one is here: ruclips.net/video/1HnOFwqpLRQ/видео.html That was the best-quality upload of this music video I could find online and it is the official upload on the official ABBA RUclips channel. I could not find one with a sharper picture quality. I have improved on that official upload in the following ways: Firstly, I have faded out the footage earlier at the end, and the reason for this is that the official upload version seems to have been tampered with, and presents a freeze frame at the 5:20 time-point which lasts until the end of the video over 20 seconds later, with this freeze frame picture fading to black as the music fades out. All the uploads of this music video that I found online had this same ending, but I consider it highly unlikely that the original version of this music video had this ending. I don't know what kind of ending it may have had though. What I have done is faded out the footage to black earlier, so that it ends before the freeze frame passage starts and we never see a freeze frame, and to accompany the end of the track I have put up on screen a picture of the single (as released in Germany) and a picture of the band from that time. I have also added optional subtitles for the lyrics. I have also improved the audio quality. I have replaced the audio track with one directly imported from a CD in the AIFF audio format. I have also raised the volume level so that it matches that of the majority of music videos. This song was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. This track was produced by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and was released in 1982. According to Wikipedia, this single went to No. 1 in Finland, and reached No. 3 in their native Sweden and in Belgium and the Netherlands, No. 4 in Switzerland, No. 5 in West Germany, No. 6 in Argentina, No. 12 in Ireland, No. 16 in Austria, No. 29 in Spain, No. 32 in the UK, and No. 48 in Australia, and did not chart in the USA or New Zealand. LYRICS
"The Day Before You Came"
- ABBA
(Words and Music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus)
I must have left my house at eight, because I always do
My train, I'm certain, left the station just when it was due
I must have read the morning paper going into town
And having gotten through the editorial, no doubt I must have frowned
I must have made my desk around a quarter after nine
With letters to be read, and heaps of papers waiting to be signed
I must have gone to lunch at half past twelve or so
The usual place, the usual bunch
And still, on top of this, I'm pretty sure it must have rained
The day before you came
I must have lit my seventh cigarette at half past two
And at the time I never even noticed I was blue
I must have kept on dragging through the business of the day
Without really knowing anything, I hid a part of me away
At five, I must have left, there's no exception to the rule
A matter of routine, I've done it ever since I finished school
The train back home again, undoubtedly I must have read the evening paper then
Oh, yes, I'm sure my life was well within its usual frame
The day before you came
[Break]
I must have opened my front door at eight o'clock or so
And stopped along the way to buy some Chinese food to go
I'm sure I had my dinner watching something on TV
There's not, I think, a single episode of Dallas that I didn't see
I must have gone to bed around a quarter after ten
I need a lot of sleep, and so I like to be in bed by then
I must have read a while the latest one by Marilyn French or something in that style
It's funny, but I had no sense of living without aim
The day before you came
And turning out the light, I must have yawned and cuddled up for yet another night
And rattling on the roof I must have heard the sound of rain
The day before you came
