What can I say? Amazing as always!
Since the short-lived Democratic Republic of Georgia (1918-1921) was mentioned, here's a fun fact: the DRG managed to ally with Poland before getting conquered by the Bolsheviks and nearly a hundred Georgian officers served in the Polish army and navy on special contracts since 1922. Many of them fought in the WW2 in the Polish ranks.

You didn't mention the fact that independent Georgia had closer ties to German Empire before it was defeated in the Great War and not only POWs but emigrants (after soviet invasion) took significant role in forming Georgian Legion. Even if you look at the Georgian flag, it resembles German imperial flag. Georgian officer, Shalva Maglakelidze was one of the most significant figure in these eastern legions and He had contacts with German army since 1918 ( some German troops stationed in Georgia before capitulation in 1918 ). Throughout history, Georgians generally tended to be pro-German rather than pro-British or pro-French in geopolitics. (fun fact, in 2008 Germans unofficially vetoed Georgia getting MAP for NATO and we got actual war with Russia months later) In general, even on the basis of fighting side by side someone, Georgians fought like side by side Wehrmacht (armed forces of your ally ) rather than Nazi Germany , I mean it wasn't about ideology.

Great presentation, however I think there is somewhat of a misconception about the Ostlegionen. The way I understand it, the Georgian and Armenian volunteers performed poorly in the Caucasus because most of them were former Soviet POWs and not willing to fight their own people. I think that is reinforced by the fact that many of them ended up deserting as soon as they were deployed near their countries. If I'm not wrong, Hitler even complained how Georgians specificaly weren't trustworthy ( maybe it had also smth to do with the fact Stalin and many of his spies were Georgian idk ) and that he could only rely on muslims as they apparently didn't bear such concerns.
However the many Georgians who fled Soviet political prosecution as a result of the August Uprising prior to the outbreak of WW2, seemed wholly different people. The immigrants bore a genuine grudge against the Soviet Union and they were the ones who wanted to free their country from oppression and pushed those ideas. The ones deployed in the Abwehr units contributed to many Soviet POWs switching sides from behind enemy lines. I'm also sure the Germans used their extensive knowledge about the region and proficient Russian, for many other subversive actions. Just my 0,02 Cents.

Were people upset with it, was there a controversial topic involved or did it just turn out not as good as you wanted it to be? It just bugs me since I know a couple of history channels, which had to private their videos just because some people can't take the truth and/or RUclips thought it violates its rules.

hey, again a very interesting video. do you happen to know if the Georgian Soldiers, when captured by the Soviets, got even worse treatment then the other "Caucasian" troops, considering, Stalin was born in and to Georgian Parents? also , can you consider to do a video on the Georgians that were on Texel at the end of the war? thank you very much!

There were french, americans, swedish, dutch, spanish, russians, ukranians, lithuanians, latvians, estonians, swedish, norwegian, wallonians, czechs, the named caucasians and many other groups in smaller number fighting for the axis (from either foreign or occupied countries). There were also a number of antifa germans fighting in Spain and later the USSR against national socialism. Back then people simply viewed it all diffrently, as they were living in that time and effected by all sides propaganda and not by once.

At the end you should have went a little more into what Stalin did to all captured POW's - Even Eisenhower should have been charged with war crimes . . .

A nuance has to be offered at the information you offer about Rheinwiesenlager, since most of the Germans that died in the camp were already exhausted, malnurished or wounded men. Putting Eisenhower on a par with Stalin isn't correct.

@@HistoryHustle Murder is murder, to downplay starvation at the American camps while criticizing Germans for every little detail is really incredible - here is a example - on a documentary on liberated camps, a Jewish female prisoner said the final indignity was getting raped by a Russian soldier after being liberated . . .
Nuremberg was a show trial compared to what the Allies did . . .
And I've talked to women that lived in Hungary in the 1960's - another horror show ignored by the west - why ?
It was occupied by the American ally Russia . . .

You really want me to elaborate seriously on your comment, because it shows a lack of historical understanding.
Lemme try. About Hitler and Stalin. You can compare the totalitarian dictators. The question is whether asking yourself which one was more evil than the other is the right one. One component often overlooked is that Stalin could live up to his evilness the fullest. Yet, Hitler got defeated. If the Germans had won WWII many, many, MANY more people would have been killed. Take that into account.
About Hungary in the 1960s. By that time the USSR wasn't an ally of the US any longer. It was called the Cold War.

    • @jaylopes8489
      @jaylopes8489 4 года назад

@@HistoryHustle You're looking at "historical understanding" by reading books - my historical understanding has been by 40 years of talking to people that lived through that nightmare - to get someone explaining their experience on the subject of rape / war (40+ years later) as they still look horrified . . . - books can't do that . . .
Now to say it was a "cold war" . . .
When Stalin starved 7 million Ukrainians it was before - H wasn't even Chancellor 1930/32 there was no war - yet again no one in the west criticized Stalin - after H became Chancellor in 1933 and he dared criticize the Communist - all of the sudden H makes the cover of Time magazine - for the worst dictator.
Bankers even declared a "economic war on Germany" (1933)
H didn't want that horror of the East to come into Europe - Oswald Mosley in a 1960's interview even said - "H just wanted to go East" - many average people outside of Germany supported H - Spain, Portugal . . . 1936 . . .
So before the actual war or after the war Stalin never got criticized by anyone !
Except one Austrian painter had the courage to say what many thought - (the Communist are a threat)
Over the years I've asked American soldiers that served in WW2 from NY to Seattle - I asked - "why was Roosevelt so friendly towards Communist ( Russian & Chinese ) " their reply surprised me, and I've heard more than most "historians" on war - they said "Roosevelt was himself a Communist" - now keep in mind these were different men from different states all said the same !
Remember those 20,000 Polish officers killed by Russians in Poland (1939) when Churchill was notified of this in 1940 - his reply was - "that was a year ago" . . .
Thats my point - BEFORE the war - DURING the war - AFTER the war - it doesn't matter ! Incredibly western school history books ignored anything negative about Communist . . . The #1 & #2 mass history murderers ignored - we just hear about #3
History on WW1 & WW2 has been manipulated to whitewash 50% of it - the giggle now is the Russians & Chinese are a threat to the west - lol !!!
      Does that sound familiar ????
