Very appreciate the "write up". I was about the do the same thing and found Mid City Engineering stuffs but still have tons of uncertainty in my mind. Your video answered all of them! Thanks!
I bought the wiring harness and Alpine ilx W650 from Crutchfield, and found out the harness was compatible only with 2014 sprinters and I have a 2020. Thanks a ton for making this detailed video, I ordered the harness from Mid City Eng and will be returning the harness from Crutchfield. Going to attempt this install this weekend. Fingers crossed.
Thank you for the tutorial. It will help me a lot once I replace the factory radio as well as run the backup camera cable to the stereo. Much appreciated. In preparation for changing out the radio I ran a + and - wire from my 12volt fuse box (house battery) in the rear of my van to the new stereo in the dash, Sprinter 2019. I want to listen to tunes when the van is parked and not running. Thus not drawing power from the starter battery.
This video is awesome! Very thorough and detailed. I'm actually doing a similar retrofit right now with an Alpine 650 iLX head unit in a 2021 Sprinter 2500. I bought and used the mid city wiring adapters, and have referenced this video many times. Thank you so much!!
Thanks for checking it out. I’m glad it’s helping. Make sure to use the correct power sources. I noted it in the description. The last one I installed from mid city actually had a different spot completely.
Beautiful work! Your explanations were super straightforward, and it really helps when you show us things like clip locations for dash parts. THANKYOU!
Great video man. I have sony ax3000 and your video made the install so easy. I had power issues with the stereo resetting to factory every morning and today I rewired it to the source you mentioned. Fingers crossed.
Once I switched no issues. Make sure you test each of the three post with a multimeter to make sure you have the constant power in the correct position.
Came back this morning still radio reset to factory. Connected to constant and second to acc which is middle terminal for battery wire and and the first terminal from back of the seat for acc wire and same issue. Any chance you could send me a picture of how yours is connected?
Kaspi Chmiel yes. I used the ground point under the seat. In the older ones it was easy to spot. The new one I had to lift the black plastic “tray” with all the wires. You’ll see a stud with a few brown cables attached to it. I used that
Huge help as I’m getting ready to do a Pioneer in the exact same van. How did you end up clearing what looked like an error code right toward the end of the video?
Great video. Two questions. I’m doing the same but with a Pioneer. Which install bracket did you use? And what did it take to clear what you pointed out near the end as an error code on the dash? Thanks!
Hello, I'm Susanne from Germany. I also have a Sprinter from 2019 and want to swap the radio too. Unfortunately, I can't get the new bracket for the double radio. According to Mercedes Benz, there is no such thing. Where did you get your frame from? Many greetings Susanne
filbert51 on this year van it uses a can bus system. Everything is ran from the computer. I’ve heard of people taping the original wiring harness power.
I saw this information that you shared with me and my question is did this solve the problem with the sos light staying on ? Did you join each of the 3 colored wires together black to black, white to white and clear to clear is this correct. ? Thank you for all your help.
I live in Texas Dallas area, interested in replacing the radio over storage component just like in the video. Do you have an installer to recommend or is it a DIY only ?
Nice work! Thinking of doing the same thing. Question for ya, while on reverse, does the guidelines on the video sync to the direction your steering? For instance, if you turn your steering wheel, does the yellow guidelines move with the steering? Thanks!
If I recall ours didn’t have that option so I couldn’t tell you! But if you emailed or called mid city engineering they might know. They were very helpful
If I recall the harness you clip into where the back up camera feed is fed into the rear view mirror that is part of that harness from mid city. So when you ran that blue wire to the back of the new headunit that is the “feed” from it. Hope that makes sense.
I'm thinking of hiding the stock unit somewhere out of site and print a custom bracket for it so I don't loose any functions and in its place install my new heading.
Where was this video 7 months ago when I needed it. Never showed up in all the searches i did. I did manage to install a kenwood 907 dmx and some mids and tweets with 2 subs and i used the stock wiring. And as soon as I finished installing the stereo ,a big ac unit in the back insulation , heater with 3 auxillary batteries retrofit morimoto h1 projectors. I totaled the van. Now i have a 2020 with a few more options but I have the mbx in this one and k have no idea how to go about changing the heading because everything runs through this one. The 2019 was cake compared to the 2020. Even taking the dash apart is harder and the dash was hard on the 2019. So I'm looking for solutions because k brought a sweet big magnet skar 10 inch pushing 600watts rms.
I changed that. Sprinter has a spot under the drivers seat that I now use to tap into power. sprintervanusa.com/2016/08/07/tapping-in-to-the-sprinter-vans-battery/ Here’s a good write up
I want to do this add on the same van 2019 - but also need to put in parking sensors and wanted those to be incorporated in the in dash system - do you know whether they can be added into the sony you bought or should I find another in dash system - it doesn't say on the specs with SONY?
I I was curious about the same thing. Unfortunately I don’t know the answer. I do know a few people who have left the original 7in or 10in head unit and upgraded the speakers and have been Very happy with it.
Hi. The 7 inch is different. I found out when I purchased a different springer. My new one has the 7 inch. It took me forever to figure it out. But the vents to the left and right of the radio, you have to remove those. They use a tool like this . www.amazon.com/dp/B07R6F1JGG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share once those are remove it will expose two torxs screws, one in each. This have to be removed! Then the face will be able to be removed! Hope that helps!
Rum coke I did, until I changed the power location to the power distribution spot under the drivers seat. I believe it’s called EK1. If your behind the seat look forward it’s the back right side of the seat base. There is three connection points under a flip up cover. One is accessory power, key on power and constant. Check yours with a multimeter but mine was center constant and the back on one was key on power
