Hi Art. I find your videos very informative and have followed them to calibrate my SW2700PT. Other photographers on You Tube swear by slightly different settings in the set up, but I have found yours the best to suit me. I have a question on connections. When I calibrate I have the HDMI port connected to my Dell XPS 8940 desktop, I have the control puck permanently plugged in its port, and then I plug in the USB cable from the back of panel to a USB port on my computer, and finally I plug in the X-Rite i1 Display Pro to the top USB port on the left hand side of the panel. On completion of calibration I remove the X-Rite and unplug it from the side of the panel, and I also unplug the USB cable from the back panel to my computer. Is it correct to unplug this USB cable and run without it as I consider it is only to send the ICC to the computer during calibration.
the spec and size... yes. But the SW2700PT is getting older now, the price is good but I would check and make sure that everything works and that you can still bring up the brightness. If everything works then you are good but do realized that because of the age you might not get as many years out of it. Otherwise, this is a good display.
great video that let me understand more about the panel. I purchased one last Christmas and found the panel is 8 bits from windows display properties page. but my tablet display card has 32 bit true color profile for benq2700. I was wondering why it is 8 bits not 10 bits.
@Warren Wang, on a Windows system to get 10 bit output you would have to use the really high-end graphic card such as the AMD Vega series or the Nvidia Quadra series. These cards will output 10 bit. Other ordinary low-mid range and gaming card does not have that capability on a PC.
@@ArtIsRight Nvidia GTX cards support 10 bits output, providing your card is running Studio Driver. I'm confused. If I buy the SW2700PT, would I be getting a unit from 2015? Or has the PT been upgraded? Or is the SW2700C (usb) model the upgraded version of the PT?
@Joe Smith, no the unit with that manufacture date is gone, you'll be getting the unit with a current manufacture date with updated firmware. They are all USB, all of the unit panel, electronic, designed and connections are the same. The only differences I that the current selling unit has an update current firmware.
Hi there! great video!!!! I just purchased a used sw2700pt and the rec.709 and P3 color spaces are not available... According to your video these devices received a firmware update. Is there a way to manually upgrade the firmware? I do a lot of video work and really need these features... Thanks for your help!!!
@@ArtIsRight I already own two of the SW700PT. They are from 2019. These have the rec.709 and P3 options. But recently, I purchased a used model of the same monitor from 2015. This specific one does not have the rec.709 and the P3. Probably because it is old it does not have these options which appear in the same models of a later manufacturing date. The question is if you know of any firmware update that will give me the these options on the monitor from 2015? Thanks for all your help!
Older firmware, these display can't be firmware updated. Also even if it was possible, you won't get new color mode / space / gamut because those needs to be factory calibrated.
Hi Art. Posting on behalf of a friend, who uses the SW2700PT " when I connect my MacBook Pro m1 to my Benq using HDMI, photoshop / bridge don’t function well.. I can’t use the trackpad to scroll up / down or using to drag controls" I do realise that this is a very old monitor for the new usb-c laptops but, is there a way around this where, my friend could use any sort of convertors on the cables to perhaps resolve the situation ?
First use USB C to Display Port. Secondly, the connection for the display should not have any baring on the way PS / BR function on the system. What is happening sounds more like an OS issue.
@@ArtIsRight Thank you. Seems like you could be right He has been using a USB-c to HDMI already. Purchased a third party off Amazon since Benq did not provide one. He seems to have this trackpad lag issue when using Photoshop only, while the mouse seems to be responding alright to similar functions. No issues what so ever on his old 2015 MBP. Just the M1 MBP
Should I buy this or the 270c? I ordered the prior but still hasn't shipped due to back order. I'm highly considering canceling and ordering the 270c with Hdr.
If you have not watched this yet, it should help ruclips.net/video/vpsKML8xX_c/видео.html it depends if the SW270C upgrade is worth it for you and the computer that you are using it with.
Hi ArtIsRight, I wonder If there are any known issues with connecting a MBPro mid 2015 (mine is equipped with AMD Radeon R9 M370x), when using one of the two Thunderbolt 2-ports? Might I rather go for using the hdmi-port? Can I actually use either SW2700PT or the upgraded SW270C? - connected directly to my MBPpro? Will it make sense buying the upgraded model right now, even though my MBPro doesn't have a USB-C? (my next Mac/pc Will definitely have this!) I'll appreciate your response on your excellent channel. Have a nice day! /John
If you have the TB2 ports use the mini display port to display port. It is a better connector to use. On the 15" MBP there are no issues with using HDMI, but you do have to calibrate it, otherwise the color will be off if you use HDMI natively. You can use either one to connect to the MBP that you have. If any point the the future you are going to upgrade to a newer apple laptop then I would consider the SW270C Instead, save you the cables and adapter headache.
@@ArtIsRight Thanks for your rapid response!.... However, just for clarifying; what are the benefits by using one of my two Thunderbolt-2 ports instead of the hdmi-port? You mentioned some color-off-calibrating by using the hdmi. Will this not occur in term of using the TB-2? Thanks in advance.../John
This video will explain why HDMI can cause issues ruclips.net/video/8oPVHRK2TqA/видео.html if you have TB2 which is mini display to display port just use that.
Their monitors look amazing. I just wish it came with freesync. Yes, I know it's not for gaming. I enjoy a lot of photography as a hobby, but I have to share my monitor with others. I don't need high refresh rates, but freesync would be nice.
@ToxicTiki, these are hardware calibration capable displays, they are probably the opposite end of gaming and esports displays. For what you need, you might want to consider BenQ EX line display, which has good color and higher refresh rate. It is their flagship entertainment line.
Thank you for your content! I've just purchased this monitor and I'm very excited about it. However, I'm having a connectivity problem. I try to connect the monitor to my laptop using the USB cable, but the monitor keeps saying that there is no cable connected. I can't use it at the moment because I don't have ports for the other cables provided. Do you know what might be the problem here?
ArtIsRight I’m using a Lenovo Yoga 720 13.3” with an 8th generation intel processor, 16GB RAM and an intel 620 graphics card. It should be fine in terms of the specs I think. I’ll try to get a hold on an adapter to try a different cable and see if it works. Do you know of cases where a certain type of port works better than others?
Which USB cable are you using exactly? If you are using USB C with Thunderbolt (TB) you would need an adapter to link the SW2700PT to it. Either Display Port or HDMI, Display Port Preferred. If you are just using the USB 3.0 Type A to Type B then that will not work since that cable will only carry the IO signal and not the video signal. You might want to consider a cable like this to use in conjunction with the USB A to B cable included with the display www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-uni-Thunderbolt-Compatible-More-Gray/dp/B075V27G2R/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=usb+c+to+displayport&qid=1592603976&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzVjNVNzQ2SlhGN0ZaJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjUwNjY5M1JaSjRDQ1dZNklMUSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTY5MTM1MjY1N1VSNjZRVE1PSCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
ArtIsRight Oh! So that was the problem. I was only using the USB 3.0 cable, because I’m used to monitors that require only one cable (in addition to the power cable). Was not paying attention here. I’ll get the cable you just recommended. Thank you very much!
That is USB type C only and your computer needs to support DisplayPort over USB Type C or it has to be a Thunderbolt 3 port. And the only models that really support 1 cable with power delivery at this point is the SW270C and SW321C. The SW271 will support 1 cable but you need to a power adapter to use with it.
Hi art, which you recommend for web design and print illustrations work between PD2700U and SW2700PT. I work ob Adobe Photoshop, indesign, illustrator, XD
Hi- why would the color balance change on the screen when all I have done is click on the file or move the file slightly? Is this a fault of the monitor? SW2700 BENQ or is something else going on? Also, when I open a file in as a smart object and then open in photoshop, the color balance or saturation is different in camera raw then it is as a photoshop file. Monitor is calibrated. Thanks so much!
Nice video! How should I calibrate if I’m connecting with a Blackmagic mini monitor through HDMI. I know my color space is rec 709 but I’m not sure if making the calibration trough the video card and Mac OS and then go through the HDMI is accurate.
based on my understanding, you can just calibrate the hook up that you have. Since the signal is outputting in HDMI it should calibrated the signal based on that output. If you are suing SW2700PT then I would choose REC 709 as the RGB Primary on calibration and make sure that the USB is link between the display and computer. Let me know how this goes.
ArtIsRight thanks for the reply. But I’m going through thunderbolt, Mini Monitor video card, and then HDMI. The signal comes from DaVinci resolve in my case, so here is my doubt about if I should calibrate on Mac OS X with color palette and then when I switch back to the mini monitor it’s accurate, I think it doesn’t. I can’t use color palette with the Mini Monitor.
You have to calibrate the mini monitor independently via software calibration. It will be as accurate as it can be based on the RGB primary of the mini monitor. There's really no matching but they should come close.
You can use it without a calibrator but I highly recommend getting one. I recommend the i1Display Pro, you can get it here. x-rite-photo.2rcf97.net/nYoe6 If you are in the US connect with me on my Facebook page or instagram and I'll give you a 10% off code.
ArtIsRight I don’t have the budget for it right now but without calibration is still ok right?im gonna buy 1 soon using your link thank you.. I’m from Canada by the way
Got cha, the link and my code might work in Canada, I am not sure. But for the time being you can run it with the factory calibration, it just won't be as accurate like a customer calibration.
Review was really helpful. Thanks a lot. I have been researching for monitors for my new build (Ryzen 7 3700X, Nvidia 2070) for Video and Photo editing (DaVinci Resolve, Shotcut, Lightworks, GIMP, Darktable). Works mainly on Linux. I have shortlisted - 1) BenQ SW2700PT 2)LG 27UK650 3)Acer PE270K 4) BenQ PD2700Q. Please help me choose the best for my need. Can also suggest any other better ones in these price range. Thank you.
If you want the best color you should look at a Hardware Calibrated display, to which in your list the only one that is Hardware calibration capable is the SW2700PT. Eizo makes one too in this price range it is not their top of the line and it does cost a few hundred more. Viewsonic also makes a few hardware calibrated one but from what I gather BenQ and Eizo is at the top of the food chain for hardware calibrated displays right now.
more of a personal preference and what you intend to do on the screen. 2K is less resolution but readable at native resolution and much less taxing on the video card. 4K most of the time people have it and would run it at some scaling resolution which in a sense defeat the purpose of having a 4K in some senses. For photo editing 2K is suffice, if you want to do any 4K video then 4K might be the one to consider.

I am using dvi port to connect, what am l doing wrong?
Do you have another display the you can test your computer with? It might be the video card that is starting to go? This can be a driver issue as well. To know definitively where the issue lies, you would have to test it this way, if you are able to. Otherwise, you can always contact your local BenQ support for warranty support and repair. Alternatively, you can connect your BenQ to another computer and see if you're getting the same issue.
@@ArtIsRight thank you so much for your reply and very promptly too. I do have another display. The Display is only 2yrs only if that and isnt used everyday all day. I would be very surprised if it was. I will try the second monitor and 2nd PC. Thank you again for your help and reply!
I have had to replace my SW2700PT twice already because they both would have the same issue "the screen would go black randomly and increasing frequency" . Anyone else had this issue?
Please see my answer in the other post. If you replaced it twice and it is still happening, there's less likely hood it is the display, it could be the cable the computer, the ports on your computer, etc. Lots of things can go wrong with aging electronic and circuit board.
HELP! I have been trying to run PME to calibrate my SW2700PT for days. I sent an email to BenQ support but have not heard back yet. I sent another email today with more information: Just some added information. SW2700PT (manufacture date January 2017), Windows 10 64bit, Nividia GeForce GT430, DVI and USB B (the square type) connected. I1Display Pro. As I stated, after I set everything up in PME and click to start the measurement, it does NOT do any measuring, it goes immediately to (in yellow letters) “writing LUT”, then moves to Measuring (in white letters) where it stops and the entire screen goes white and I have to turn off the computer and not from any menu because there is none.
What calibrator are you using? Is this a clean install Windows 10 or an update from a previous version of Win 7 or Win 10? Also what settings are you using for PME?
@@ArtIsRight As I stated, I'm using the i1 display pro. OS is win10 64 bit. It was the upgrade (from 7) from Microsoft. I had it upgraded by my son in law who is an IT program architect working with AI and has been head of the IT department with his previous firm. He's installed and updated many win systems as well as mac's. He knows what he's doing!
@@ArtIsRight Settings for PME is as you explain in your videos. I've tried many different combinations including Adobe RGB, matrix, 16 bit lut, V2, V4, large patches, 2.2 gamma, photo native,
Are you using HDMI? If you are can you try display port? I would start here, from there it could be the update, in this situation it does not matter if the person knows what he is doing or not, usually when you upgrade from a previous version of the OS there are parameters and files that should get deleted but never are and sometime this can cause software conflict especially with a hardware calibrated display. Again, I am not say that it is your OS yet, get back to me about the cable first and we'll go from there.
@@ArtIsRight It's DVI, not HDMI. I'm wondering if the fact that I have both x-rite software (profiler for both i1display pro & studio) as well as Color data spyder that I previously used for printer/paper profiles
Has anyone used this monitor connected to a Mac via DisplayPort? Does it send sound to the headphone jack? It does work with HDMI, but I would like to see it work via DisplayPort as well...
Only HDMI will have that capability. You can use the USB up link with display port and and choose the USB audio out in system preferences and that might work.
ArtIsRight Thanks for the answer. But still: displayport supports audio as well, so I don’t understand why this does not work. I do not understand your usb solution. Can you explain?
ArtIsRight thanks for the effort. BenQ has confirmed the display does not support audio over DisplayPort. Even though their first response was it would. Too bad, because as far as I can tell, DisplayPort standard allows audio transfer. In my opinion this deviation of a standard should be documented in the specs. Perhaps your suggestion to transfer audio via usb might be a solution for me, but currently I cannot get this to work.
That is what I was referring too about the USB. And perhaps they should document it but very few probably use that feature to start with, it does not give them the excuse, but either way.

@Joe Smith, no the unit with that manufacture date is gone, you'll be getting the unit with a current manufacture date with updated firmware. They are all USB, all of the unit panel, electronic, designed and connections are the same. The only differences I that the current selling unit has an update current firmware.
@@ArtIsRight Great, thank you!
Anytime!
Hi there! great video!!!! I just purchased a used sw2700pt and the rec.709 and P3 color spaces are not available... According to your video these devices received a firmware update. Is there a way to manually upgrade the firmware? I do a lot of video work and really need these features... Thanks for your help!!!
Not for the SW2700PT, on the newer model there's REC 709 and P3 Also you should be able to calibrate it in that color space as well.
@@ArtIsRight Does the REV: 00-135-BA have the rec.709 and P3 options?
Hi Art. Posting on behalf of a friend, who uses the SW2700PT
" when I connect my MacBook Pro m1 to my Benq using HDMI, photoshop / bridge don’t function well.. I can’t use the trackpad to scroll up / down or using to drag controls"
I do realise that this is a very old monitor for the new usb-c laptops but, is there a way around this where, my friend could use any sort of convertors on the cables to perhaps resolve the situation ?
First use USB C to Display Port. Secondly, the connection for the display should not have any baring on the way PS / BR function on the system. What is happening sounds more like an OS issue.
@@ArtIsRight Thank you. Seems like you could be right
He has been using a USB-c to HDMI already. Purchased a third party off Amazon since Benq did not provide one.
He seems to have this trackpad lag issue when using Photoshop only, while the mouse seems to be responding alright to similar functions.
No issues what so ever on his old 2015 MBP. Just the M1 MBP
Something is going on with the software or hardware that link the trackpad and computer.
(my next Mac/pc Will definitely have this!)
I'll appreciate your response on your excellent channel.
@@ArtIsRight Thanks a lot, Art! After having watched your recomended video it makes sense - even to me😊. I'm glad I found your channel!

As a 2k monitor do you see any issues in using it to generate timelapse videos that are 4k?
I don't see any issue with that at all. Everything will just scale down to fit 2K
What computer do you have? Spec, models, etc.
Comparing these 2, SW is going to provide you with a better color gamut. PD2700U is a 4K where as the SW2700PT is 2K
Download PME 1.3.14, calibrate it and see if this issue still occur? Also what is the make and model, size, year of your computer?
why on the spec page it says it uses RGB-LED backlit?
That is the backlight specific subtype. It is still what is generally refereed to as IPS LED Backlight
but is it better then W-led or?@@ArtIsRight
Not necessary better just a different type of LED used for the white / backlight illumination
Hello I just ordered mine and I didn’t buy the calibrator do I need to buy it or it’s ok?
@@ArtIsRight Thank you so much. Very grateful for the prompt and useful reply.
you're welcome
@@ArtIsRight One more question. 2k or 4k for 27'' monitor? What is preferable?
more of a personal preference and what you intend to do on the screen.
Is there audio output?
None for the SW line.
hello!
i Calibrate my monitor for video editing in davinci resolve when using HLG on sony a7iii

How did you calibrate for HLG, most display and calibrator don't support that format.
I purchased this monitor a few years ago. I am having issues with this monitor as it loses connection very frequently. I then have to turn off my pc and reboot, sometimes it works and other times it still will not connect to my pc(Acer7th gen i7 processor. Nvidia geforce GTX1050) .
You're welcome!
I had the same problem. After Windows update everythink is Ok.
HELP! I have been trying to run PME to calibrate my SW2700PT for days. I sent an email to BenQ support but have not heard back yet. I sent another email today with more information:
Just some added information.
When I have a moment, I'll run some test on this and get back to you. With out testing, it would be hard for me to speculate.
