- This week on Inside The Ambulance, Gaz and Liam show a little tough love with an overdose case, and Ash and Gary show some nice love when a child is acting strangely after bumping her head. Hannah and Claire start their shift by rushing to the aid of a man with heart failure.
For the very first time, an ambulance has been rigged with cameras that provide a unique perspective on what it's like to respond to emergency calls. Paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service in England take us right into the heart of the action. We see heroism at work in the actions of these first responders. We also enter the lives of people in crisis and learn their unique stories.

They looked at acted just fine to me. Nothing but an attention getter for each other. If he would have drank any of that cleaner, he would have, at least, been throwing up.
@@ladyadarathecrone7494 the problem is that threatening suicide is manipulation. It can create a very toxic relationship dynamic. It creates codependency and self blaming. She’s also 18 and he looks visibly quite a bit older than her so that’s also kinda a red flag.

It's not a normal couple and "alright". This is major toxic relationship that can end bad for both of them and affect their family and surroundings.
The overdose couple expected a bumpy and not so pleasant ambulance ride to the hospital but ended up getting, not only a ride, but an extremely valuable therapy session! Someone please give that paramedic an award for being paramedic of the century!

Ya it's toxic, it's right in front of you, where's your guys's compassion and understanding? Maybe they don't have the right people to teach them, maybe they don't got parents, or went through trauma, none of you understand or either you lack wisdom. Learn true compassion, don't limit what you know with narrow-minded comments.
That first case with the over dosers, the paramedic was amazing. "I'll never call someone stupid" I love that.

I agree its such a deadly and toxic relationship..But like they say, you attract who you are and they both have issues..So they are both toxic on their own and now theyre the perfect toxic couple..Its like they tried to pull a Romeo and Juliet move..Like, you die? I die with you..Some people with issues seem to romanticize that type of stuff..my first ex bf had similar issues..He cut on himself and he romanticized dying with his partner by suicide..its sick..
@@Lewdacris916 how do you know that’s why they did it? They could’ve just been suicidal. Suicidal people do not think clearly, obviously… how do you know they were trying to hurt them? Also we don’t know anything about their relationship so don’t judge. And this Denise lady up aboves comment is very inappropriate being that they claim to “work mental health” (whatever that means) maybe they mean they work at a mental health clinic which could mean they are a janitor or cook. She shouldn’t be commenting on things like this online if she is a medical professional. None of us know anything about their relationship other than what we saw. I wish people wouldn’t judge and come to conclusions before knowing anything. It hurts people. While I think Denise meant well it is still inappropriate to comment on someone’s mental health status. It kind of sounds like she is saying the suicide attempt was fake and only to hurt the other. And whether they get help separately or alone it doesn’t matter. In fact for couple counseling to work you need both, one on one time and then couples therapy. Although if your significant other is unwilling to go then going by yourself is better than nothing although it can lead to narcissism and believing that the other person is the whole problem because they can tell the therapist whatever they want and make themselves look perfect.

The first couple, the paramedic was outstanding. He treated her like a loving father...not judging and giving great advice. He treated them w respect and dignity. Wish I saw this more often.
After having a disagreement with his gf he drinks harmful substances. Please! My ex husband use to use suicide as a way to keep me from leaving when he did wrong. The relationship was so toxic, I just called his bluff and left. That was too much stress for me. This couple been together 6 months and they BOTH trying to OD because they made. I would have ran from that relationship.
Congratulations for not letting him fool you ♥ this is such toxic and harmful behavior! I hope you could left without any damage physically as well as mentally.

You did right for yourself, sure, but you're still going to kill people with that attitude. Nothing to be happy about. Just because someone suffers from mental health problems and is a burden to his friends and family doesn't mean they deserve to die. That sounds like something someone with a borderline personality disorder or such would do, for them their distress is very real and they're not doing it out of malice, suicide is very common.

She said he was threatening her with killing himself when she wanted to leave the relationship. THAT'S a difference. Also she has to take care of herself first place. Sometimes we forget that we have to be okay ourself to help others.
We don't know how she felt in this relationship and we don't know if ex-husband was actually depressed and suicidal.

@@oOBloodyAllyOo Like I said, she did right for herself but I wouldn't be particularly happy if I did something like that. Someone is possibly suffering from severe mental health problems, that behavior is not normal at all, and all the comments here are primarily concerned about anything but his life. That's just sad. All this talk about bluffing and so on, it's not a game of poker we're talking about here. Professional help should be involved. It's a huge red flag when people threaten to kill themselves, just because he didn't do it this time doesn't mean he was "bluffing". From my experience people like him will eventually end up doing it unless somebody intervenes.
@@veriduo everyone is in charge of their own life, that's all I say now. I was in a position in which I tried to help some persons around me and with the time it made me sick. You can't help people if you can't take care of yourself. Being aware of what you can endure without endanger your own health is self-care. Getting out of such a situation is self-care and not selfish.
Also I met a lot of people who really threaten with self-harm or suicide to be cruel and manipulating. You may have made other experiences than me or OP.
But I won't discuss this any further with you as it doesn't really make sense. Telling OP she could kill someone with her action of self-care is cruel. YOU yourself can do a lot of harm with such a comment. This is the last I will say but I'll keep an eye out for you and I you say something similar to 'you could kill people like this' I will report you.
The level of sensitivity of these people is incredible and touching. The way he got in touch and earned that little girl's trust is amazing. She will probably remember him as the nice friendly guy who helped her that day.
EMT folk are great people.
They are on camera. Doesn’t mean it’s always roses and rainbows.

I am really sorry for elderly people who live alone and whose families don't visit them, and on top of that they have some type of a condition. 😢
That's my life. The only time at the moment (we'll see how it goes in another 10 years) that sucks is when someone asks for who to contact in case of emergency. I say "nobody" and they say "Not a relative? Sibling? Cousin?" I'm like "You're not really making me feel any better."
It’s a very lonely life ! No one to talk to or eat a meal with ! Add health problems on being alone it’s not living it’s just sad ! Thankful but no calls or no visits no emails no text ! Not just days it’s years no one 😢

Yeah. But they will show up the minute the person dies. To claim whatever they can. Or if one of spouse dies the family will put them in a senior home and take over their properties and money.

When I was around 14 I slammed my head into a glass door at school and knocked myself out (was running to class lol) when I woke up my nose was bleeding and a teacher took me too the nurse. This P.E teacher came and did a ‘concussion’ assessment and deemed me fine. So I was about to go to class but instead I put my head in my arms and fell asleep on the table for 3 hours. The other p.e teacher found me later and asked who gave me the concussion assessment and then freaked out cus the guy who gave it to me wasn’t qualified 😂 He said it was too late now but he would have sent me to hostbital.

Paramedics deserve so much more than what the current government is giving them. These people are heroes.
I guarantee the first guy was exaggerating his symptoms in order to make his gf worried so she’d take him back. He probably had no idea the paramedics were coming, and now he looks stupid because he has to commit to this fake performance.

My Dad has had chronic heart trouble for about 40 yrs. He is alive at 82 because of the superior heart care he has received in Ottawa for the last 40 yrs. He has had several incidents and has had several surgeries. Somehow he just keeps ticking!

I wish the USA paramedics and hospitals would give laughing gas for pain.
It's a lot safer than opiates.
I believe most US hospitals will offer laughing gas for patients who are recovering drug addicts, or for anyone if they ask for it. I know some paramedics carry it on their rigs but it varies by region.
It doesnt have effect on every person.
I have tried it once and it didnt helped me at all.. I was just looking like " why did you give me this?"

I overdosed at fifteen and was called a stupid kid. I didn't want to be around to be abused and to be hurt by my family. I couldn't say why I did it and they weren't being nice. The nurses weren't nice either. The hospital treated me like I was doing this for attention and I was just in pain mentally.
I wish they handled me better than they did. I am scared of hospitals for anything that is mental health related now.

I'm sorry for what you went through. I understand. Only the past few years have they really started understanding better how to deal with those with depression, etc. I wound up in care of psychologist who sexually molested me.....just as bad. Don't give up...there are good people out there and resources for help now. I'll pray for you to find peace. 🤗

I worked on an ambulance for 6 years, here in US..... this is calm.
I know that this is a show where traumatic things happen but I find the scenery, the narrator's voice, the demeanor of the paramedics and even the music so calming. It really makes me want to move to wherever this was filmed.

In the United States, an ambulance response costs thousands of dollars, and must be billed to someone. The ambulance service would absolutely determine who is responsible for any hoax.
Plus they still respond regardless if it's a hoax or not

Where I live in Canada it is a couple hundred. Thankfully it’s covered by our taxes.
@@yalondapickrel2058 I had an ambulance ride that was literally just taking me from one hospital to another that was billed to us for $2000. So yes, thousands. But go on and try to be incorrect.
Quite envious of how professional and considerate these paramedics were in terms of responding to the knee dislocation! My experience (USA, OK) had been far from adequate. Took a fall in my driveway and twisted. I suffered a complete dislocation of my right kneecap and fractured it upon landing. The second worst pain I've ever experienced - and I'd had scoliosis surgery just a few years prior. I sat there for a time in agony whilst those with me struggled to contact a medical emergency service. Once they'd arrived I'd managed to push it back into place myself. Nothing assists better than adrenaline. Those 'tending' to my wounds seemed to doubt that I'd truly dislocated my knee, even going so far as to tell me that dislocating my knee wouldn't, or shouldn't, hurt. Not wanting to deal with the crew and assuming I could tend to it on my own, in time, I decided to go back into my house. The only assistance I received was being lifted onto my feet, so I hobbled back in myself. Turned out I'd torn ligaments and required surgery to prevent future dislocation that would reoccur. I'd give anything to have the experience presented here. Kudos to the compassion and humanity shown!
When I dislocated my knee when I was 14 the ambulance crew treated me well and so did the doctor in the ER. He took a chance and put it back in place even before my parents got there to say go ahead with treatment.

I have been an ER dr for awhile now, and I so appreciate what these first responders do. They deserve much more thanks than they get. I would like to have the city let them follow us in the ER with pay to learn more about identifying conditions that are life threatening when on the surface, the patient may not appear that critical. Triage is probably the most important part of saving lives. Lack of expertise in this area led to Princess Diana’s death.
Pretty sure paramedics are specifically trained to recognize subtle signs and symptoms of a potentially critical trauma patient and to take appropriate precautions for high risk mechanisms even when those signs and symptoms may not be present. They do spend a lot of time in the ER... you know.. being as they bring in the vast majority of the patients you are talking about? There are good paramedics and bad paramedics, just like doctors or nurses or whichever profession. Referencing one event that happened 25 years ago is hardly a reflection of the current state of paramedicine so I don't what the point is of even bringing that up. I suspect princess Diana died because she suffered massive blunt force trauma, not because of poor triage.
@@foskco87 I was an ER dr 25 years ago and the way Diana was treated at the scene instead of the OR was definitely NOT the way trauma patients were treated in the field even in the 80’s. I have witnessed several missteps by EMT and paramedics as well as other health care personnel. And it is not true that spending time in the ER dropping off patients will help them learn as much as a formal course in emergency triage in the ER setting. I was the medical advisor for paramedics in a large city for many years, so I know what the training lacks. I was merely commenting on a good option to help fill in the gaps. I don’t want another 6 yr old DOA because a squat member did not recognize meningitis. What is your purpose for commenting?
@@kkdoc7864 I appreciate the thanks, but we are taught about looking for stuff that isn’t present. Altered mental statuses, MVA’s where the patient states they were okay, but their sibling was killed in the passenger seat. The mechanism of injuries just because you’re fine one minute doesn’t mean you’ll be okay 1 hour from now. I spent over 200 hours in the Emergency room during clinical hours and the physicians not once wanted to assist in my Learning experience. It was the nurses. Hospitals need to learn to communicate with ems better than they do. If we call and bring in a stemi, we don’t need to be looked at like we’re idiots when we get there. I am aware of life threatening issues that can kill someone just because they haven’t shown symptoms yet, but the signs are there. I’ve called and got orders to restrain people because of this very reason. I know most doctors think so, but we’re not all idiotic. At our local hospital, the ER doc asked me to intubate because she didn’t know how. There’s a lot of doctors that need more special training.

In fact docs should be required to ride along. with medics. When you hang out together a bind and an understanding of how much you guys have to know would develop.

These responders deliver excellent services. They operate so well together and make patients feel as comfortable as possible. This is an excellent series.
I like the paramedic's little shoulder wiggle when he said that gluing the child's wound would sting.
So many people relate EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters to cops and I love these videos showing that most of us aren’t the same. We’re not there to get you in trouble, we’re there to help you with zero judgment
Where were these lovely people when I was in England? The young female doctor I saw was a mean, uncaring, bully. The chemist was wonderful, however. Very kind, and gave me the antibiotics I needed.

oxygen is considered a medication and requires a prescription, at least where i'm from. maybe that's why? i'm not sure if the same rules apply in England

Bless the way these crews work words and action into saving lives. It is why I went to work in my profession. And Young Couples - WATCH this and learn - 13 years from then - you could have 2 kids and you still break up. Be gentle on each other.
Reality was I was the guy - who had sole custody - and 22 year from then - I have a 27yo and a 34 yo, who live doing thier lives. Be easy on your partner - cause sometimes Fatal just happens out of the Blue.
These medics are amazing. ❤ It seems that they really love their job and have compassion for the people they help.
I like the humanity of the paramedic, he didn't call them stupid he met them on a human level, we would benefit as a species if more people treated others like that, I don't judge anyone who struggles with suicide thoughts or attempts...they are people who are in pain, maybe what we all need is a little understanding and a hug

26:19 The story told by the paramedic about a surgeon and a car mechanic... I would only partly agree with it. Without people like the car mechanics, engineers, nurses, hospital porters, the janitors,... the surgeons would not even have the opportunity in the first place to get their education and training, and definitely would not be able to carry out any surgeries. If we pay people according to the true values they contribute to the societies, many jobs would pay more, and many would pay much less too.
I thought the same thing! So glad I'm not alone. I have cousins who are high up there doctors and I dont even think they deserve the money without nurses to help document and actually care about the patient if they are a snob they'd be nothing
Its nurses that deserve a raise in my opinion. Nurses, CNAs, care takers, hospice workers, paramedics... the list. Goes on and On. Point being it's not just surgeons who are amazing. It's the people with "lower" titles that deserve higher wages and titles honestly

When I broke my ankle I was never offered or even given pain relief. I was also not offered a wheelchair when I went to a walk-in for a part of my lower back spasming. I'd rather have a broken ankle than having to walk with frequent spinal spasming.
Because it was probably an EMT that was treating you and not a medic. EMT’s are very very very limited on what treatment they can give. That’s why they’re “basic life support” EMS is stretched thin and we try to keep medics at our station for serious emergencies. I don’t doubt you was in pain, but it’s not critical. No offense.
I feel sorry for the mother who spilled hot tea on herself she looks wore out and in need of a break from all those kids. Hopefully she has at least one family member that may help out every now and then. God bless their beautiful little family.

I wish overdose and suicide attempts were treated just as seriously as a broken leg because if you get to this point there is something very very wrong ..if you go back 1hundred years it's crazy how different things were treated yet we still have leaps and bounds to go to understand why the people do what they do but it's just as vital as a heart attack .. death is death ..there are no levels and I pray one day mental health is taken just as seriously!!
I think they are treated seriously (people get involuntarily held) but the way mental hospitals are run need to change. Many have said their stay at those places made them even more depressed/suicidal
@@kiona1816 I can understand the thought that it may be treated as the same extreme experience,but as someone who has experienced both sides of the extreme sides I can for sure say it's not treated even close ..not just my personal experience..it's been many others while I was recovering in a place for those who have tried to exit this world .. I'm now 44 years old and I can tell you with all honestly the mental health in this country needs work for sure

I apologize if I downplayed the issue as I didn’t mean to. I only meant that police will take people involuntarily but from what you said it’s a bad experience :(
God bless all the consummate medical professionals we repeatedly see on this channel...... Their genuine respect, kindness & sensitivity to their patient's needs always touches my heart...
I feel for that mum at the end. I just knocked half a pot of boiling water on my hand and foot two days ago. Similar level of damage, no blisters, and it was definitely an 8. Now that it's healing, it's so itchy!! Keeping it moist with Vaseline and wrapped in gauze so it won't dry out too much. I did nearly call an ambulance but thankfully my mum works in healthcare and was only 10 minutes away.

This is so sad. I just got out of the hospital after a intentional overdose and I’m so lucky to be alive. I instantly regretted it the minute I took the pills and suffered horrible effects hours later. Suicide is never ever the answer.
I am very glad that there are amazing and nice people in the world. Every medical responders and doctors and nurses are all amazing.
We need paramedics like this here in the US

The hoax caller should have faced some consequence; at the least a stern talking-to.
should be fined to cover the resources and time wasted when it could have been used helping someone who actually needed it

I can’t help but crack up at some of the calls these paramedics get! I realize they don’t have to pay for the ambulance service so maybe I’d call too for simpler things than I would here in the USA, but wow. Seems like there must be a better way to triage these calls. 🤷🏻♀️

I'm not from the UK, but in my country we have universal healthcare, and once I was home alone at 14 doing crafts and I cut my finger with the papel scalper and my first aid courses just vanished and I after 15 minutes I was still bleeding and I was feeling sick so I called an ambulance for a cut in my finger, and the paramedics said the where glad that I had called them because I was feeling sick and I was alone and I could have faint. So it can seen as something insignificant but think that here not everyone has a car (in my family we don't use cars) so the only option is an ambulance. And is not free, we pay taxes.
These shouldn't be ambulance calls, its a bit nuts. These are doctor visits. In the US, you'd better be dying, unconscious or in a car wreck hanging upside down in your vehicle to be considered an emergency!!!
Re. The first couple overdose. What a waste of resources, the paramedic was wonderful.
Both of those young people are in a very dangerous relationship and need to separate and have serious counselling.
The overdose couple is in a very toxic, co-dependent relationships and they need to go to rehab separately during then go their separate ways.
In my work as an ER nurse, I always am kind with my patients and I never judge. I tell them I’m not the police and am not going to call the police on them. I just need to know what they took so we can help the symptoms. Most of the time they will then open up to me. Addiction needs to be seen as a disease. It’s not a choice. No one chooses to be an addict. It’s just so sad with how addicts r treated by paramedics, police, nurses and doctors. More would ask for help if they were treated with respect and kindness.
Thank you for being a kind and understanding nurse. Addiction runs in my family. I suffer from polysubstance addiction and I recently got sober from alcohol. I haven’t kicked everything yet, but I’m getting there. Thankfully my doctor was very kind and understanding when I came in with withdrawals needing Librium. We need more people like you in this world ❤️

If you go out in the sun to do garden work, always check the UV index on your phone or online. A rating of 3, 4 or 5 is moderate and an acceptable level for sun exposure without lotions. That's usually around 3pm onwards.
It also depends where you live too

No, they don't. You _might_ get the Fire Department and an EMS supervisory vehicle, but police? Not unless you live in a dangerous area and the Ambulance crew can't be guaranteed their personal safety.

Fighting and trying to self harm over something so silly…. Makes me ticked because I fight everyday to just breathe and live. And people take so much for granted. I’ve been suicidal… I’ve attempted… but I’m grown and I’ve learned, and I just hope these two learn from this. This was not worth it. Not at all
Idk man I really think that you shouldn’t judge about what you have seen in the video. There’s probably a lot more behind it than just sole arguments that they’ve had.

To not give them the satisfaction of having their 15 minutes of fame I assume. Here in the us it's illegal to make a false call so I imagine it to be the same case in the uk
Is it not obvious why? They didnt actually get eyes on him.... he refused service at the point of arrival hence he did not consent to being filmed and did not sign a waiver form which Im almost positive all these patients would have agreed to and signed at some point off camera. All to do with liability. Plus he is a frequent flyer and was publicly deemed a burden to the system so they probably dont want to reveal his identity for his safety.
